A DE thrower or not?

Do I need a thrower on a starting Dark Elf team?

Previous threads suggest that the preferred line up is:

2 Blitzers
9 Linemen
2 re-roll
7 Fan factor

So is this list weaker?

2 Blitzers
1 Thrower
8 Linemen
2 re-roll
5 Fan factor

Any thoughts?

I would go without the thrower. So you can spread out the passes and get developed lineman quite easy. I think DE only throw quick passes. You can buy your thrower when the rest of your lineman is quite developed.

High FF is important. You want to make money to get players. So no thrower to begin with. Get him later.

(and they only have pass! it's the pick up they always seem to fail! )

Is this for a leageu? if so, leave the thrower at home. You have AG4 all over the team, even whit the trower you'll be playing a "short throwing/running" game most of the time, imo the trower is'nt worth buying in a starting team. Keep him out and spread the SSP out, get your linemen some skill's and buy the blitzers, apo, witch elves and a couple of reroll's before you buy a thrower.

While I agree completely, (throw with line-elves and take the FF for income purposes)....

I must chuckle at this conversation is completelty lost on the folks arguing against the Dump off Dark Elf Runner being proposed in the Vault...

(But If he has dump off then he can't be pass, accurate, strong arm).... They forget that the Dark Elves do pass mostly in the quick band.

Playing Dark Elves in a league, I'd never leave home without my Apothecary.

2 Blitzers
1 Thrower
7 Linemen

1 Apothecary

2 Rerolls

FF 7

Only 10 players to begin with, this might cost you some points in the first games, but having an Apothecary will keep your players alive.

But if you create a new team you must have 11 to 16 players in your squad, see page 17 just above team rerolls and FF

Quote: in addition, your team must have atleast 11 players and may not have more than 16.

agree with previous posters about leaving out the thrower, you don't need it, and it actually hurts your team because he gets all the completion spp instead of spreading it out to the line elves.

also the coach who suggested a 10 elf lineup with apoth would be a nice idea, if only it were actually LEGAL. gotta start with at least 11.

i therefore propose THIS roster:

1 bl
10 li
2 rr
9 ff
10k treas

you need the ff more than a 2nd blitzer. the 9 ff will help you afford your players faster, and you already have 10k towards the apoth. it may sound weak, but i've won plenty of games with it.

11 is sacred.

He's right. Must start with 11.

I am playing in a league with mandatory high fan factor - 6-7 at the lowest! So with this in mind, would you still recommend dropping a blitzer for a lineman and ff?

Even more so. A 9FF, combined with a high ff from all your opponents, will really help rake in the cash because you'll have high gates. And you can feel more secure knowing no-one else has tubed their FF for an uber-starting 11 roster, so your line elf heavy roster will still be able to hang with them on the field.

Additionally, one of the other reasons to have a high FF is to beat your opponents in all those kickoff event rolls. it's not AS important as it used to be, with pitch invasion being weaker, but it's still a good idea. those extra rerolls for cheering fans and such are nice. So to do that reliably, you have to have more FF than your opponent.

Wise counsel there, looks like I will have to ammend my roster again!

I do occasionally get accused of that from time to time. Glad to have helped.
