Diving Tackle Dark Elf Team?

Next month I'm playing in a league at my school.

I don't know how long the league will be (number of games), but I'm pretty sure it will be above 20 (if I mange to qualify for the finals at least). I'm playing a darkelf team and consider myself a decent coach, but recently I had a somewhat peculiar idea.

A darkelf team where everyone but the witches & thrower take diving tackle as their first skill (and then regular skills after). If the team manages this feat they will mostly negate movement for the other teams, but perhaps they will be bashed into oblivion by stronger teams because they have no block or dodge on the linemen?

Has anyone ever tried anything like this with a non-stunty team or know of someone who has?

My team: (TR 100)
1 Witch
1 Blitzer
1 Thrower
8 Line
1 RR
9 FF

I've had a couple of linemen with that skill (2nd or 3rd) in a team of DE's (i think block is a better initial skill) If you place them strategically in a defensive lineup (especially if they also have tackle) they can be pretty damn annoying.

To be all honest diving tackle on your linemen isn't such a great idea for the first skill. Most team don't want to dodge away from elves. They want to smash them into the ground. Dodging even with the dodge skill is risky business. So much safer to throw a 2 dice block. Heck if I was wood elves I would rather hit you than get out of the way for the most part.

Dodge is the safest skill on a line elf. Block is the next best bet. DE can start with 4 guys with block so block isn't as important as dodge. Guard on doubles without question. Never know when double are going to be rolled again. So a couple get dodge, a couple get block and hope you roll doubles for guard.

I wouldn't even bother with a thrower. You NEED more than 1 rr. Drop the thrower, buy a rr and get another blitzer although the witch is a good choice for variety. First purchase is apoth then fill out your blitzers.

So something like

2 blitzers
9 lineelfs
2 rr's
7 ff

Just my opinion.

A Witch is definately a good player. In your first game, without an apoth, your witch will die or at least get a niggling. Sure, you might have luck. But using your witch like a witch without help from blitzers and without an apoth.... You really cry for getting her hurt. So forget about the witch, forget about the thrower. Go like Urb said or even go with only 1blitzer, 10linos and 9ff in order to get that apoth really soon.

agreed. witch elves are great players, but they need support from other good players, which can't be found on a tr100 team. start 1bl 10li 2rr, 9ff, and 10k towards your apoth.

much better long term team. also, starting with a thrower takes spp away from your line elves. they should be throwing the passes early on, spread them around so no matter who gets the mvp, they will get a skill most games. you build a much more solid all around team that way.

and forget about diving tackle all over too. a few guys with it as 2nd skill (after blk) is fine. a whole team is essentially begging to be hit all the time. who's dodging away from dark elves that much when they can just hit them?

Thanks for the advice people, I guess the whole diving tackle thing was a bad idea :), but I allready tried the usual DE approach (pretty successfully) and wanted to try something new.

To the drawingboard!

As a 3rd or 4th skill DT is a really good idea (the Blodge, Side step, DT combo is great) - its just that Block & Dodge are much more useful skills in the short term.

if IF you want to make a DT team get block at least first. That will keep you upright more to use it in the first place. But above correct block - then dodge best with DT as 3rd skill. Some players wil have it in 10 games, good enough i would say

I'd say sidestep is more important than dodge for those people you really want to have DT on. If hit, sidestep allows them to still threaten on twice as many results as dodge.
Remains to get them into position, but I'm primarily thinking the widezone "must blitz to get past" guys.

In DE-Lineman your first skill should be Block or Dodge. Diving Tackle kann save the day in 1 games in 10 but Block and Dodge will help you in all the 10 games, so go the "normal" way and be on the save side ;)

Just 1 thing mor 2 say: Kick the Thrower and take a second RR, that will help you a lot in the games, Thrower is not that important ;)
