Bull Centaur development

How do you develop a Bull Centaur blitzer? block/BT is obvious, but what then? Frenzy, juggernaut, SF, tackle, dauntless, MB are all great, but obviously you can't take them all. Dodge on first double is also a nobrainer, but what if you get another double? Sidstep, DT, JU, or just take a normal skill? My other Bull will be my ballcarrier, with block/BT/SH. Is catch worth it (after Dodge) or is Sidestep the better choice? Also I already got one blodging Bull, so another question is who gets more value from dodge, the blitzer or the ballcarrier?

Not that I've got much experience with them (yet), but on my new LRB5 team I intend to make one a blitzing ball winner-Break Tackle, Wrestle, Strip Ball, Tackle and the other a blitzing CAS machine-Block, Mighty Blow, Frenzy, Juggernaut/Tackle.
You've got a great ball carrier there with your blodger-If I roll any doubles, then my skill choices may change, but I intend to score with my hobos as much as possible on offence (I know a 4+ with reroll is theoretically a 75% success, but I just don't trust probabilities....and I've got a AG4 Hobo now and as he isn't an elf, he shouldn't roll ANY snake eyes....).
I'm hoping my bulls will score enough on defence/with touchbacks to keep their SPPs coming.
Whatever you choose from the skills you listed, you'll have a great player, a developed bull has gotta be one of the best, if not the best player in the game. I would say it's a shame you can't have more than 2, but that would just be too unfair....

Be glad you get the two. If I remember correctly, in 3ed the only bull centuar you could get was Hthark the Unstopable

But you could have 4 of him...

I don't like scoring with hobgoblins as they tend to die really fast. I got 3 dead hobs in 5 matches, so I only score with them if I got no other choice or it'll give them a skillroll. I really try to score with my blockers though it often is very difficult. My second bull got +ma last game, so I still got no BT bull.

I have to agree.
Hobbos are fun little guys, but they are, after all, the squishiest members of the lineup and will remind you of that at the most inopportune moment if you rely on them too heavily.
I actually find it hard to get SPPs on the Hobbos, other than the 1 SPP for a quick pass here and there, because they are terribly fragile. For the amount of effort it takes to effectively protect a hobbo running down the field, you could almost just take a dwarf.

Block and Break Tackle. Alternate which you take first on your Bulls, or BT first on both.
Then Strip Ball on the first to get a third skill, followed by MB. It keeps the SPPs ticking over (you don't to risk the 4+ catches or pickups so much at high TRs, so SPPs from TDs dry up a bit).
MB third on the other one.

I found the same thing with the hobbos dying all the time. I just cage up with dwarves and the bulls and use my sure hands hobbo for a ball carrier and then when safe hand the ball to one of the BC for the td. Whats weird is my favorite guy on the team is a hobbo. Unfortunately he has 5 of the teams first 8 MVPs. And I had my best BC die. It is kind of cool having a Mighty Blow, Block, Pro hobbo though. No one expects to see a hobbo with mighty blow playing safety......

I suppose I haven't had any dead hobos yet, so aren't worried about them "hogging" SPPs and then dying. If the hand-off was definitely safe, then I'd go for it, but I'd want to be at least a TD up by then and that doesn't happen all that often...

...and he DEFINITELY lived up to his moniker too.
However, I seem to remember most of the CD teams I played against back then to do 3 Htharks and 1 Blunderbuss guy. It opened up options for them. Either way, bloody viscious.

Break Tackle used as many times as you wanted each turn on ST6 ...

i seem to remember that break tackle, even in 3rd ed, was once per turn only per player. it's been a while though, so i could be wrong...

*opens death zone*
Break Tackle (strength skill)
The player may use his strength instead of his Agility when making a Dodge roll. For example, a player with Strength 4 and Agility 2 would count as having an agility of 4 when making any Dodge rolls
(italics added for emphasis)
Seems it was any and all dodges, although it may have been changed for the redone skinny version with the one rulebook, I don't have a copy of that.

I still rate him as a Star Player now, it's also why I rate Ramtut. Who's a slower more bashy version of him.
In fact I just love the Break Tackle Star Players.

These days break tackle is a once per turn deal and for a good reason. Imagine the deathroller with unlimited usage of break tackle.
Block, break tackle on the bc's are pretty much the given. As the 3rd skill I like to develop one bc as a ball carrier, so sure hands and the other as a blitzer, so tackle. Doubles, dodge. Just too good on a str4 guy imo.
Dwarves get gaurd and MB. Hobs.. some people use these guys to score, I use them as fodder so whatever skills is needed for the type of league you are playing in.
