Well, its almost time for the next league at my local club, the first ill really be involved in and after a not so impressive World Cup (2/1/6 for the weekend, and part of the Wooden Spoon winning Flame On B) im determined to keep with Skaven.
I was thinking of the following
1 x Thrower - 70k
2 x Gutter Runners - 160k
2 x Storm Vermin - 180k
7 x Linerat - 350k
3 x Reroll - 180k
1 x FF - 10k
50k left for an apo/extra linerat.
Now im unsure as to whether i should go that route, 2 gutters and 2 storm vermin, or to drop a storm vermin and take 3 gutters? Also what would be more worthwhile at the start, an apo or an extra linerat?
Cheers

I would drop the thrower and get another GutterRunner

A GR is just as good as a Thrower at handling the ball. You could switch them out, drop the FF, and still have enough for a lineman or an apoth.

The reason i thought about the thrower was for the pass/surehands skills it comes with. But i can see where your coming from. Agility 4 and movement 9 is probably the better option. Would it be advisable to skill one of the gutters up to be a ball handler? Big hand on double, pass etc?

A thrower is a good purchase: a lineman with two nice skills and more skill access for only +20K.
Also, I would buy the apothecary over a 13th player (despite the fact that it is the Skaven lucky number

). With armor 7 and little in the way of Block or Dodge, you will see a lot of players SI'd, and you will probably need that apothecary from your first game on.

GRs are a better deal than Throwers, I agree. However, you might want the Thrower anyway just for the extra ST, and for the ability to pick up when you don't have RRs. Not sure. I'd probably go GR, but I wouldn't fault anyone for doing it differently.
With the extra 50k, take an Apoth.

A thrower is not a bad choice either. GR or Thrower, they both have advantages. You do give up SH and Pass with the GR, but you gain +1AG, +2MV, and Dodge. Of course, you lose 1ST with the GR, but if you use it as a Thrower or backfield runner, it won't usually be involved in fights. The main advantage of starting a GR is that you can start getting SPP quicker. After a few games, you hire a Thrower and start building it.
BTW, I would take Xtra hands with a double over big hands because you can use it on hand offs, catches, and pick ups. It's more versatile.

Well, the league has started and i opted for:
2 Storm Vermin - 180k
4 Gutter Runners - 320k
5 Line Rats - 250k
3 ReRolls - 180k
Apo - 50k
2 FF - 20k
I managed a 2-1 over a chaos team, thanks to the free skill our team got (randomly assigned normal skill). I took block on a gutter runner and he proved invaluable scoring one by blitzing the ball carrier (1 die, both down

) setting up another (blitzing the ball carrier and the ball landed on another gutter) and holding onto the ball in the final turn when blitzed by a Beastman which could have made the game 2-2.
With the league being only 6 weeks with a knockout afterwards, i decided to buy the 4 gutters, as its highly unlikely id get all 4 in by the end of it. Only problem is i had 1 linerat die and another mng. But, 60k winnings meant i could buy one, but ill have to rope in a journeyman for my next match.
Cheers

That's rough. You start with an apoth and you STILL had a dead linerat and one mng? Did you not use the apoth?
Well, you are doing the right thing. Use journeymen and save up for a thrower. Put them on the line and let them get pummled.

Skaven journeymen are just as good as skaven linemen early on. All you want them to do at that stage is hold up the opposing line and take a pummling anyway.

good choice of lineup. Skaven rely nearly completely on gutters, so having the maximum is just common sense. Whenever i play with less than 3 i struggle, as once one is taken out (and they will be targetted) the other one can be very heavily marked and you cover less of the field to make those brilliant plays.

Yep, 3 casualties i received. Apo was being saved for if a gutter runner went down, and one did but thankfully it was only a BH. If id have used the apo to save a line rat, karma would have killed a gutter just to show me!
Caused 2 myself which i didnt think was to bad considering i threw relatively few blocks.

I actually cause more CAS dodging than making bad blocks.
Did you use the apoth on the BH GR to get him back in the game? I have no backbone. I probably would have used the apoth on the dead linerat.

that's skaven for you. More gutters die from tripping over snakes on their way to the endzone than die from blocks or fouls.
