What to play and how to play them
Ok just picked up BB after a 8 year pause.
I'm going to play with three friends who will with a good chance choose the following teams;
1. Dwarves or Chaos
2. Undead or Khemri or Chaos
3. A beginner who can choose whatever.
As you see there is a good chance of me playing against 3 bashing teams. We will first only play a couple of matches and if it's still fun make it a longer league.
I always liked playing running teams before and was always the guy who had most CAS against me. I'm a bit tired of Woodies and Skaven but I'm totally open for ideas.
The teams I've espcially looked in to is;
Necro
High/Dark Elves
Vampire
But that doesn't say we must discuss them.
What should I play and how should I play them?

Well, first of all, welcome back!
Now to the subject:
As you are not new to the game, I guess it's a bit more difficult to give "advice" for the team to choose, so I would just point out that Necro can be an interesting mix of bashing and fast, (out run both dwarves and caos and still have some punch.
The Elves dont usually last that long in bashy leagues (they would be fine in you first "fun" games).
(I dont have much experience with vamps so I wont comment them.)
Cheers

Welcome back. I just started back after 10 years so compariable, and my favorite then was Dark Elves.
Now you 4 players are going to be the only players in the league?
If so, I suggest you all play more than just one team.
The Vamps, are great and bad at the same time.
The fact that you have declare what your going to do before you even touch the Vamp so your Blood Lust Roll can say, "Nope you wasted that Blitz, and now you have to go bite someone or leave the pitch." comes up way to often.
One counter to this was to start with 2 Vamps and the rest Thralls and lots (I mean lots) of rerolls.
Want something bashy but different, go Lizardmen.
But sgtspiff is right, Necro has a good mix, and them Werewolves with Claw will help a lot against them bashy high AVs.

Lizards are interesting but I see a huge problem in Skinks not allowed G skills (maybe to much?).
I've played a fair chair of matches with HE/DE teams and I like them but i'm not sure if I should go with them this time.
So I like the fact that necros have so much individuals that still can perform a lot of different tasks. Lizardmed is to static in that aspect as AG1 and ST2 makes saurus only fighting and skinks only running.
Can Necros really stand up against the bashers?
As we have the beginner, two teams can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning. One each first.

Chaos Dwarves would be a good choice too. They are very good at the running bash style of play. The only drawback they really have is they are one of the worst teams at ball handling at the beginning. So get a hobbo with Sure hands relatively early. Bull Centaurs are one of the best players in the game, but they need to be skilled up to be effective.
Welcome back to BB, and good luck!!!

Dont forget to advice the new player to get a bashy team too or else you may end up with a 3 players league in no time...sgtspiff wrote: As we have the beginner, two teams can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning. One each first.
As for the team starter, I'm about to try out this one (in some tournment style games-1 skill per game kinda thing):
3 Re-rolls
2 Flesh Golem
2 Whights
1 Werewolf
1 Ghoul
5 Zombies
It depends a lot on the way you like/want to play.
My objective is to have a couple of players to run/score (ghoul and werewolf) a defence that can take some hits (FG+ zombi) and the Whights as "handy-players" (either in defense or attack).

No, they're better than Dwarfs in most aspects of the game. They have enough AV9 blockers to hold most teams. 3 Superb Blitzers (2 of which are also great at scoring TDs) and wonderfully cheap linemen who just rock at fouling.sgtspiff wrote:I've always loved the Chaos Dwarves but never played them.
My concern is that they will be just a bad dwarf team in the beginning?
Most of all though, they have bags of style and better beards.

Re: What to play and how to play them
Necro might be an interesting choice versus your opponents. You get speed and "can opening" ability with the Werewolves and the rest of the team will buy you time to make plays against a bashing team.sgtspiff wrote: The teams I've espcially looked in to is;

I started a league with:
5 Zombies
2 Golems
2 Wights
2 Werewolves
2 RR (yeah, I know, but your guys are that good and I only ever lost one wight to an unlucky casualty and failed regen....) I spent all my monies on quickly building up to 4 RR....
2 FF
The rest of the first season was pure magic... 'cept for that one game... sheesh!!!
and that was the season closer after the season was statistically won....

Still leaning at Necros but last evening when I sat down and read the RB I found that the Orcs must be the best bashing team there is?
4 ST4 Black Orcs
1 ST5 Troll
4 ST3 Blitzers (with S skills)
And most importent... 2 throwers with sure hand and pass (often what bashing teams miss).
But sadly I just find them to slow to even figure out how to play them.
And as I think harder and harder about how to play I like the idea of Dark elves more and more (just because their Blitzers has the perfect statistics). The question is if DE can stand against bashers or will I fail on low armour?

Orcs are a great team if you're new to the game. But the throwers really aren't their strong point. Yeah they've got pass and sure hands but their stats suck (toooooo sloooooow) and the rest of the team doesn't have what it takes to act as reliable receivers (well goblins do, but keeping them alive is tough!) to consistently play a passing game.sgtspiff wrote:Still leaning at Necros but last evening when I sat down and read the RB I found that the Orcs must be the best bashing team there is?

Orcs usually only pass if theyre in a pickle.
Quite easy really, pick up ball, get lots of teammates around ball carrier and slowly run it downfield stomping on everything that gets in the way.But sadly I just find them to slow to even figure out how to play them.
Dark Elves can certainly stand up to bashers BUT you need to know what you're doing or your team will be beaten to a pulp. I wouldn't recommend it if you're starting out.And as I think harder and harder about how to play I like the idea of Dark elves more and more (just because their Blitzers has the perfect statistics). OK as we are an hour away from kick off a problem turned up.
One of my mates said he liked Necros and Norse best.
And as I'm the most experienced player I will let the others choose first. Sure we can play the same team all of us but that won't be as fun as four different teams.
So my question is now.
How do I beat Necros (what team) without loosing hard against two other bashing teams.
I like the stats of Norse but I can't really get the feeling for playing them. And there is a good chance that the beginner will pick Norse as it's a realitively easy team in the beginning of a league.
The last man will pick Dwarves.
So what team to beat Norse, Necro and Dwarves in a short league?
Ohh yes I need an aswer in top 30 min...

Choas Dwarf, be my first suggestion.
Khemri is a top one to.
Lizardmen have lots of bash in them.
Nurgle or Orc.
Ok that list all the basher with decent win ratios.
Khemri has high win ratio, but all you do there is make sure you mash everyone into a pulp. Might be discouraging to your mates.
I like the Choas Dwarf the most, but then maybe Orc, cause there is so much info on how to play them.
