I find the following is pretty simply to start playing with:

4 blitzers
2 catchers
1 thrower
5 lineman
3 RR
2 FF
1 Assistant Coach

Gives you alot of positionals, but still gives you a well rounded team. Use the blitzers to block for the catchers, and you will kick butt.

Wouldn't argue too much with the last post, with LRB 5 I would probably go 1FF, 1AC and 1 cheerleader, but its just nitpicking.

Your biggest question is whether to risk an Ogre or not, I like the 4 blitzer line up as a starting point in a league, might risk the Ogre in a 1.1 tourney.

I've just started (another) Human team, which is exactly as posted by Dwarfrunner. I like it.

Human teams can be a very rewarding team to play, and for me it's THE team!

Good luck, and welcome to the hobby.

Yes, humans are a great choice for a new player. Whats cool about the human roster is you can take it in whatever direction you want. If you want to bash, you can bash. If you want to play the finesse passing game, you can do that too. Another option too is going with 11 players, and getting a 4th RR while they are still cheap. Then taking the extra money after the 4th RR (the money used on FF, AC, and CL), and putting in the bank and buying a doc after the first game. Good luck with your new team, and welcome to the hobby!!!!! 8)

Sorry to sound dumb (again  )

What is RR and FF? And why do you need a coach?

Thanks

RR is re-rolls, and FF is Fan Factor.

Assistant coaches and cheerleaders are much more useful during the kickoff table than before. And starting out, the kickoff tables can sway a game quite quickly

RR are Rerolls. You can reroll any failed roll except armor and injury.

FF is fan factor. Gives you a boost to try to win the Gate at the beginning of the match (and after can be used to win rerolls on Kick Off with cheering fans and Brillant coaching. Also used on throw a rock and other kick off's... quite usefull to have the crowd modifier!)

Assistant coach are used on Brillant coaching rolls.

You don't sound dumb

This looks rether sensible to me! You cannot beat 4 blitzers on the front line!
