Chaos dwarves...and diving tackle...

Hi all,
I've just rolled the 2nd double skill on my Fumbbl Chaos dwarf team.
http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team& ... _id=396588
This now gives me 2 CD blockers with Diving tackle.
In terms of setup, where do you see them being the most effective?
My initial thoughts were to keep them in the wide zones, on the 3rd square from the crowd. Making sure that the cornerbacks set up behind my LOS, will share a TZ with them. (Following this?)
Anyone have any experience with DT on the blockers?
Thanks in advance for any replies

I had DT on a regular Dwarf blocker. He caused a couple of turnovers, but he also became foul target #1, which resulted in his premature death. In the future, I'll probably put Diving Tackle on a faster, more agile player, because it was fairly easy for my opponents to tie up a blocker, and it was hard to get him where he needed to be.
Tackle and DT are a sweet, sweet combination though.

I'd probably keep them a little closer to the middle than the wide zones. Maybe just inside the wide zone.
With MA4 is too easy to attack one flank leaving the other a few turns to get into the action. Since this is pretty common elven tactic anyway it means one of your DTs is isolated & useless.

Both good points....I'm hoping their foul magnetism will be lessened by their being 2 of them.
What about LOS vs elves and agility teams....(The common tactic for those teams being to take the 2 + dodge and bail on the line of scrimmage)
Thoughts?

Really I see the DT dwarf as being the ultimate pin. 2 on the LOS do mean you can cover 6 squares, but its too easy to either line up 2 dice blocks against them. Then they are pinned on the LOS and aren't mobile at all.
The alternative would require you putting more players on the LOS which means its easier to get into the backfield meaning players on the LOS are too far from the action.
So you need them as deep defence. They go and mark the potential receiver(s) you won't blitz, or maybe if your opponent caged in your half to walk over after the blitz and stand next to the ball carrier. MA4 means they need to be central to give reasonable coverage and not get left behind too much.

Ian has it right.
Spread them around as they are still MA 4 and aren't going to be dodging any place.
If you want to push your opponent into a particular area on the field you could vary it a bit but that's the only circumstance that I would.
In fact, the last paragraph Ian wrote is all you need to know.
Although I have to confess that I've not been plagued by foul attempts on them. In my experience they don't tend to be blitz targets (as the opponent doesn't want to go near them at all) and they're not vulnerable. And although they're prone a lot, they're always the first guy to stand up.
Oh and take Stand Firm next.

I'd put them in as safeties, at least against speed teams. Three squares back, clogging up Broadway, so the opponent has to use a Blitz even to get there. Their central location allows them to step in to cover receiving threats, and being 3 squares back means they can get across the LOS to drop TZs/assists/Blitz if the game stalls out at the line.

Fouling Dwarves isn't a good idea unless you've got DP and/or Sneak Git. So bring it on!

Yes, keep them back, just inside the wide zones, for the reasons others have described. You want to move at least one of them to where your opponent broke through the line.
As for fouls, if you keep them back like that, it is pretty hard to get-in a foul with assists. They need to blitz him, then bring people over, then foul. As Ian said, bring it on.
As for the use of DT, try not to use DT unless you are causing a guaranteed turn-over. Then there is no chances of fouling. Dodge, miss, reroll, then use DT only if it makes the player fall. Then it's a turnover and it's your turn, so no foul. You can use DT on the first dodge in most cases as a Chaos Dwarf has AV9, but might not be a good idea when you are already surrounded by opponents.

Let 'em foul. What do you care?

Going prione with Diving Tackle generally doesn't allow a foul (because it would cause a turnover for the opponent, allowing you to stand up next turn.)
So... you are talking about situations where the opposition goes out of their way to headhunt this guy, knock him down, and foul him. Frankly, with your delicate hobgoblins and valuable bulls, it's probably better for you if people target your diving tackle dwarf this way!

I was referring to using DT when opponent has a TRR. I'd do it, unless the dodge was a 1+, except maybe at end of turn if the drive has gone on awhile and I like my guy where he is. Especially on my opponent's Turn 1 after kicking, when they're burning a TRR that's who knows how valuable down the line.

Update; Just played my first game with this pair. Opponent was Wood elves.
I kept them, Just on the center side of the mid-zone, about 3-4 squares back from the LOS.
Wow, these two must have caused at least 4 turn overs between the 2 of them.
Granted, this WE team was really badly beaten up from their last game....
So, I'd leave it at that....keep them a bit back, apply as needed to "dodgy fruits"....wait for your turn to start.
Thanks for all your thoughts
