Hi Guys,
I’m taking my Ogres to tourney this weekend. Obviously I know I will hardly set the world on fire with an ogre team, but would be cool to maybe win the odd match. (At least maybe have a shout at most cas award). My question is skills, its standard, 1 skill (no double) before each game, making 6 in total.
Do you recommend Guard or Break tackle? Or do you reckon its better giving skills to the gobos?
I was thinking
Game 1 Break Tackle on Ogre
Game 2 Guard on Ogre
Game 3 Sure feet on gobo
Game 4 Guard on Ogre
Game 5 Break tackle on Ogre
Game 6 Guard on Ogre
Any ideas?

I shouldn't give guard, I guess you'll be the master in ST anyway... Besides the break tackle, I'd focus the skills on the gobbos, making sure they are able to score!

yep. I guess that that i have the muscle, but as i dont have any re rolls, i was thinking of skills that will affect the dice more. a few guard to maximise 3 dice blocks to avoid the dreaded both downs and skulls and sure feet for the little fellas, if they can be "escorted" in to the other players half, and then make a dash for it reasonsbly secure.
Hmmmmmm, I just dont know anymore.
Any more thoughts chaps?

If you're going for pure cas, multiple block on the ogres is devastating -- a couple of snotlings to give you that extra assist, and suddenly they're smashing two players a turn, each. It's terrifying (as long as you avoid those skulls).

Hi,
I very much agree with your skill-choices. And I do think that Guard is a very good skill for this team: it's so much easier to get 3-dice-blocks and furthermore helps you protect the Gobos, esp. if they are carrying the ball.
As an alternative Skill for the Goblin you can take "Catch" as it will improve your odds for desperate last-turn TTM-touchdowns and you can hand-off the ball to this Gobo if you cage gets stuck.
Cheers

P.S. And it is possible to whin with them, in my last tourney I went 1Win 2Draws 1Loss with my Ogre team "Maneater United"

And as for tactics:
ALWAYS aim for those three-dice-blocks! It will save you a lot of turnovers (and you will cause more damage too). And sometimes it's better not to move an Ogre just to be sure that you won't lose his Tackle zone.

My choice is similar to:
- Break Tackle
- Diving Tackle
- Side Step
- Guard
- Diving Tackle
The 6th one will be Break Tackle again (but not so sure).
I tested this development at 4 tourneys including the BB GT las year and it works pretty well. Also annoys your opponent cause your defensive play is strong enough with the goblins. But remember protect them...they are the key. The record was 2/2/2 at the GT and in the spanis touneys one 2/0/2, second 2/1/2 and the last and worst touney with them 0/1/5 but this last one was at TR 110...and i realized that my roster wasnt good enough with 3 RR.
I writed a little compendium in spanish...somebody is translating it but not already done.
Anyway...good luck

Also, my roster is:
5 Ogres
6 Gobbos
2 FF
2 RR

Ahh, I'm going silly and taking 8 Ogres 3 Gobos and NO rerolls.

Break Tackle is certainly interesting, as it would allow an Ogre to suddenly break off from a block and try to toss a goblin for a score. Gives you one turn TTM scores as a possibility, at least, even if the odds aren't all that great.
I can't see taking a normal skill on a Goblin from the start as being helpful. Sure Feet or Sprint would be the only remote possibilities (again to assist with TTM scoring).
Multiple Block feels best to me if you're going for bashing scores. As mentioned before, with a couple Goblins stuntying into position you could certainly move a lot of meat over the course of a cage grind.

Sorry for this but its totally stupid.
You are not going to be able to defence anyone..except, maybe, khemri and dwarves. Also, you are gonna desperate about the bone-head rolls...and thats not fun...its just frustating...
Anyway...good luck and tell us your record

I dunno. I was thinking about this last weekend at the tourney. I generally burned both RRs I took in the first 2 turns or I didn't use them at all. Either way I pretty much played the whole match with no RRs. What can I buy for that extra 120k (for Orcs)

Thanks Snew,
That was my thoughts,
There are soooooo many things you would want to re roll with Ogres that they would be gone straight away.
I would rather have an extra str 5 mighty blow player getting in the way.
(not that I am in anyway trying to justify this as a viable roster )
