Damn Wood Elves

OK, I'm a reasonably new BB Coach, I've got 20 odd games on the board to date. I play an LRB 5 Norse team, Ulfwerener's, Snow Troll, etc.
Our league is a pretty bashy one, but there are two wood elf teams, one of which I'm the only coach that has managed to beat him in the entire league (3 games for 2 wins and a tie).
I came up against the other wood elf coach recently and was thinking with my record against the wood elfs I got this in the bag. So of course I got whopped pretty good.
I didn't score a point, which was largely due to some very poor rolling on my part, nothing you can do about that. But I was really struggling to restrict the Wood Elves from scoring, and I was hoping to get some insight from the old hands on the board.
The problem was this, once having made a hole in LoS, the Wood Elves would run 2 and 3 guys downfield to wait as receviers. I play a deep defence against elves but even so I was finding that I could tie up 1 and 2 of these receivers fairly well, but generally had to rely on a single tagger to try and pin down the last one of them. Inevitably he would then receive the ball and dodge away with impunity and run the ball in.
Is there anything one can do to help restrict this style of play. The only thing I thought of was trying to skill someone up with Passblock, but that could a be a little ways off yet.
The teams invovled are in the 170+ TR bracket.
Cheers.

They score once - you hold the ball and score twice. Easy

If you have the choice, don't go after the potential catchers/receivers: beat the shit out of the thrower, or make it impossible for him to move downfield so he can get within passing range of the receivers.

Against an averagely rolling Wood Elf, there is no stopping the score. Simple as that really.
So the two options are:
1. Pray that he rolls lots of 1's.
2. (As mentioned before) Let him score once, and
safely walk in the score in turn 8. This should get you a 2-1 win.
Option 2 seems to be the better option of the two
Things NOT to do include: Fail to pick up the ball, fail a hand-off and fail to protect your ball properly.
You can't really protect 100% against a Leap, so if you do need to make a 'risky' roll, or have a 'risky' placement of players, make sure he can't easily retrieve the ball after the leap. (i.e. no leaping in, and then 3+ dodging out).

Wood elves can only be stopped via long-term attrition. While it is really hard to stop an even remotely lucky wood elf team in a single game, if the entire league inflicts enough casualties on them, the eventually run out of players ... if the woodies start their games with 2 or 3 players less, you have a chance to beat them.

Not in LRB5 you can't - Journeymen ie free Line Players to make your team up to 11

Yeah, yeah, point taken.

Maybe I should just get used to the new rules ... *wanders off to read LRB 5.0*

I've never seen a Wood Elf team that even needed 11 players to humiliate me.
They said it already. Let him score once. Beat the crap out of him while he's doing that. Receive the ball. Safely walk it downfield and beat the crap out of him while doing so.
whether things are going your way or not, make sure you're thorwing all your blocks against him.

And if you're looking for skills to annoy him, a lot of tackle, diving tackle, sure hands on key players, and pass block might help. That is if they didn't change for LRB5. Dunno about the new strength skills that might help.

Yes, Tackle. both for defensive stoppages and offensive blitzing block dice modification.
Yes Sure hands stops that pesky strip ball thing and improves your chances of picking up the ball.
Yes Diving Tackle (you can get it on your Runners.)
Mighty Blow. Piling On. (take out the elves.)
Guard near ball carrier to ensure that any blocks to your ball carrier will be two dice YOUR choice.
Kick to the elves. Try to prevent the score, but make them pay for it with as much damage as possible. Also force them to kick to you by choosing between death and destruciton or the td if you can't stop it.
Take the kick in the 1st half grind and pummel (always protect the ball and your carrrier) down to the 1-1 score at the end of the 1st half.
2nd half he kick to you, take the kick, cage and maul your way down for a turn 8 score. If you've removed his OTS player(s) then his turn 8 should be no good. If he goes 2-2 in it, then crush the remaining elves in OT.
Cheers.
