Amazon team starting.
Hi I'm rather new to BB and have played 10 matches or something with a Lizardmen in a league at home, it's gone rather good but now we are starting a new team and I am thinking of Amazons. The league will be around 16 matches. Dunno about the other teams except it will be one Norse, Pro Elf and Khemri. it will be about 5 more teams i think. What do you think of this roster? We use LRB 5 and the first 2 matches u can't get serious injuries on your players btw.
4 Linewomen
Normal: kick ( should it be the first skill I take one one or after block?), block tackle Doubles: guard and sidestep.
If one gets double as first skill I would take diving tackle and then later tackle to mark the other elvish catcher that makes it through my lines.
4 Blitzers -
Normal: guard, mighty blow, tackle. Doubles: Sidestep
One will be developed with tackle and frenzy, to knock down those one of those elvish catchers who always comes through my line.
2 Catchers - to have access to Sidestep without rolling doubles and also catch, for only 20k a piece is that worth it? Otherwise they should be the same as Linewomen I think.
1 Thrower - Hoping for AG increase of course but what skill should I take first otherwise? Thinking of Accurate and Strong arm on doubles. Sure Hands I'm not sure of because I'm thinking of using other players to pick up the ball and then pass it to him to get comps when they have got the mvp.

here is my team
I've had a good run. 13-2-3
Maybe that will give you a little inspiration!
With all the dodge I decided to run a Running game rather than a Passing game.
I leave my kick thrower deep to collect the ball.
Get the ball to my Dumper
Run a catcher or two into a scoring position
Wait for my chance to strike!
On defence I play a high pressure blocking game. (I'm 3rd, I think, for casualties in my league???) I only have 4 guarders (and one died) so Guard isn't the end all be all! You need it but not as much as you may think.
Catchers are awesome with Side step & Diving tackle. NoS would have been a better choice for doubles in hindsight. I'd take them for the AG access and milk it. Jump Up, Sure Feet, Pass Block are all good too...
Doubles for a Blitzer should be DT for 2 and Jump Up for the other 2. They do a lot of your work and making them all into static Guarders is a bit of a waste. Side step is good but easily replaced with Stand Firm, use the doubles on some thing you can't otherwise get.
No bug guys means that Dauntless is a must. I've really struggled to give Linemen dauntless because all my MVPs go to me positionals for some reason??? Against Orcs or Chaos or any other high ST team, it can get tricky without it.
The games I've lost was mostly due to not having Tackle. If I did it again I'd take Tackle much earlier than I had origionaly planned.
I don't like Kick on linemen that much either... With all 8 positionals on teh pitch your three linemen should be on the line (oddly enough) thus making Kick useless. I would never feed a positional to the other team by setting them up on he line while kicking. If you give Kick to a thrower, she can use her default position and starting skills to make up for the slow start in SPPs that giving up accurate would lump you with. Plus she is almost always out of the action waiting deep for a mistake by the other coach so she can collect the ball... Since she doesn't see much action, you have very little chance to lose the Kick advantage.
Kick is a pretty awesome skill too. (for zonz) Kick it close and make them worry about you using Dodge to penatrate his line and collect on an error. Kick it deep and prevent them from making a decent cage. Kick left or right if they try to favour one side over the other.
Amazons are a solid team with as good a chance as any T1 team. They get a bit of sitck for their boring roster but they are way more fun to play than a lot of the other teams out there. Use Dodge to get position and Pray for a ST up! Never count on dodge to win you a fight, they always seem to roll 'Pow' when they need it!
Hope that helps!

I do not found kick a good skill for amazons. They are too slow to profit from this advantage.
Thrower : I had an AG increase and that is wonderfull. Otherwise accurate en sure hands. Sure hands is the skill for the thrower. You do not want to throw the ball to the thrower. He does not have catch and that one point will cause you to use many RR's for it.
Catchers : I do like the catch for 20k. Make them score quick so they have block. Blodgers with the ball are hard to get down. Use the catchers to throw to or to give the ball through a handover.
At the beginning of the league I prefer the blitzers to handle the ball in case that you have not used your RR in that turn. Otherwise you give the ball to the catcher.
So, to resume. I play amazons like this. Get them into blodgers and take the guard on doubles. That case you eliminate (for great part) the disadvantage of armour 7.
And, important. Roll better dodge dice then Doubleskulls on the world cup.

Ah cool you live in Brisbane! I'm there visiting but I'm flying home tomorrow to cold Sweden otherwise we could have taken a game or two! But thx for the advice and cool team you have there too.
But there is a few things I don't really understand about your team.
Wrestle on the dumper?
And all that wrestle, doesn't that make your cage weaker when you are running if your players go down all the time. I mean doesn't open up for the oppo to come close and blitz ur dumper?
And did you take the skills in the order that they are written?

Shame we didn't start chatting sooner...Ghurt wrote: Ah cool you live in Brisbane! I'm there visiting but I'm flying home tomorrow to cold Sweden otherwise we could have taken a game or two! But thx for the advice and cool team you have there too.
Magic mate! Most of the time they have to build a solid play to get a blitz shot at your thrower (most of the time) so its one of their last actions to take the shot. Why not force them down after you sneak it away? If you go for a run in the next turn, their guy will have just lost three MA to have another crack.Ghurt wrote:But there is a few things I don't really understand about your team.
Wrestle on the dumper?
The thing about Wrestle is that most people if given the choice between push or double down won't take the double down. They'd rather have their player on their feet so they have more options next turn. If they do go down, you get the drop on them positionally... On your turn you get up for three and no longer have any tackle zones on you to prevent your movement.Ghurt wrote: And all that wrestle, doesn't that make your cage weaker when you are running if your players go down all the time. On your turn, if you roll the double down you have still achieved something... They will have the advantage on their turn but for now you have made a nice hole to exploit. One you would not have made if you both had block.
Wrestle+Tackle is great for this. Do you have Block and or Dodge? Well I don't give a spit, you're going down! Add strip ball for a real laugh!
Wrestle+Dauntless is great too. Most ST4ish guys will have block, won't have dodge, and got low MA.
More importantly, as ai mentioned earlier though... you have 8 positionals on the pitch. for me 7 of those have (or will have) block. That leaves only 3 linemen with wrestle. 3 isn't that bad.
As far as the cage getting weaker... All that dodge makes you mobile! If you get ina slog fest you did something wrong! If they would rather blitz my linemen than my ball carriers... so be it!

Yes, Thats right.Ghurt wrote: And did you take the skills in the order that they are written?

Oh, and this is gospel! Its the first rule in the lineman handbook! I can't think of many teams where I wouldn't give Guard to the linemen as fast as possible!Magictobe wrote: Linewomen : On a double I would give guard. No doubt about that one.

the only other skill i think is great for Amazons is sure feet, as speed for scoring can be a real. I'd only take it if you have trouble scoring though, because side step and diving tackle are probably earlier choices in terms of agility skills.
also try and score with linewomen. Getting the ladies skilled up across the team with blodge and tackle really makes for a hard side to play against. You also then have more opportunity for specialist skills like dauntless and dirty player, as well as more rolls meaning more doubles.
The only teams where guard isn't auto choice on double are stunty teams.
