YOU should tell me what you think of my LRB5 Dark Elf Roster
I didn’t see any LRB5 Dark Elf rosters set for league play up here so I’m posting mine.
3 x Blitzers
2 x Runners
1 x Assassin
5 x Line Elves
2 Re-rolls
5 Fan Factor (Free)
The goal with this team is to stay diverse. The plan is to keep my Assassin in the backfield to provide some coverage and quick Stabbing/KO power on any touchdown-minded fools. The three Blitzers will take care of the front line while the two runners will focus on taking that football and/or supporting the Assassin.
I’m not fully 110% committed to it yet so any feedback will be taken under careful consideration.
Ed: Yeah yeah, fine I'll leave it at 5 Line Elves.
...Fascists.

I make that 1070k.
Depends on the length of your league. I can't vote until I know how long your league is. And until you make the roster 1000k. Knowing which opponents you will be facing is also important. If there are lots of bash/high AV teams then I would not start with an Assassin. Against bash, he becomes a fragile, expensive, lineman.
My league is 10 games. And potentially another 10 games after that (if we don't change teams). And I'll be facing Skaven, Lizardmen, Amazon and Nurgle. The Assassin will be useful against GRs, Skinks and those annoying Amazon. Not so useful against Nurgle.
I went with your lineup minus a line elf. If the league was guaranteed to be more than 10 games, I may have picked less positionals to gain that 3rd reroll, and get the positionals later.

He gets 5 fan factor for free, not counted toward the 1,000,000. I think he just has 1 too many line-elves there.
I like the roster. Two runners sticking close together will help.
I personally like using one Witch Elf and getting her Block then Strip Ball. She makes a great defensive player to hang in the backfield.

The Assassin is to iffy. He's a great freebie hit but I wouldn't waste a Blitz to make a Stab attack and I would throw the Block instead of the Stab if I were trying to prevent a TD. What he is good for is preventing people from following up after Blocks if you have him in the right places. A Witch is much better in the backfield.
I just started a 5 line, 3 blitzer, 2 runner, 1 assassin, 2 RR, 0 FF team in a league and it's also the roster I took to the Chaos Cup. It works but you're hoping for some lucky games early on.
I used to think 5 FF for free was a cool idea, now I think it's pretty lame but if that's how you guys do it, take it.
I'd consider, if I was doing it again,
2 Blitzer
1 Witch
1 Runner
7 Line
2 RR
1 AC
1 Cheerleader

Ok. I have never come across the FF for free bit before? fair do.
I responded to the post on the lines of Snew in that I have also got Dark Elves in a 10 game season. We are 5 games in and im top of the division.
when i looked at the team on paper i thought Assassins were likely to be good until a bit more thought made me realise that no, they arent all that good at all and I would personally leave them out. (as i did).
At 100, we have to account for our own FF so I guess in your league its 3 blitzers, 2 runners, 6 lineman and rrs. Blitzers still remain the key to DEs I have found and I have never once used dump off.
I went for a WE as an early purchase and in her first game a TD, CAS and Pass got her block so that was very handy and after 5 games 3 guard is useful. Not sure if this link will work.......

I used Dump Off 3 times in the tourney, my first 2 skills were NoS on the Runners, and it worked brilliantly. Probably a waste of skills on my team though. You're right. It's one of those right-place-at-the-right-time things. When you are in that right place though, it's a lot of fun for you and very frustrating for your opponent.

Snew, when we played at Chaos Cup your dump off's were perfect. Everytime I went to blitz into your ball carrier, your other runner was nearby to catch that nerves of steel quick pass. It was a good tactic using them both together.Snew wrote:I used Dump Off 3 times in the tourney, my first 2 skills were NoS on the Runners, and it worked brilliantly. It's a suggested optional league rule in the latest LRB.Lycos wrote:Ok. I have never come across the FF for free bit before? fair do.

Are you using the optional rule for this, or just not realised this rule is no longer the default?iaaaan wrote:5 Fan Factor (Free)

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I think your roster is OK...I would however make a few comments.
First, what others have said about the assassin is spot on. Don't blitz with them expecting to stab and do well. Take the free stabs you are given during the flow of the game, but don't be wasting your blitz on them. They aren't nearly reliable enough.
Now, having said that, I did blitz and successfully stab a norse runner with block and dodge in my last game. But it was very much a last resort. Going into a game with that plan is not a recipe for success.
Next, taking 2 runners is OK, but don't overuse them. Don't have them throwing all your passes early on. You want every player on your team to have a completion after a few games, that way whoever gets the mvp gets a skill...that's how you build a good balanced team. Having all the completions concentrated amongst only 2 players is not how you build a team for a league.
For that reason, I wouldn't start with them, but that's just because I know I would always put them back to recieve kickoffs, and therefore make passes.
Now, if I were doing a TR100 dark elf team with free 5ff, I'd do this:
4blitzers 40
7line 49
2rr
10k treasury
as others have said, the fewer av8 guys you start with the better. build up this core, get some block line elves (and maybe one or two with guard if you're real lucky), then get some runners, witches, and an assassin. I can't ever see the need for more than one assassin.

The assassin is only nice if your opponent adapts his play to it, for some reason a lot of coaches are afraid of it. He has some uses (eg marking prone players and being a nuisance with shadow) but I wouldn't take him from the start. I certainly wouldn't take more then 1 in my team
Runners. In my experience they are, well, obsolete for DE when starting out. With 11 players and the runner (and assassin) being AV 7 with no protective skills it will be targeted. I also think Dump Off is an overrated skill. When you have to use it it usualy means you're in deep sh*t anyway, I'd rather have skills skills to prevent ending up in such situations. My runner has been able to use dump off just 1 time in 10 games, it's that situational.
Start out with Wesley's roster (line and blitzers), work towards a third re-roll and the witches first, then start adding the other positionals.
