Folks,

I am planning on taking an Elf team to my first ever tournament and wanted to ask for suggestions between High Elf and Pro Elf teams?

High Elves have more Armour, but the Pro Elves have more skills.

Also what skills would you recomend as the Tournament progresses?
I get Three normal and one double to start and the same again during later rounds.

The Pro Elves are good when you won´t get any new skills, they live and die from their pass play.

The High Elves grow the best when they get their first skills. They survive through their runners.

It´s all about what you like more to do, throw the ball or carry the ball :)

First of all, what kind of tournament is it ? 1.000k or 1.100k ?

And do you receive those 4 skills after every round ?! It's hard to give you an advice without knowing those details.

I've played Pro Elfs on several tournaments now (in fact, I've returned from a 2 day tourney only hours ago), so let my tell you one thing: Neither Pro Elfs nor High Elfs are very good tournament teams. They can be fun, they can win their share of games, but you'll need more luck compared to those great tournament teams (Orcs, Undead, Dwarfs, Amazons).

Tournament is 1.1
Get Three normal and One Double skill to start
Then Two normal and One Double skill after game four.

Ok, I can tell you about my favorite 1.1 roster:

12 player total:
2x Blitzer
3x Catcher
1x Thrower
6x Lineman
3 Rerolls
0 FF, 0 CL, 0 AC

For starting skills, I'd begin with:
Normal: Leader for the Thrower, 1 Catcher with Block, 1 Catcher with Wrestle
Double: Guard for 1 Blitzer

After game 4, I'd go on with:
Normal: Kick for a Lineman, Block for the third Catcher, open skill for a lineman (take a look at potential opponents, Wrestle, Block, Dauntless or Tackle may be good choices)
Double: Guard for the other Blitzer

Strategy: Those Blitzers are mobile assists: They can bring Guard to where it is needed, they can take light punchs (AV8) and maybe they drive your opponent crazy (Sidestep Guard combo).
The Catchers are your real Blitzers. ST3 and MA8 is great. If you need to take someone with Block down, choose the Wrestle guy. Otherswise, those Block Catchers are your first choice. Don't let these guys be in blocking position, play mainly hit and run.
Since you have 12 players, you even may think about fouling key players. Again, get the victim down with the Wrestle Catcher and foul with a lino.
You'll notice that you'll have 4 Rerolls, which is very much for an Elf team on a tourney. You'll need these because with my skill choises, you won't have Dodge. Since 1/3 of my opponents seem on tourney seem to be Dwarfs, I don't take Dodge anymore.

Thanks for that the Stratagy tips help to make sense of the Skill choices. I did wonder about the lack of Dodge.

The Leader reroll seems a bit of a waste of skill choice with only getting sever overall, but I guess it depends on how lucky you are with the dice. I think I will move that into the second set of skills and see how I do on the first day. If I need more rerolls I will take it, if not I will go with something else, maybe Accuracy for doing a longer pass.

I have been advocating Guard on Pro elf catchers for as long as the team has been out.

they really are the roving assist kings!

good luck mate

High elf and pro elf are very difficult teams to play especially if your are getting back in the swing of it.

Yeah, but the Pro Elf Blitzer wears guard very well too, as he starts with side step and block! All in all, a great team to roll doubles with (unlike, say Dwarves)

Runner: Dodge, Jump Up, Sure Feet, Sprint
Blitzer: Jump Up, Dodge
Blocker: Diving Tackle, Side Step
Troll Slayer: Side Step
DeathRoller: Block, Frenzy

I'm actually quite a fan of doubles on Dwarfs...

For the runners, Death Roller, and Troll Slayer, you're surely right. For the blockers and blitzers, I would argue you are better off with the normal rolls at low TV. Guard and Mighty Blow are better than Diving Tackle and Side Step, and at 10 less TV.

And since I typically load up my dwarf tourney teams with blocker skills, I still don't think the doubles are that great for dwarves in tournies (except side step on the slayers, I had forgotten about that!)

At high TV's, however, I think dwarves vastly benefit from doubles. Exactly as you ahve shown.

in tourneys, the key double skill is usually guard or block on players that don't usually get it. With dwarfs, if you are relying on skills for speed and stopping passes at low TR (i.e. agility skills), then you probably don't have enough control over the game.

Pro Elves rule, especially in tournaments.

Dodge on both Blitzers simply shuts down the corners on D. They're incredible. After that, I'm big on a Block Catcher and a Guard Lino. Those Catchers are really at their best in a league, where you can develop them willy-nilly, but in a tournament, the superior Blitzers more than match up.
