What team to use in league?
Hey all,
My game group is getting a small league together, 6 guys, roughly 5-10 games for the league, plus up to 5 preseason games.
I'm having a hard time deciding which team to field - I've narrowed it down to a few, and would like to hear your thoughts on them:
1. Amazons: Like their starting roster - 4 blodging blitzers - low reroll cost - you can make a healthy roster from the git-go.
PROS - Dodge for everyone! 4 blitzers? Yes please!
CONS - AV7 AND ST3 AND AG3 - Ouch. No Big guys. Can they win vs. teams with tackle?
2. Pro elf: Like the idea of AG4 - it would be nice to pick up the ball in the open on a 2+. Not to mention a strong ball-handling game.
PROS - AG4 for a reasonable price. A fast runner with both AG4 AND ST3.
CONS - AV7 means these guys will take a beating - poor linemen! No big guy option.
3. Ogre: Talk about scary! In my test game with these guys they pounded the heck out of the other team - when they didnt go stupid.
PROS - Duh, they're ogres! STR5, high armor, nasty skills.
CONS - Snot star players? They'll be scoring your Touchdowns - and they cant survive even the weakest of blocks. Ogres can technically run the ball, but can go stupid - simply unreliable.
So what do you think? What other teams should I consider? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

So we're talking about a maximum of 15 games here, right ?
For me, it's Amazons for sure. Cheap, loads of skills, perfect for a rather short league. They start to decline when those other teams got skill combo of Tackle and Mightly Blow on one or several players, but your league should be over before this happens a lot. The only reason I wouldn't play them is having more than 1 Dwarf/Chaos Dwarf team in your league. To be honest, you'll be bashed into the ground by those teams most of the time.
Elfs do need some time to develop. They have great Blitzers and Catchers, but especially those Catchers need 16 SPP's to be really effective. I personally like them very much for league play, but I would only play them if you were to hit those 15 games.
Don't let your Orge experience fool you, my very jung Padawan. It's true, sometimes they'll win a game by smashing the opponent into the ground. I once played with my Norse against them, and non of my players was left on the field in the mid of the second half. BUT that's not the normal way. We've started a fresh league recently, one of the coaches is playing Ogres. I've played with my experimental fresh Wood Elf team (zero Rerolls, lots of positonals) against them and won 5:0 (5:2). That's how most matches will end, with a loss. Sure, you'll make some casualies because of Mighty Blow, but your opponent will hunt down those mini Goblins (forgot their name right now) and make even more SSP's.

I find amazons terribly boring. It's all about getting blodge on everyone and praying you don't meet dwarfs. I'd go with the elves!

Of the ones you mention, I'd take Elves. The Ogres are very hard to play and win with, so they are more of a for fun team. The Amazons are OK, but not my cup of tea.
But Dark Elves are my all time favorite team, especially under LRB5. The Witch Elves, with a few skills (Block and SideStep), become a menace on the field. They are hard to handle tough. Not that fast, not that tough. They have to adapt to the other team's strength and weeknesses to be effective. But if you master that, your golden.
I'm still trying to figure-out how to play against Lizardmen with them ...

What about taking dwarfs and hoping that the other coaches think of picking amazon
My favorite elf team are the woodelves. I am currently playing high elves and the thing with them is, you have just few skills in the beginning. If you take them, you should get the 2 blitzers in the starting lineup.

Even if Ogre looks fierce they are a big source of frustration for league game. We have one Ogre team in our league (24 teams, 2 divisions ), and coach still claim that they are "entertaining" to play bu you can see how light of enthusiasm slowly fade in his eyes
Given a choice I would take Pro Elves. You can dominate a league if it is 15 games max. Another question is if you are transfering teams in next season - in that case I would go with Humans, Dark or High Elves.
