Defense with Pro Elves, help needed

As explained in
another thread I've decided to take Pro Elves to the Dungeonbowl, but I need advice on defense. They don't have the armor to bash and they are not fast enough for the fast teams. Of course, you can try the "step away" defense against bashers but this can't be everything. You can use your sidesteppers to harass the ballcarrier but this is also very dangerous.
But I think it is very difficult against teams like Woodelves who are faster than you and have about the same level of "bashiness".
So any advice is very welcome, but please keep in mind that I'm mainly interested in low TR experience.

Sounds like you have the general idea. Pin important players with blitzers, less important ones with linemans. Concentrate on making him make a mistake, then capitalize with a good blitz or ball recovery a la elf. Definitely harder defending against WEs, but he's just gotta roll a 1 a couple of times to give you a good chance.

I'd be careful about pinning anybody with pro elves. I would concentrate only on pinning guys that are immediate scoring threats (like next turn) and stay a square away from anyone else.
I'm in a vault league and I used a 10 roll to give a lineelf an AV upgrade, turning him into my pinner. He's performed admirably so far.

I wouldn't worry too much about that since it's low TR. Also he's talking about defending WEs.
In general, I pin a few guys a turn with linos and play the line defense you outlined. If an opportunity presents itself or he's about to score, I commit all of my guys to pinning / in your face defense (less likely to get assists --> dreaded 1 die blocks for him) and hope for the slip up.

against low TR woodies, defend like a big net, with 3 or 4 lines of players.
the key to a good elf defence is getting at least one man within scoring range, so after youve taken out their ball carrier, you can pick it up, hand-off, pass, and score! also skills like diving tackle(on linemen or blitzers) and pass block or dump off for catchers are very useful....
thats pretty much it...make sure he cant cage up his ball carrier with good player distribution and dont worry about a weak front line...chances are hell have one too!

The lower cost of your linemen should give you 2 RRs more than WE, which makes you a lot more bashy. If you can force the match into lots of blocking and some dodging every turn, these RRs can make a huge difference.
