Thrower in DE team + My team dev

hello,
I've been thinking about how important is to purchase a thrower in a dark elf team.
I know that I probably need to max blitzers, witch elves and buy some TRRs too before buying a thro, but I'm not sure if it isn't a luxury to buy him. He costs 90k and has only Pass skill. I understand, that he has also passing skill allowance, but still.

btw. this is my team on fummbl (ranked):

I am pretty new to coaching elves, so any advise even on this team dev is welcome. Right now I plan to buy 4th blitzer and 3rd TRR and then it all depends on the surviving ability of my team I think

thx, Juggernaut

You definitely want to buy a thrower, EVENTUALLY. Just not right away. I would suggest getting your blitzers and witch elves first.

The reason you want a thrower is because you can dedicate him to ball retrieval, and then he can make a quick or short pass to a blitzer or witch or whoever to start the running play.

Then later you have the option, once he gets built up, of playing the more wood elfy-style of the long passing game if you feel like it.

thx wesley,
but what does make him so good at ball retrieval? You mean first skill I will give him (Sure Hands) - right?

seeing as all the elves have AG 4, just get a linelf and give it the pass skill on a double: the economic way of doing things.

yes, and then the pass skill means he can do more than just hand off with good reliability. the idea is that you dedicate his skill path to be adept to sitting deep and getting the ball up front.

like i said, it's not vital to have, but it does improve your teams' efficiency.

as to the person that suggested pass on a line elf, they must roll a lot more doubles than me. i don't get nearly enough guard line elves to waste one to make a thrower, when i could just buy a thrower and make him a BETTER thrower.

Ahhh, ok - I thought you meant by "ball retrieval" retrieving ball from opponents tackle zones in defense when popped or so :D
OK, now I understand what you meant.
thx again

oh hehehe i guess i could see how i could very easily be mis-interpreted as such.

sorry i'll be more clear next time. i was picturing the standard situation when your team receives a kickoff and you have to send someone to go get it.

A Thrower is not really needed in a Dark Elf Team from the Start. When your Team has grown up a Thrower can be a good thing to improve your passing game. His first skill should be Accurat, just 2 make the other Team fear the long Pass, thats all. Your target in the first games should always be to pass with your Lineman to get some extra SPP. More then all the other Elf-Teams you need skilled Lineman! So buy him as your 14-15 Player and try not to steal all SPP from the rest of the Team. NEVER, NEVER use a double from a Lineman for Pass-Skill, GUARD is so much more important, trust me ;)

i agree with all of that, EXCEPT the first skill. Sure hands is much more important than accurate. Your thrower will be the one picking up the ball on (nearly) every offensive drive. why wouldn't you get yourself a reroll for that? sure accurate is nice, definitely a good 2nd skill...but you already have ag4 and the pass reroll, and he should generally be making quick/short passes early on anyway.

hi all - thx for replies. Now I have some clue about the thrower issue :D

I played a match yesterday and even that I lost (3-2) my team got another 3 skills and just enough money for a new blizer 8) . The question is what to give em?
My Team:
WE +ST, Block (18SPP)
Blitzer Dodge (17SPP) + SKILL - Tackle???
3 Blitzers with 0SPP
Lineman (1SPP)
Lineman +MA (21SPP) + DOUBLE - Guard???
Lineman Block (6SPP) (M)
Lineman Guard (8SPP)
Lineman Kick (6SPP)
Lineman Block (18SPP) + SKILL - Dodge???
Lineman Block (6SPP) -av, n
zero treasury, 2RRs, 9FF, Apo

I am pretty sure about Tackle on the blitzer as I need some and on the Blodge player it will be great for now I think. The double on that +MA lino made me hasitate about the Guard - should I give it to him? the other lino will be probably dodger as I dont have many RRs and so I will have more of them on those nasty dodges and he will hopefully stay healthy.

some suggestions?
thx, Juggernaut

Tackle on the Blitzer and Guard on the Lineman seems good to me, because of the need on both. Dodge on the Lineman also ok. You should try to make at least 1 Pass with 2 of your Blitzers in the next game and if possible a TD with the 3rd one. Try to spread out your SPP, Your Lineman look well skilled already - good! :D
The next skills you need: another Tackle on a Blitzer! More Guard if possible and a Dauntless. I see two +1 MA in your Team. If roll a double 5 take the Double not the +1 MA on the Lineman. On a Blitzer or Witch +1 Ma can be ok but not on a Lino.

I would buy one more Player and then go for the RR you will need at least 13 Players.

ST4 WE is a "wet dream" of mine you lucky one

thx for reply Aksho - it is very interesting. I took those skills.
Aksho wrote:Try to spread out your SPP
I usually try to give SPPs to players that can advance after the game thats why my blitzers dont have completions - and I need them on the LoS. But I will try, for sure, to score with them
Aksho wrote:The next skills you need: another Tackle on a Blitzer! More Guard if possible and a Dauntless.
well - I think I need dodge and SS on them more then Tackle. 1 or 2 tacklers should be enough for now I think. The other will be lino, probably

I have only 1 +MA in team and it was on 6+4 roll. I discussed about it with a friend a bit, but then I said to him that I dont want upset Nuffle, so I accepted his gift - a 5th blitzer
Aksho wrote:I would buy one more Player and then go for the RR you will need at least 13 Players.
yeah, for sure - who would you buy now? 2nd witch elf, lino or thrower? It will probably depend on the money I will have - but who would you prefer now?

Do you place Blitzers on the LOS? I would always use the Linos for that!

I put my blitzers on the LOS but they get side step asap. It's fantastic when the opponent doesn't throw pows and you march into their half on their turn!

But with Sidestep (and Dodge preferably) its much harder to take em down. Still, I usually use my blitzers' higher movement to let them do their stuff somewhere else, and make the Linos pay for being just a Lino!
