Norse in league - Blog

This tuesday the Aros BB League started up again, this time with yours truly among the beginners.
I had opted for a Norse team (as I had the minis...), and during the draft it became clear that I had landed in a very bashy group! We are 28 players, divided into a lower and an upper bracket. The lower brackets contain a few developed teams, some had chosen to fire coaching staff etc. in order to drop into the lower bracket groups, and in the first match (a cross-over match between the two groups) I were to meet one of them.
Anyway, I should introduce
the groups... As you can see (I am
Great Danes, in Group D), I am to meet Chaos Dwarfs, Lizardmen, Nurgle Chaos, Undeads, Orcs and yet more Chaos Dwarfs... Suddenly I have become the finesse team of the group!
The first match was against the developed
Addicted Lunatics Clan in a cross over match. I was granted 440Ks of inducements, which bought me an Apo and Icepelt Hammerblow.
A brief match report will follow, until then you can read
the result here.
Cheers!

A good double choice straight off (Guard on a lino). And a nice win.
I had typed a whole spiel which could only hijack the thread so I won't post it here (although I'd like your reasoning, ig you'd care to share it on the thread I'm about to start.

Yes, Guard on the Lino was an almost no-brainer... I rolled double 5s, so also had the opportunity to give him +1 AV. Had it been a Runner, I probably would have, seeing that my players will most likely have a rather short life span in this season
Regarding the match, it sure had its ups and downs... He succeeded in a few Gobbo throws, which caught me
completely off guard! I haven't played much, and it was my first match against Goblins... His Trolls didn't do much, as I quickly fouled the AV9 of them (niggling injury, he couldn't regenerate!), which made my two Clawed players a bit over endowed in the killy department! I crowd pushed when I had the opportunity, but wasn't able to inflict more than KOs.
First half ended 0-1, as he had scored a goal rather fast, and kept me from doing any good with the ball, mainly doing to flying Goblins. In the second half though, Gobbo Attrition made itself clear, with very few Goblins making it onto the pitch.
Two goals later, I was sure of the victory. That I didn't win any bigger was due to my utter lack of ways of stopping the dodging little bastards, they were all over the place!
Also, my inexperience with Goblins (and BB in general

) was a factor, so I reckon more games is the cure for this coach
Lessons learned:
- I probably need a few Tackle players.
- Having a Frenzy player is great, having five is amazing.
- Expect the unexpected. Or at the very least read up on the other team's rules!
- Ball and Chain = world of hurt.
Anyway, my next game will be against
The Scum of The Earth...
Any help and advice will be appreciated

I'd have been just as tempted by the +1MA but Guard is golden for these linos.

You've got 50k and a Snow Troll? Not hiring an Apothecary is inviting bad luck.
After that buy a 2nd Runner. Runners are WAY better than Berserkers, given your opposition. You're going to need a good two-turn mechanism to do well in such a bashy situation. Dauntless is a nice extra bonus, given how much ST4 you're going to have to deal with; it'll turn a 1d block into a 2d block 5/6 of the time. So against an ST4 guy without Block and one assist, your Runner has a 17/24 chance (nearly 75%) to knock down and only (edit:) 11/216, or about 5%, to fall. By contrast, the BOB vs. him (straight up or with an assist) is only 55.56% to kd and is 11.11% to fall, more than double those odds.

So, any advice for my upcoming match?
I'll be meeting the Nurgle team, as stated earlier... Any advice would help!
Also, should I buy an apo? He already has 110K to induce for, would it be a bad idea to give him more?
Cheers,
Troels.

get an apo, then you can save atleast one of all those that will die.

Depends on his situation. If he's got 12+ players, then an Apo gives him a Wizard over a wandering Apo... and that's an either-way choice. If not, then he's looking at a Merc anyway, so just take the Apo and let him have a better Merc.

Be sure to bad mouth your opponent at every possible occasion

- That IS my strategy at the moment, it is Tarp... Not hard to find something
His team is listed
here...

Take an Apothecary. He can't induce anything TOO scary, and if he takes a Wizard it'll be in lieu of something valuable at 100k.

So, tonight was the big night.
It was a massacre, and not one of the good sort.
I had appaling luck, combined with some good rolls on my opponent's behalf (as well as me making a few bad calls)... The result was never in question, and it ended 0-3, with 0-4 in CAS
Two of those were kills, and on my Berserkers to boot! Having bought an apo, I only lost one of them...
I won't go into detail about the match, other than saying that it was a horrible one-sided event, which really wasn't all that fun to play. Now I need to see what skill my 6 SPP Lineman will get. That's right, I actually managed to pass the ball once, which was enough to get a skill for one of my guys! The one who got the MVP, however, will be tending his broken ribs for the next game, denying me the chance of me getting him to skill up... *sigh*

Bummer. Who's your next opponent? Tackle or Kick, I say, but I'd like to see who you've got coming up before I make a call.
At least you bought the Apothecary!

I'd probably take Kick first. Norse lineman can skill up reasonably easily so its a good first skill for the team and won't slow him down too much.

The skill roll gave me a regular skill, and I have narrowed it down to the two you suggested
Kick would mean an advantage when attacking (ball handling-wise) and tackle would be great when I am to meet the Lizardman player... I am not yet decided! The next player to face the might of the Norse is
Smakkdown United (take some time to read his player profiles, they are hilarious!), but they still have to fight one more match before meeting me... At the moment, there is a 230K TV difference, but that will probably expand
