Taking Apart the G3 De-Offense

Working off of the excellent FranceBloodBowl Defensive Playmaker: http://www.francebloodbowl.com/defplaymaker.php

And came up with a variation of the 3-4-4 for my Gobbos. I'm blessed/cursed with a Fanatic so, for the opening drive (defense), I have a strong-ish front line.

*****T*F*T***** Frontline
****G*****G****
*G**G*****G**G*
*G***********G*

The two gobbos in the second line are on the diagonal shoulders of the two trolls (controllers for really stupid) and all the other Goblins are one behind the others (the asterisks * are empty squares).

If on offense, the same setup, 'cept two gobbos drop back to receive:

*****T*F*T***** Frontline
****G*****G****
*G***********G*
*G***********G*
***************
***************
***************
***************
***************
****G*****G****
***************
***************
*************** Endzone

As a tactical exercise, how would you (the opposing coach) expose and exploit the weaknesses of this setup?

Depends on the team you are playing but if my opponent puts a big guy on the Los then he better expect him to be knocked down and gang fouled first turn. In my opinion its better to put 3 goblins spread across the los then have the trolls 4 spaces back , one at either side to cover the flanks and middle. I can then move my trolls to bolster and pushback the offensive drive.

For the record the last time I played a guy who put his minotaur on the los he was niggled by end of turn1 then again by end of turn 3 with no apo to save him this time.

Just thinking, but that could be an effective Orc Defence/Offence, 2 BOB and the Troll on LOS, then 2 BOB, and 2 Blitzers in the next wave, a Kick Lino/Thrower in the centre and that would be a mare to get through, its also a great looking defence to counter a Blitz

ll try it out and see how it works and report any weaknesses!

I would try to knock over one troll, and blitz the other's "controller". If I can knock the troll over, I will push him back not to be in base contact with his controller, and put a load of TZs on that controller to add to the pressure. The way to play gobbos is just to target the Trolls IMO.

Sound defence though, and every defence has weaknesses.

Similar to Naz whatever side I want to move the ball to i'll blitz the controler gobbo on that side. Then advance players up that widezone to mark the gobbos there, making them make a lot of dodges or take the 2die against blocks. I'd probably leave the other troll alone and let him try and run into the play, hoping to use his low speed to my advantage.

It is a good defensive setup though, even if everything went well for me all you would need is for your goblins to dodge and that is what they do best, and get a couple of good blocks. After stalling my advance for a turn or two the Trolls are going to be over there to start cracking some skulls.

As an offensive setup I think it is weaker, with your trolls so far into the center of the pitch you can only use their strenght to punch a hole through the center of the field. Personnely the last place I want to be running a bunch of goblins is through the middle of the other team.

Just make sure that on a quick snap I can block both controllers :D

I would agree with Nazgit, take the trolls out of the equation. Seperate the gobos from each, so they have a harder time moving around to assist each other. Then eliminate a zone and block off the rest

Small Gloat! - playing against gobbos I had managed to clear the field of the gobbos, only the 2 trolls left!

I found this to be VERY effective, I was playing Vamps and simply bit the gobs till they went away.
