How on earth do you stop them (with Halflings). In fact, stopping them is a bonus. Just keeping the score down would be nice.

Kill them!!!

The problem with that is by the time you have killed enough to make a difference, they have scored 3 or 4

Halflings are terrible players, so doing anything with them is considerably tricky.
Really, the best you can hope for is to play the time control game. Kick to your opponant and LET them score on turn two or three. Then hold onto the ball (even cage it, maybe, with Treemen as anchors) until turn 7 or so and then Throw Team Mate for a turn 7/8 equaliser.
Next half you receive and do exactly the same thing - hold onto that ball with all your willpower! The Elves will have to take the ball off you, and Elves getting close to Treemen isn't something they'll relish doing. Then, again, on the last few turns you Throw Team Mate and score again.
Mind you, it's not an especially reliable tactic. But it's the best I can think of.

Diving Tackle really helps. The elves still get 2 die blocks against your STR 2 AV 6, bt usually they don't have tackle. Diving Tackle assures the elves won't be able to easily move wherever they want to cancel or add assists.

Possibly, though that does involve skilling up a number of Halflings - not an easy thing at the best of times!
And besides, the Elves only really need to push a hole in the Halfling's defense - then they can pour Catchers through the gap and swiftly score.
In this case Sidestep may be better. The Elves can push you around all day long, but they won't be getting through that line very easily!

At low TV, you will really have no chance.
If you have inducements, I suggest bribes to help fouling...
I would also try to hem in as many elves against the trees as you can - sort of a reverse cage around them rather than the ball...
But essentially I would put your chance at drawing, let alone winning as less then 5%! Good Luck

I had a couple of draws against D Elves at the Monkeybowl, including being 1 down at half time and then spending every turn of the second half to carry the ball almost the length of the pitch to score on the final turn, that was fun. The other was a 3-3 shoot out where the Elves only equalised on the last turn of the game. I was greatly helped by many ones on their part when trying to pick up, and one very silly interception by a fling. I played two other DE teams and lost very heavily (where in one match, three treemen were carried off in the first 4 turns of the game!!!).

In tournies, you are using your trees to get casualties and make areas of teh board too dangerous to enter.
You also need to cut down their movement. As already mentioned, diving tackle is great for that.
You also need to use your tackle zones to make his ball actions hard to do.
But it's not easy, as you found out at MonkeyBowl.
Incidentally, what skills did you take? I considered Halfings with:
20 Grab on both trees.
20 2x Sneaky Git
40 2x Dirty player
40 2x Side Step
Then Sure Feet, Sprint, maybe Kick Off Return.

Had catch once (for hand offs when trying the 1 turner), Hail mary pass (which was legendary at the MB and I am seriously thinking about getting it in the league when I next role a double), Diving Catch twice (which never worked out) Kick off return twice (which worked pretty well and having two means you can cover more space) and diving tackle twice (which I got to use once in 6 games. Having only two players with diving catch meant that they were the first to be picked on, and went off pretty quickly).
I never really think about dirty skills as I try to concentrate on scoring. I might have to leave that mindset behind if I am ever going to win the SC.

You do know that can only be used by 1 player dont you? so both your KoR cant move on the same kick off.

Yes but by cover more space I mean you can set them up on different sides of the pitch, so at least one of them will already be nearer the ball, if it gos down the sideline.

Agreed. You're screwed.
Without any skills, it is pretty-much impossible to prevent them from scoring. Skills that you want on your flings are Diving Tackle and SideStep. You want 4 of those if possible.
But that won't help you now. Ball control is the key. Build a cage of flings and try to slowly move-up the field with the treemen, until they take root. Then see if you can run-up your cage to score, or get thrown by a Tree. If you have enough inducements, get Deeproot. He won't take root, and it will help protect your little guys running-up the field. If all hell breaks loose and you run out of time, then TTM.
If you can't get Deeproot, then the Master Chef and Bribes are good choices. Foul as much as possible, especially if you have a couple of bribes.
