Doubles on a Block/MB Black Orc

Post by Buggrit »

I was thinking of going with Dodge or Jump Up (most unexpected on a B'Orc..) but suggestions are welcome...

Don't ever take Dodge as a first skill on a Black Orc. I did and it took a long time to get block. And then its a very long way to get next skill, so I kicked my blodging black orc. Guard and Block is a hell lot more useable for a black orc.

It's not the first skill - see topic title.

Depends on the rest of the team - I would probably ignore the doubles and take guard.

Did think abou that, I have two other B'Orcs with Guard but a third one would cause problems for the opposition until my rookie B'Orc (5SPP's) can get a skill up...

dodge, for survivability, but you won't get as much mileage out of the mobility increase without break tackle. side step is poular, but you can get stand firm on a normal role which does a similar job. jump up is also good for blockers. Or you could ignore it and get guard.

dodge, he will be on his @ss less through blodge and ST4 so will need jump up less.

Sorry. Don't ever take Dodge as a skill on a Black Orc

He already has ST4, Mighty Blow and Block. If forced to take the double, I'd go with Side Step to really confound enemy blockers. However, I'd be inclined to really up the BOB's bashy-ness with Frenzy. He'd be less useful as a cager but great at clearing the centre of the pitch so a cage could walk through.

Side Step! Stand Firm is no replacement. There is no replacement for ST4/Block/Side Step. It's huge. It's unstoppable. It's tremendous!

Yeah because BOB are sooo fragile. :-?

I would take JU. It increases your speed and it gives you more blocking opportunities. AND people always forget about it. Think about it. If you stand up, you can only move one square. JU quadruples that. It's not quite as useful for JU blocks, but if the situation warrants it, it could get you an extra block or two per game.

If you already had guard, and maybe if it is definitely gonna be your next skill-up, I'd go with Sidestep....

If you're not wed to Guard, then I have to say that Datalorex's rationale has merit....

It's either:

Side Step - to combine with Guard later on. Side Step is better than Stand Firm so it's worth the 30K.

Dodge - Because the kind of players who hit Black Orcs tend not to have Tackle. Which can cause a lot of problems. Especially when combined with Guard and then Stand Firm for skill #5

Jump Up - but I found it to be very lame in LRB5. It's marginal at best imo. BOBs shouldn't get knocked down in the first place.

Guard - cause it's better than all of the three skills above.

I'd be between Dodge and Guard. Dodge is the real long term choice though. 5 skill BoBs are rare.

Side-Step gives you defensive potential that no other skill can match. A Blocker with ST4, AV9 and Block can use Side Step to be in the worst possible place for your opponent pretty much no matter what happens. The nerfed 5th ed. version of Stand Firm is still worth taking, but it's clearly inferior. If the league will go on for a long time, Dodge is worth taking; take Stand Firm next, and you've got one obnoxious MoFo.

For a third skill, it depends on your team :D . Some Orc teams load up their blitzers with guard and have a lineman or two with guard as well. On these teams, give him:

Side Step, with Frenzy being next.

If your team is light on guard, give him guard now.

If your team has some guard, and usually more than your opponent, I'd say Side Step now to pair with guard later. But remember, later is a long, long time from now!

Dodge is fine, as is Diving Tackle. But in both cases you are just better off with the staple guard or the annoyance of side step.
