Pro Elf Catcher skill question

I have a new Pro Elf team that is 2 games in. I got lucky at the end of my second game when one of my catchers got +1 ST for his first skill. 8447 ROCKS! hehe.. anyway, I was wondering what I should give him for his second skill. I thought I could turn him into a utility catcher/blitzer and go with Block for his next skill.

What do you all think?

Depending on how much Tackle is in your League Block/Dodge are about as useful as each other for protecting your Catcher from being knocked down, and Dodge is going to help him get to the ball/score more than Block.

He will mak an excellent Runner so Dodge, Block, Sure Hands & Leap will all be useful for getting the ball and scoring.

Block! Then Frenzy. Had the same thing happen in the league I played last, and there's very little scarier than MA8, ST4, Block and Frenzy!

I've got to agree with Matt on this. Last league, I had a Dark Elf blitzer get 4 ST. Gave him frenzy as his second skill up. That was beautiful. He'd blast a hole in the defensive line and we were off to the races. Won the league tourney and it was a lot because of that blitzer.

So, block, frenzy, dodge, in that order. He won't need much else. And with him blasting holes in the defense, you're other players will be open to score. And when you're on defense, either use him to attack into their backfield and create absolute pandemonium there, which is what I did, or use him as your safety. Not in the middle where he'll just be a target.

And remember, elves are ALWAYS on offense. Doesn't matter who kicks off.

Block, Frenzy then Dodge. For the reasons others have said. If you get another skill after that, Side Step or Strip Ball or Tackle, depending on the opposition that you face in your league and the make-up of the rest of your team.

Doubles, I'd go with Mighty Blow. You will be blitzing with this guy almost every turn, so the MB will be used a lot. Especially with Block and Frenzy (and Tackle if you face lots of dodge), which increase your chances of getting your opponent down.

For #4, I'd go Side Step over Strip Ball and Tackle. By the time this guy gets to 51, Sure Hands will be all over the place. Tackle loses some of its juice with Frenzy. Side Step, OTOH, combines so damn well with everything else this guy has.

Then at 76, get Shadowing.

As others have said, Block, Frenzy, Side Step.

I don't take any Dodge with Pro-Elves but if you do I'd put that in after Frenzy.

I agree with Cramy on the Mighty Blow for the doubles roll. You're going to be using this guy to knock people down with, you might as well knock them out of the game.

I you get doubles on another player, give him guard. Then you can use the 2 of them in tandem and really create bad situations for your opposition.

I agree with the Block, Frenzy

New question:

I have just had a blitzer that has gotten his second skill up. His first was of course Dodge and on the second, I rolled double 5's. Any ideas?

Here's my current roster after 3 games:

Blitzer - 7348 - Block, Side step, Dodge, -NEW SKILL or +MA or +AV
Blitzer - 7348 - Block, Side step, Dodge
Thrower - 6348 - Pass
Catcher - 8447 - Catch, NOS, +1ST
Catcher - 8347 - Catch, NOS
Lineman - 6347 - Dodge
Lineman - 6347 -
Lineman - 6346 - Dodge, -1 AV
Lineman - 6347 -
Lineman - 6347 -
Lineman - DEAD

guard

with dodge and side step you can put him where he is really needed

or +1MA: 8-3-4-8 blodger with sidestep is quite a good tight end - good for anything

Guard.

With Blodge & Side Step he is just crying out for it.

This is the player you can use with your 4 ST catcher. Use the blitzer with side step and guard to set up the block/blitz with the 4 ST catcher.

[code:

_ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _

_ X _ _ | X _ _ _ _ _ X | _ _ X _
_ _ X _ | _ X X X X X _ | _ X _ _
--------------------------------------
_ C B _ |L L L _ L _ _ | _ B B _
_ _ _ _ | C _ _ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ | T _ _ _ _ _ B | _ _ _ _ ]

Now then, put the blitzer with guard in the left wide zone, with the 4 st catcher. You can blow a hole through here. Use the your lineman to even get a push on their lineman on the outside, then set the blitzer into that space, and then a 2 die block on that linebacker with your 4 st blitzer. Now you've got a space to run the blitzing catcher, a free lineman and the other catcher through. And, there are a hundred variations on this theme, depending on what your facing in any given set up.

Hmm. I don't remember seeing anybody setup like this on defence. You don't need guard or ST4 to break through that defence with many players and score in two turns. I think it's a bad example. But your point is still good. Move-up the blodging, Side Stepping, Garder to provide an assist and optionally put a TZ on another opponent at the same time (if you want to mark him), then blitz with another player to put a hole in the defence.

Guard or Mighty Blow are both excellent choices on that blodging, sidestep blitzer. Which one you pick depends on how you want to use him.

I'd be tempted to give the Blitzer Guard (for the aforementioned reasons) and skill-up a couple of catchers to be used as blitzers. The Blitzers have AV8, so that helps as Guard means that he may end turns standing next to opposition. Mighty Blow on the catchers on doubles. Especially the ST4 guy.

Yeah, I know, that defense as it looks isn't a good one, I started messing with the code thing, couldn't get it to work right and paid less attention to what I was actually trying to show.

I was trying to show a bash team defense and how he could get through it, either BOBs or CHaos Warriors with a Blitzer with guard and that 4 ST catcher. But, even if it does look raw, the point is valid. With those two in combination, you can bust through almost any defense, and with some help from a couple of line, you can bust through about anywhere you need to.

Then, of course, you can use the blitzer/guard on the second turn to help knock loose any players attempting to mark your receiver.
