How to beat dwarfs

Post by Grumbledook »

Right then these little ginger hairy prople seem to be the bane of my undead at the moment. Any advice on what set ups to use against them and how i should go about scoring at least 2 tds vs them, cause i am forever getting draws against them.

Should any dwarf coaches be kind (or stupid) enough to point out how stronger teams beat them (if they do ever lose to them), i would be grateful for tyhe advice. Not that i expect them to ;]

Just play to your strengths & their weaknesses. Dwarves are slow & only have 4 ball carriers while you have speed & more ball handlers. Hit & foul his agility players often.

Don't play Dwarf Bowl against Dwarves! A tight slow moving cage is the game that dwarves excel at - both on offense and defence. Unfortunately Undead tend to play a Dwarf bowl style game.

So you have to either alter your tactics and try to play a more mobile running game - risking hand offs etc to keep the ball away from the Dwarves - or try to out Dwarf the Dwarves.

2 Mummies may help here, especially if you can lure the Troll Slayers into rash blocks against the mummies where a push would leave a 1/2 die block, letting you block and foul them out of the game. Remember the troll slayers are one of the softer targets too - and eliminating them means you've got a big strength advantage.

On defence you have to try to stop the dwarves forming a cage - once formed you probably lack the ability to break it down. So, if you've got a kicker, kick deep and then try to flood the area between ball and LoS. Enough pressure and a lucky break and you'll turn him over.

If he does form a cage you'll have to either pin enough of his players that he can't move the cage at all and if he does he exposes the ball carrier. Do this enough and you may work an opening to turn him over.

Alternatively just form a double line and only allow him to advance slowly, praying for a bit of bad luck to let you turn him over.

Also remember that your superior mobility means chucking the ball downfield and turning it into a foot race is a good tactic at times. Make sure this is near the end of the half as you don't want to let him score.

If you keep making draws against dwarf teams you're probably letting him run out the clock (or you are running it out yourself). As soon as he get's the ball and makes his cage make sure he wants to score a.s.a.p. hurt his players, foul excessively and do whatever it takes to make him want to run a bit faster.
Try to use your Ghouls to get quicker TD especially when you've got re-rolls left.

Ironically, the one team my Dwarves have never beaten is Undead...

Dwarves are slow, but reliably good at hitting, so don't get drawn into a slug-fest with them, especially if they have a few Guarders around.. Dodging is also a risk as they have tackle, but less of a risk than standing waiting to be blocked so with the exception of your Mummies, do not follow up. Even wights dodge into an empty square on a 3+, so avoid a LOS battle, use mobility and AG to your advantage and, as other have said, foul the AG3 players like hell!! If need be, use Zombies and Skellies as sacrificial lambs to keep ghouls moving.

You'll pick up less casualties than the opposition, but you should win 2-1... :-?
