Double in tourney on Pro Elves

The next tournament I will take my Pro Elves to allows for a double after game 3.
I can't really decide on what to take and I thought maybe you could help me out.
I think it comes down to the following choices
1) Guard on a Blitzer (Guard and Sidestep is a nice combo and I could really use guard with the elves)
2) Guard on a line elf (to keep the blitzer free for another skill)
3) Mighty Blow on a Blitzer to remove key players
4) Dauntless on a blitzer to help against Mummies, Saurus and Black Orcs. Undead cages really are a problem for me
5) Frenzy to keep the sides more open
6) Something else I've forgot

Guard on a Blitzer.

I luckily got one before the first game at Pearlies last year, and he was an excellent player for me.

I'd think you should do pretty well on offense, so offensively geared skills and traits are out.

Then on to defensive skills we go.

Dauntless? Hmm, all it will do is enable you to blitz some higher ST player, but did you really want to do that? Usually the biggest problem is a cage with guarders, as the low MA high ST cages are relatively easy to bring out of position.

One guy with Frenzy is also not a very big threat to most cages, and clever players can avoid a blitz on a critical player with well positioned players in the area.

Guard is certainly nice, and is worth considering, wheter to put it on a line elf or a blitzer depends on your style, but with Block/Sidestep the blitzer should win out.

Mighty Blow... useless on an Elf team usually. You rarely want to get into the attrition fight. Suck up the losses and score 2 more TD's.

Leader is a possibility not mentioned, and can be very rewarding, as it enables you to play a bit more freely, taking those risks once in a while that in the end succeed on a 4+ anyway, also less turnovers means less blocks against, so less players carried off. This does depend on the rest of your team, and the TR, but usually extra rerolls don't hurt Elves.

My conclusion: Guard on a blitzer or Leader on a Liner.

I will already be playing with at least 3 rerolls, possibly 4, so Leader is not high on my priority list.

A Sidestep/Block/Guard player is always a good choice I think ;)

Guard on a blitzer wins for me. The skill allows you to take on the bashers a bit more and break cages more easily. The blitzers speed allows him to get into spaces to use it to more effect and his armour 8 and block mean you're more likely to keep him on the pitch to use him.

+ with good use of sidestep he can end up assisting in a lot more offensive blocks than your opponent will expect or want.

Pro-Elf blitzers rock! 8)

how about dump off on a catcher?

If a Catcher is in a situation where he needs Dump Off, he's probably getting the ball handed to him when he shouldn't. The only time a Catcher should be handling the ball is when he's about to run in for a TD. Granted, a Catcher might end up with the ball in a defensive situation, but it should be rare enough that Dump Off isn't really going to be worth it.

I voted guard on a lino ("don't put all your eggs in 1 basket") and only then realized it's pro elves, not high elves so the +AV and Side Step make it a very good skill on a blitzer. That blitzer will be the #1 target though, but maybe you can make good use of that.
Certainly don't waste it on offensive skills!!!!

Hmm, I would want dodge and tackle on the 2 blitzers as first skills, so guard on them would be out of the question (assuming giving multiple skills to the same player is not allowed)

I would like dump-off on the catcher, especially since it is a tournament. This gives you the option to play a longer, slower drive with comparitive safety, and essentially makes sure you don't get into the standard 2-1 "grind for 14 turns" basher win.

In league play I would not make this choice, since you tend to allow a dump-off catcher to get blitzed more than a normal one, hence they die. In a tourney, injuries are reset anyway, so who cares?

Guard on a lino would be my second choice.

At Dungeonbowl the 2 skills on my Blitzers where Tackle and Diving Tackle and I loved this combination. One to hunt catchers, the other to tag pesky players. Getting them together on the opponent's important dodgers was a blast.
So giving Guard to the blitzer will rob me of half that combination. But if I give Guard to a lino I will have the Tackle/Diving Tackle combo for only the last 2 games as my first skill is kick and the second tackle. So diving tackle could only be my 4th skill.
And Guard on the blitzers is really great. I will probably take it.

I' d take frenzy. It opens the sidelines more for your game...

Frenzy is nice to keep the sidelines open, but as others have said and I have to agree, offense is not my problem. Also, If the opponent cages, I want to get him to deploy on the sides because a cage is much easier to stop when it is rolling via the widezones as I need fewer elves to close it off. If I have Frenzy than my opponent will make it a much bigger effort to roll down the middle.

And what about leader?

Elves could never have enough RR.

Or you change your starting lineup by changing one RR into a lineelf. And after game 3 you'll choose leader.
So you'll have one more player and that isn't bad especially when playing with AV 7 teams....
