Double on a High elf thrower with ag 5

another thrower with accurate

I have some doubt between strong arm, nerves of steel or even Guard.
Any (other) ideas?

With Ag 5, Strong Arm and Accurate at the next skill he will throw long bombs on 2+. Even without Accurate long bombs are 3+ Either accurate or a fumble :puke:

Nerves of Steel is interesting as you have a player that can dodge to the ball, pick it up and throw it in multiple tackle zones with a reasonable chance of success. This is a better option for aggressive defence, but the first gives you an almost unstoppable offense. So long as the back field is flooded with receivers that elf will get the ball to them!

Guard would be a waste.

Off the top of my head, I'd say either NOS or Strong Arm, and between the two I'd take Strong Arm.

AG5 and Strong Arm lets you contemplate long bombs without feeling like you're taking a big risk, and it's JUST LIKE NOS if you're in only one enemy tackle zone. You're really contemplating the possibility of being able to throw from 2 or more TZs without penalty vs. the possibility of being able to throw Long Bombs reliably.

Hmm... I'm half-tempted to say you'd probably do better ignoring the doubles and taking Sure Hands or Dodge; any circumstance where NOS would be good, I'd probably be really glad for Sure Hands and Dodge as well, and there are lots of circumstances where SH and Dodge are good, but NOS is worthless. I'd probably end up with Strong Arm, but I'm not convinced it's the best option: SH might be a better idea.

I agree with Al that Guard is a bad idea. Better than useless, but on a Thrower, it's only going to be intermittently valuable and it'll encourage your Thrower to do things Throwers shouldn't be doing.

Then again, both sure hands and dodge can be replicated with a team reroll whereas NoS opens up completely new options.
Get NoS.

I wouldnt risk leaving that AG5/NoS thrower in tackle zones because if you dont make a TD after his pass he will be probable kicked to death even more if he first try to pick up the ball in multi TZ....

I would prefer having AG5, Strong arm (first next skill accurate) thrower and use him only in offence for some fancy passing - after all it is his role

Strong Arm followed by Sure hands, then Block/Safe throw/Dodge/Dump off depending on your playing style.

With SA you throw quick,short and long passes with 2+ already, so I think you won't need accurate. Sure hands and dodge would make him an ultimate ball retriever, while dump off would make him a secure ball carrier (tossing 3+ pass with rr if attacked by 2 opposing players).

I'm pretty sure i'd beat myself up deciding between NoS and Strong Arm. Not sure which I'd go with...others (matt and al) have pretty much laid out the differences, and both raise good points.

My personal style would probably lead more toward Nerves of Steel, just because I don't throw too many super-long passes. But then, that's why I tend towards dark elves over high too...that and the figs are 100x better.

I thought about this for a bit. If it were me, I'd ignore the doubles roll and do one of the following:

A) Accurate. Yeah, Strong Arm is generally a better choice for a Thrower when you can get it, because it's hard to come by. But frankly, you're not going to want SA and Accurate on an AG5 Thrower, because that's redundant (unless you plan on throwing an awful lot of long bombs). Accurate is better than SA if and only if you're throwing a QP from 2 or more tackle zones. Now, you can step onto the ball in 2 TZs and throw a QP like you had NoS, and you can throw bombs with confidence. I would absolutely take Accurate or SA over NOS: in fact, as much as I like NOS, I think its ability is much diminished on an AG5+ player.

B) Sure Hands. Frankly, the ability to throw LBs on a 3 with a free RR is overrated. I mean, once in awhile, you'll be really glad you could (or for the NOS-like power of Accurate or SA at AG5), but frankly, if you're a good coach, you can stick to long and shorter passes almost all of the time. However, no matter how good or bad a coach you are, you'll have to pick up the ball a lot more than you'll have to throw a bomb or chuck from a tackle zone, and whenever you do chuck from 2 or more TZs, you almost always have to pick up in 2 or more TZs also. Of course, SH is less useful if you have a RR available, but it does let you put off hard stuff (like stepping into multiple TZs to get the ball and make a pass) until end of turn without worrying if you'll have to spend the re-roll on a 2d block or something before you get to it.

I'd go with NOS, and the reasoning is very simple: Elves don't have problems with their offense.

Seriously, do you ever have a really hard time scoring as elves? No, of course not. The problem is getting the ball back after a quick score, and in that case NOS can be exceptionally helpful.

Grab Sure hands and maybe leap and pro and you've got a great strong safety who can fly into a scrum to pluck out the ball in even the worst circumstances...

I like NOS on defensive throwers
AG5 - NOS - leap (safe throw-sure hands) an excellent defense player.
Sure he might get fouled after extracting the ball, so what ?

For the reason given above, I'd probably go for NoS to make it an aggressive thrower.
