New player, Human team

I’m thinking of starting up a blood bowl team. I’ve played a few times under the previous living rulebook using someone else’s models. I was thinking of buying the 2005 human team and one of the ogres models, giving me a good selection of models. I would be starting at 1 million gold and was thinking the following:
Ogre
4 Blitzers
6 Linemen
4 Re-rolls
I would then add in a thrower, then an apothecary, then some catchers. I figured that a lot of re-rolls would be good for me. The box only comes with 6 linemen so I can’t trade out a re-roll for a 12th player. Should I drop a blitzer and a lineman for a thrower and a catcher? Then I would also be able to drop a re-roll to get the lineman back and have 12 players. Too many thing to consider. I’m not completely attached to anything so any suggestions are welcome. How long would it take under the current rules to get an ogre if I don’t start with one and it’s the first thing I get? Also, if someone could link me to some tactical articles for humans or blood bowl in general it would be much a appreciated. Thanks in advance.

standard questions in such posts - how long is it planned to run and what are the other teams out there?

Initial comments - Humans strength is their versatility, they can run, block, pick-up, pass and catch. They aren't the best at any of these, but they can do all of these with reasonable chances of success. So the main comment is that having no throwers or catchers limits your tactical options drastically. You don't have the benefit of reliable players to pick up, pass or catch which limits you to blocking and running. A game that is fine against agility teams, but will cost you against strength teams. I would suggest adding in two catchers and at least one thrower, dropping to 3 re-rolls and 3 blitzers should cover the cost and make the team more versatile. First buys are an apothecary, the 4th blitzer and second thrower.

true that, humas own due to the vestality...
and you dont wonna miss the sure hands, pass dude...thats just a great pair of skills to start with...
i whould drop down to 2 blitzers maybe, and get the rerolls that you misss...
you should atleast start with 4 rerolls and a sure hands pass fella´, to have some ball handling...

Personally I think 3 is enough for humans to start with - they have skill re-rolls for ball handling and enough Block to ensure that critical blocks are relatively safe. Team re-rolls are only likely to be used on failed lino blocks, and blitzer ball-handling or dodging. With three re-rolls, sensible play and average luck you will quite often finish a half with a re-roll or two. They also only cost 10k more than a blitzer once the season starts so I'm not sure of the economy of dropping to two blitzers just to start with 4 re-rolls.

I don't know what all of the other teams are right now. I'm hoping to get a few of my other friends to start blood bowl so we have more teams. I know there is a choas team and a high elf team already. I'm hoping this league will last a very long time. Is this better:
Ogre
3 Blitzers
2 Throwers
2 Catchers
3 Linemen
3 Re-rolls
10k gold

i looks great...
rigth about the skill rerolls...sure hands and so on...
but in very long leagues, i whould start off with 4 rerolls, if possible...

This is a sound line-up, played that many many times. I totally agree with the previous posters, humans must rely on positional players as much as possible.

but whouldnt you start with 4 rerolls in very long leagues with humans?
i allways find the rerolls to be very expensive in game, so getting as many as possible at start up has allways payed off...
youll have a "weak" start up, but in the long run you save ALOT of money...(when starting with 4+ rerolls)

I don't think the payoff is there for the weaker start. Humans are competitive out of the box because of their skill re-rolls. Therefore they should be coached to win early to get a headstart in a league before other teams skill up or max out positionals. The extra cash you get from winning should get the money rolling in to buy a 4th re-roll fairly soon and as I said previously it is only 10k more than the blitzer you have to sacrifice to squeeze in to get the 4th re-roll at start-up.
Incidentally the roster that Shortstop posted is the same as the one I've justed in my new league. Only two games in but it is developing nicely, so far one blitzer, the ogre and both catchers have picked up skills. Bought an apo after game one, and have 60k in Treasury after game 2. Feel a little vulnerable with just 11 players - but hopefully that will improve after game 3.

I agree with most what was posted before. 3 RR is enough IMO. If I would save gold, I would rather take the Apo instead of the 4th RR. Lately I have halso had some succes with Humans without catchers. That allows the Blitzers and Lineman to get skills first instead of the catchers sooking up all SPP's.
Good luck!
