Dark Elf TV 110 tournament roster / skill choices

Post by Jeremiah Kool »

Looking for some opinions on a Dark Elf TV 110 tourny roster. I want to try this one:

2 x Witch Elf
4 x Blitzer
Assassin
Runner
3 x Lineman
2 x RR
0 x FF

Four Blitzers and two Witch Elves on the pitch , can it get better than that? A regular third reroll, an apothecary or maybe even a 12th player are good, but I can´t resist this "all-star"-team.

Some tourneys allow for giving a skill before the first game, then I would take Leader on a Runner to gain that important (IMO) third reroll. Then the Witches both get Block. After that I´m not sure. Blitzers with Dodge are always useful. I´d also consider Tackle, Dauntless and Leap but find them weaker then Blodge. With Frenzy and Stab I may not need Tackle, for example. I dislike skills that you can´t use against every team. Of course, if you know your opponent before the matchl it might be a different story.

I thought the Assassin is worthless and one Cheerleader and one Assistant Coach would be better. Now I believe his presence alone can distract the opposing coach and that might change his gameplan. Against AV 7 players he can really shine.

Don't know if you get any "double" skills in your tournie. But if you do, Guard on Blitzers is very useful. MA7 and AG4 makes a very maneuverable and mobile assist.

the success of your roster depends largely (imo) on what sorts of skills you are allowed to take. if you can get block quickly on the witches, that'd be great. i personally think 2 of them without block, and no bench, is a very risky liability. 1 i'd do, especially if you can give her block before the first game.

other than that, i wouldn't take a runner. i know you said you could give him leader for the 3rd reroll...but upgrading a player and spending a precious tourney skill for a reroll is arguably no cheaper than just buying the 3rd reroll outright.

the assassin is likewise risky. i get your point about making your opponent nervous, and he can have that effect, sometimes. it is great against av7, but nigh worthless against the orcs, chaos, and so on. again, with no bench, it's high risk/low reward.

it's not as flashy as what you've suggested, but flashy doesn't always win either. i'd roll with this:

1 witch 11
4 blitzers 40
6 line 42
3 rr 15
with 2 points leftover for ff, ast coach, or cheerleader as you choose.

alternatively, if you were still set on a runner or assassin, you could use those two points to upgrade a line elf to that.

also, i'd recommend at least one blitzer with leap. it makes opponents very nervous, and can often tie up a lot more resources than he deserves because people try to plan for his leaping ability.

1 Witch
4 Blitzer
1 Runner
5 Lineman

3 RR

1 FF

First give Dodge to your Blitzers if you are allowed to. It's the strongest skill for the team, because you need the mobility.

@PubBowler: Unfortenately no doubles for skills. Then I´d take at least one Guard.

@wesleytj: The 3 RR/1xWitch/4xBlitzer roster is also on my mind because it has no weaknesses like the "flashy"-roster. I only lose the second witch and the team still looks great. Block on the Witch and then Dodge/Leap for Blitzers.

Skills are important and you only get a few for the tourny. If I take a Runner with Leader I can purchase another player that starts with three skills and is one skill away from Blodge. That looks like a great deal to me.

A Witch Elf without Block is risky, so Block as the first skill choice is the way to go. If I field two then both have it after/before the third game. Dodge still protects them and I hope to play them that they can´t be targeted that easily.

What I like about Runners in general is MA7. Dump Off I don´t care about and AV 7 isn´t good, though. I played one tournament with a Runner, that extra point of MA was sometimes very good (often no need to go for it like with MA6). He´s not terribly important to the team apart from a possible Leader skill but I like his speed.

The Assassin can be hit or miss. It´s probably better to play without him because of bad matchups.

Leap is great on a Blitzer, I agree.
