Horrendous start to league

Post by Ratchet »

I had my first league game (against Chaos) in our groups new league yesterday and had an utterly horrible start.

I play an orc team and my starting roster was
3x Blocker
4x blitzer
2x lineman
1x thrower
1x goblin

apart from losing 2 - 0, i didnt gain a single SSP from the match (except the MVP) and had
1 blocker killed
1 blocker at -1 AV and miss next match
1 blitzer miss next match
1 thrower miss next match

Our league consists of khemri, Orc, 2xhuman, dwarf, skaven, wood elf, high elf, 2xchaos.

My next league match is against khemri, and i have no idea what im going to do. apart from get battered.

Any advice from anyone as im a relatively new player

Ouch,

that's really bad luck :( . Your opponent must have been very lucky with his AV- and Injury-rolls to cause so much damage with a unskilled Chaos team...

So, your TV currently is 69 with 7 players... I would only take 3 Journeymen, putting you at aTV of 84 and leaving you 160K for inducements (provided the Khemri player is at TV100). For that money I would either induce a Troll (140 K)for the LOS or a skilled Mercenary-Blitzer (160K) with either Dauntless (to hit the Mummies) or Mighty Blow (to hit the Skellies).

I think I'd take the Dauntless-Blitzer to hunt the Block-less Mummies and put the 3 Journeymen on the LOS on defense.

Good luck :D and tell us how it went,

Tante Käthe

Above is good advice I think and will probably help you survive.

If I was going for the win I'd be thinking Merc Blitzer with MB or Frenzy to go after the skeletons.

Whichever way you choose, good luck.

I've had a start like that and I retired the team and started a virgin one. You're only losing 5 SPPs but you're gaining 4 real players back. If you don't your team is too far behine the curve.

Yeah, I'd start again. It's obvious Nuffle hates that team, and there's no point in fighting it.

go with snew's plan

my mate did that as well (luckily, ive never had such a bad start to am league to start again. but give me time  ) and it works much better

cons - losing Any SSP's you migth have gained, which isnt alot from the sounds of it
pros - gaining a full strength team again.

sure your losing SPP's, but with your current team its doubtful your going to get many next game anyway. start with a new team and stay competitive rather than falling to far behind

That start was brutal! I've seen teams take it on the chin like that before, but not an orc team. Usually it's a lightly armored team (woodies, skaven, zons, etc...)

If your league allows it, I'd start over too. It'll take forever to get the money you need to replace those 2 players, and the other teams will blow by you in the meantime.

What happened to you was a fluke. Start a new team. It won't happen again.

As the commish of the league, I personally would have been against any player wanting to restart after the league had started, however truthfully I never really considered it as a posibility.

I'm not going to be restarting this team as I think it would a bit of an abuse of my powers, so im going to try and make it work. I have no illusions though, and im sure im going to be getting the wodden spoon at the end of this league. :/

Would it be a good idea to just spend the next game keeping my players safe and letting the khemri beat on my 3 journeymen linemen and an induced troll? maybe try to complete a few passes but generally stay away from everything? I should i just think "F it!" and play it the way orcs would!

I knew I should have taken humans :/

Play the game as the Greenskins were designed to do, take the Merc Blitzer and stomp about.

Its not so bad. Kemri are not great at pick up the ball or passing and they are very slow. Like you say just throw your journeymen in the mummies way and take on the skelies with the rest of your team.

I think to restart is poo you have to work with what you've got. I had a bad start with a human team last season. I lost the first 2 games 0-1 and then came across a dark elf team who had a star player with multi stab, he put 7 out of action for the next game. Thats just the way it goes.

Orc power all the way, smash the kemri up and go for the win. If you think you are defeated before you play you will never win. :smoking:

I agree with two post above, FIGHT BACK :D ! Because if you don't, the Khemri player will take out the Journeymen/Merc in no time, outnumber you 11 to 7 and then bring the pain to the rest of your team. Attack is the best defense

stick with the team and see it through till the end with them. Yea you'll probably suffer in the first few games but your orcs so you could always forget about the ball and hurt other teams. Go Savage!

Ah yes, well, if you've never discussed restarting teams, then it would be a conflict of interest to allow yourself to restart the team. We allow restarts but noone has ever done that. Of course, restarting means you lose all points in the standing that you had, but when you have zero, it's no big loss!

But since you are having to play the depleated orc team, you play it like normal. Those journeyman orc linemen are still good.

If you wanna stay alive, FOUL OUT the khemri team. Smash bones, rip bandages, foul as often as you can... and hope for the ref to see it so you can be sent-off. Dirty "stay-alive" tactic, but it works.
