£150k to spend or not to spend - human team dilemma

Hey

I have a Human team in our small league, 14 players (6 linemen, 2 throwers, 3 catchers & 3 blitzers) which is starting to come along nicely. Two bltizers have Guard & one catcher has Block; virtually the rest of the teamare on the verge of their first skill.

Having been lucky with winnings I've found myself with 150k to spend & am pondering buying a 4th blitzer or (preferrably) an Ogre. My problem is that whilst some of the other teams have suffered a casualty or few & thus taking on journeymen so far, I've been lucky to keep my original 12 players, plus the two I've since bought. I'm concerned that buying the Ogre will bump up my TV to such an extent that it gives my opponents a lot in the the way of inducements. Even the guy who has so far been the best player is reluctant to buy a Kroxigor for the same reason...

So, what do you think? Buy the Ogre or 4th blitzer to add a bit more punch to the team (& another dimension if the Ogre) or save it & just develop the sizable team I have currently?

Does it seem strange that teams don't seem to spend in order to artifically keep their TV down??? Or is it the norm to save & spend when you suddenly find yourself in need of numbers?

Ta

Matt...

PS - Wil, if you're reading this... no smart-ass remarks  !

Depends on how fast you play and what the composition of your league is. I would get the blitzer unless your team is full of bashy teams. He will be more useful throughout the whole match compared to the ogre. The ogre is more of a distraction for the other team. You hope they waste two or more players on dealing with him while you use the extra space to score or sack their ball handler.

In terms of artificially keeping your TV down, I think it's generally a bigger deal for agile teams than bashy ones. An agile underdog seems to generally do less well against a bashy overdog, and bashy underdogs tend to do well against (and seriously beat up) agile overdogs.

I don't think it a good idea to artifically keep your team value down. Your opponent will get some inducements, but those are generally more expensive than their real countervalue. The underdog might get an extra Re-Roll per 100k TV difference. Well, a RR is worth 40-70k normally. This is true for most other inducements, too. Don't get me wrong, the underdog will always have a fair chance thanks to spending this free money. But it's better to be the overdog more than 70% of the time.

My opinion: Buy the ogre. Since humans don't have any AV9 nor ST4 players, they'll benefit from the extra bashing power an orge can give them. He'll distract the opponent from your important (and fragile) players.

Whichever you buy, you need to fire an unskilled lineman. You don't need 15 players with a human team. If you fire a lineman, then you won't go up in TV much.

Hey Matt,

Don't worry, it's not a snide comment.

The main reason I am steering clear of the kroxigor is not to keep my TV down. I have played only one game with a full team of uninjured players, because my skinks get targeted by everyone. As they're the only real ball handlers for the team, I need to make sure I've got enough money to buy a few against the majority bashy teams.

The other factor is Matt's snow troll. He managed a double for its skill increase, and gave it block and I imagine the next skill will be MB. That means my saurus could well be in trouble, and I will need the cash to possibly replace them. Plus, a kroxigor costs 140,000 and could be quite an expensive loss if his troll gets a bit hungry.

I'm not overly concerned with TV - I think mine is around 123 - because team's like Matt's norse and Moocher's undead are a fair bit higher. I think your problem is the fact you have so many players, and a lot of them are close to skill ups. If you have a good game you may well be giving away a lot in inducements, and that's where my chainsaw might come in :D

Grab a 4th blitzer, then get Ogre if you like him so much and finaly get a 4th catcher. In the same time you should decrease number of linemen (to 4-5 players). As catchers are fragile stuff, their turnover will be high enough so you dont need to worry about TV :D

Human blitzers are very good. Get him. If you feel that your TV is too high, fire a skilless lineman. As others have said, you don't need 15 players. I try to keep 13 or 14 players in my teams, depending on the team and depending on the other teams in the league.

Keep a smaller, more experienced team instead of a larger team with rookies. Once in a while you'll get bashed and you won't have 11 players for the next game. But the you get Journeymen, and it's not so bad.
