New orc team with new tactic

Hello All,

I have just joined PBEMBBLIII with a few teams, one of them, and the one suiting me the most, being an orc team.

I am currently playing my third game against dwarves, and the way things look right now, I will be having 3-game winning streak.

my current roster is at
http://www.mycgiserver.com/~VikingCGI/p ... nsorcs.htm

(4 blitzers, a thrower, 7 linemen and 2 savage orcs)

and after this game it should be upgraded even more due to a bonus income card (average around 140k), provided my opponents doesn't steal it all. :)

My thought is to develop a 'fast' orc team - adding Varag ghoul-chewer, morg, and this star player:

Ulrik Woolfson 7 4 4 8 Block, Dodge, Frenzy, Claws, Woof Woof
plays for Human, Orc, Goblin, Chaos, Ogre, Norse 190,000

this would give me a bunch of fast hard-hitters, and only when I get them, I would convert linemen (max 2 ) to BoBs.

Thoughts?

Morg is always good, however i think you'll find that PBEMBBL will convert to the LRB for the next season, so Morg Will be redundant, and my Black Moon Vipers will be forced into early retirement. As such i am concentrating on building an undead team now, and have had incredible luck with both mummies getting a ST increase.

Due to the fact that the league lets you use Star players at the moment it is almost a neccesity to recruit stars just to compete. My very first game in the PBEMBBL was against a chaos dwarf team with minotaur Star Player, Bull Centaur Star Player and that Damn Hail Mary secret weapon Chaos Dwarf Star Player ( Mad eye or something ). In fact i soon realised they all had Star players. as a result my first recruit was Varag. and then Morg. Unfortunately as is the downside of Stars, they temded to dominate all the plays, and as such i have only played a couplke of games with them this season, but the Undead team have gone 6-0

Could you run by me what the conversion to LRB will mean to teams, in practise?

For instance, why would Morg become redundant? He is still available, isn't he?

I would like to developed the orcs in such a way that they can make it into next season.

And I know all about those mummies... since my poor skaven are played them now... ;) at least we're having fun.

I must admit running up against Count L has been a serious bother in 2 games I have played so far. The star player impact is definately present in the early games of beginning teams.

Thanks at least.

Now, what about the tactic of developing a 'fast' orc team... unlikely under LRB rules?

In LRB you can only freeboot star players - so you can't have Morg as a permanent member of your team. This also applies to wizards.

thats a shame as i was going to suggest varag, as i still rate him highly as a star player.

hmmm only freeboot them huh... that explains a lot... so if I want lasting potential, I will need to developed about 14 regular players, leaving me room to occasionally freeboot one or 2...

Ok.

Thanks.

That means the strength route will have to be taken... :)

I would not develop a team to accomodate freebooters.

Getting one for the playoffs or a critical game fair enough but you are never going to have enough cash to freeboot a star player every game - probably not enough to freeboot one even every third game.

If you just want to burn cash freeboot a wizard instead and let your regular players develop.

There is nothing to stop you buying an Ogre albeit with Bonehead. He's no Morg but a worthwhile addition to the team. If you want to develop a fast team then i am afraid your going to be relying on your Blitzers to do the work for you, and probably even a couple of Gobbo's. Even then the Orcs will need some AG skills to fit in with the fast team idea, so you'll need to be lucky with your die rolls.

Well, "orcs" and "fast" are not normally words you hear in the same sentence. If you want to play it fast the best way I see to do it is using Goblins in combination with your four blitzers. The Gobbos are to make a run down either widezone with the blitzers protecting them. The little guys are going to need Sure Feet so you can Go For It without too much worry. Sure Feet would also be good. Otherwise you'll be stuck with MA6.

For variation you could get an Ogre to chuck Goblins down the field to take your opponent by surprise. Otherwise it will be mainly a running game with a few long passes by the thrower to spice it up.

Well, I've started adding in a 'strength' element to my game.

There was one lineman not getting any SPP (actually there were 2, but one of the bastards got an MVP, while ANY OTHER player would've gotten a skill with an MVP) so I sacked him and hired 2 BoB.

I now have a 15-player roster, to which I will probably add an ogre next.

Note that I believe in developing a 'broad' team where everyone can grow, as opposed to SPP-hoggers. Although I'm sure there will be a natural focussing on scoring players, since they are rewarded more SPP-wise.

Thanks for the tips, though.
