ST 5 Dwarf Runner

Post by Joemanji »

I've just rolled double 6 for my Dwarf Runner's second improvement roll. His first roll was also +1 ST, so he now has ST 5 and still lots of room to develop! I have never had a +2 ST player, and I'd be interested to hear some opinions on the player:

- Would you have taken the second ST upgrade? Is he worth 180K?

- How would you develop him in the future? Block seems the obvious next choice, but what about after that?

- Would you use him as awesome ball carrier? Or use him on the line where the Dwarf team really benefits from some ST?

Cheers
Joe

Wow... a dwarf runner with higher ST is great; blocking you wont be ver easy (almost if he is well defended).

+2 ST i think is too much. It wont be usefull unless you are blocked by ST4 players (or yua are in a vulnerable place without others dwarfs).

This guy need block. I will leav+1st and put him block... and later, if you get another.. dodge.

I'd use him on the LOS, next to a ST5 MB, Claw, PO Chaos Warrior, who'se sttod next to a Guard Beastman. ;)

Congratulations :D !

I would of course take the 2nd +ST - how often does this happen? He is a legend in the making, generations of Bloodbowlers will be discussing his deeds and his place in the Hall of Fame  :D

For the next skill I'd give him Block, just to keep him alive longer as without it he's too easy to be put on the ground... And no, don't put him on line-duty, give him the ball, surrounded by a cage of Guarders and do what Dwarves do best - grind slowly down the field.

Cheers

Take the str and run. No way you turn down str. Block would be a next great skill unless you roll doubles. Then he would be one very expensive player, not that he isn't already.

I'd use the guy as a ball carrier until I was ready to score then hand off to whoever needs the spps. Personally I would keep him away from the LOS. He's be great for blitzing when you can find the extra assist to get 3 dice. I'd hate to see the guy prone at any time. Super foul material there.

Dwarves with a fast reliable big guy. Nice.

Good rolling sir!!!!! :D I think I would use him as a super blitzer. Take the plus ST, then take Block and Tackle next. Mighty Blow or Dodge on a doubles. If you have LB with guard already, he should be able to get 2-3 dice on any player he wants to hit. If you dont have a lot of guard already, a ST5 ball carrier would be sweet also. It wouldnt be the worst thing in the world if he was an SPP hog until 31 SPP where he could get his Block.

Then go Block, Kick Off Return, and something else on the other runner. Quite a potent combo.

I want one of those ST5 runners!!!!!! Can you come to Wisconsin and roll my skill rolls for me???????

I think I would have him play the runner roll on offense, but give him the skills to turnover the ball.
Block first, then Stripball, tackle etc.
ST 5 players holding the ball are always a pain, but when they are in a dwarf cage what can your opponent do but cry?

I suggest rolling an 11 next skill up for a 6/5/4/8 TS,Sure Hands ball hog :)

anyway, I have a similar player that I've developed like this:
Larry Longlegs Runner 6 4 3 8 Sure Hands, Thick Skull, +1 ST, Block, Fend, Tackle, Pro

I'd develop the str 5 one along the same lines.

Block
Tackle or Fend
Fend or Tackle
Pro or Strip Ball

Block is obvious next skill

Tackle, IMO, is better than strip ball for knocking the ball loose, but either is nice. Fend works really, really well when you use him as the ball carrier--even if you get knocked down, they can't follow up!

I just took the pro..probably should have taken strip ball in retrospect.

doubles = dodge

He's a great Running Back/Safety. Don't even think of putting him on the LOS..AV8 is a liability there.

Thanks chaps. Some good points. As several people pointed out, this guy's effectiveness might be more apparent on defensive drives than as a ball carrier. Looking forward to using him. :)
