Nurgle tactics vs Dwarves

Post by Leniyuhl »

Im currently playing a small tourney and my next match is dwarves. If I win the game I am in good shape for the semis, so this is an important match.
Only thing is im new at the game and really dont know how do react to an all block team.
My roster includes 1 beast, 2 rotters and 9 beastmen. 2 RRs
His roster is 1 runner, 2 blitzers, 2 trollslayers and 6 long beards, 2 RRs
one of his trollslayers got mighty blow and one of my my beastmen got +ma...
So how should I play it? I realize I have to use my advantage in speed, but im hardly a passing team.

I would utillize your speed advantage, and the 2 stronger players to maximize the amount of blocks I took. What am I crazy he has block!!!!! OK so I am a bit blood thirsty, and I like to hit as much as possible with any team I have.

I would make sure I got at least 4-5 blocks setup to my advantage and use one beastman to utilize a horn blitz per turn. This way you are putting dwarves on their duff where a long beard has to spend 3/4 of his movement just standing up into a situation where if you setup a decent block once you will be at an advantage. This being said if you are unable to setup a 2db situation with your players then you should only risk 1db if you are desperate, or have completed all important blocks and other actions before hand. Also when I play against dwarves I usually stick the boot in <foul> at least once just to let him know I mean business and so that he stands up all available players so I can knock them back down. If you put enough dwarven but on the gorund, you will be able to use your +mv beastie to run circles around them and almost be quite elf like. I was incredibly scared of dwarves when I first started playing again, and after playing against the dwarves I see that if you maximize their weakness which is their low MV, you can outmaneuver them for 2db almost every turn when they are starting out. When they become the guard heavy juggernaughts that they eventually become in all leagues, then you end up playing the I hope I can setup a situation where I'm not getting 3db against me :).

As for scoring, against dwarves I wouldn't recommend caging per se, and instead trying to make him stack the line to combat a perceived threat. If you win kickoff, stack the line and setup 2db chains out of the gate. What I mean by a 2db chain is that you set 2 men on the outside of his line, and with them set this way you will be able to start from one end, and as long as you get at least a push, you will be able to push his players away and have a ready assist for a second 2db. With rotters you can actually just put the rotters on the outside of the dwarven line as "ends" and use them to start your series of blocks. I am assuming that you only have the + mv beastman, but if you have a rotter with block this would be the person to start the chain with. The key is to make sure you have all your blocks setup, and to not follow if you get a push and want an assist. This works to yuour advantage in two ways, one it makes him move back to the line to be able to block, or makes him blitz wasting it for the turn. This also saves you the chace of being blocked however many people you push away.

When kicking off, 3 on the line and since dwarves are such a slow team, prepare for either a cage or some risk play for them to score. I usually put my 3 on the line then put my other players a space or two back in a stagered line supporting eachother designed to make it as hard as I can to get through and or to get assists on blitzes without forcing him to put a player directly on the side line. If he puts a player directly on the side line I will do my darndest to push that player into the crowd, and get my free injury roll. With the dwarves you do not have to worry about the "reverses" you have to worry about with elves and other fast teams. Basically if the dwarves start steam rolling down one side they are going to either try to break through on that side, or they will try a very risky passing play, by having one or two elligble receivers on the other side of the pitch which can be covered easily by placing 2-3 beastmen in proximity to them. In our league our dwarven playuer regularly complete Long Bombs utillizing his uncanny luck. You can even sacrifice players who would normally be slowing down the cage by leaving only 3-4 players stopping the cage which may cause him tor break the down field stomp and allow you a chance to utillize your speed to take the ball from whoever is carrying it.

Also I recomend a small sacrifice to Nurgle, Maybe pulling the wings off of a dozen flies or some other small gesture to bless your dice. If you outroll your opponent you have 90% of the battle won. I hope this novella helps you. I'm sure people will point out millions of flaws in my strategy, but this is my experience with dwarves playing them with a pro elf team, and you have strenght and av advantage over pro elves. Gluck. h

Thanx for the tips, I didnt have the position to use that many of them. However, I did loose my fear for the blocking menaces and proceded to win the game 1-0, with some help from both nuffle and nurgle.
