Advice for a new Tourney team for 2006

Post by dwarfcoach »

Hi,

Well I'm venturing to Holland with Norse in February and I have a question:

What do you think is better, a Thrower and only 1 Fan Factor or just a Lineman but 3 Fan Factor?

I am finally beginning to see the difference in matches when the kick off roll always goes in the favour of one team, I'm just wondering if there is enough of a difference between having 1 FF or 3? As far as I can remember (bit of a dodgy premise to base tactics on I know :P ) teams I've considered as hacing a high FF in tourneys I've been to this year had at least 4 or more and so I'm wondering if it's worth bumping the FF to 3 at the expense of a Thrower...?

Cheers Jon, I can always rely on your incisive comments... :P

I know they don't have Sure Hands and also the passing game is not really one that Norse teams lean towards. All I'm really wondering is if the FF3 and Lineman vrs the FF1 and Thrower is a reasonable trade off? If you have a Thrower there is always the chance that you could pull off a sneaky bit of throwing, not something that you would really want to burn a re-roll on if it didn't work but something that circumstances may call for. Just wondering....

From the BJB: "If you have to Pass, you've already lost"

Ask yourself how many times you expect to pick up the lose-o-meter versus how many kick offs you expect to use FF in. In there you will find the answer you seek.

I disagree with the statement that only losers throw the ball (though it does take some skill to throw without running the risk of screwing yourself), but I think that paying 20k extra for a Thrower is a ripoff if it doesn't get you Sure Hands, especially if you don't have any catchers above MA6. In 3rd ed or LRB4, the FF is a no-brainer. In PBBL, I'm convinced that FF is worthless unless you pay way too much for it, and it doesn't matter which way you waste your money.
