Chaos Dwarves vs. Khemri - advice appreciated

Post by Halskov1 »

I coach the following CD team:

1 CDB 4329 + MB +Guard
2 CDB 4329 + MB
3 CDB 4329
4 CDB 4329
5 CDB 4329
6 CDB 4329
7 Bull 6429 +Block
8 Bull 6429 + Break Tackle
9 Hgob 6337
10 Hgob 6337
11 Hgob 6337
12 Hgob 6337

RR=2 Apo=yes

They are playing the following Khemri team:

1 Mummy 3519 + Guard
2 Mummy 3518 + Guard -AV
3 Mummy 3519
4 Mummy 3519
5 Blitz-Ra 6328 + Guard
6 Blitz-Ra 6328
7 Thro-Ra 6328 + Leader
8 Thro-Ra 6328 + Block
9 Skel 5327
10 Skel 5327
11 Skel 5327
12 Skel 5327
13 Skel 5327

RR=2+1(leader)

We have played the first half with me recieving and ended up tied 0-0 with a very surprising zero CAS and zero knock-outs!

I was pretty pessimistic before the game, but decided that the road to victory was to take my chances with 1-die blocks or 2-against if necessary to get the mummies off their feet and then foul them with the hobgoblins, especially the -AV one. Some went according to plan, the blocks worked and let me retain the initiative for most of the half, but unfortunately my three fouls didn't. Nearing the end of the half my pessimistic vision of the match almost came to be as his mummies were able to tie down my little troopers in a slugfest they were bound to loose. Fortunately the half ended right about there (it was speeded up by a riot) with both of us unsuccesfully trying to score with players that weren't meant to pick up or throw footballs.

My question is what do I do? Second half is looming in the near future with him recieving. Any good advice?

(I realise my guard player is key in getting good blocks, and that the MB dwarf should have been a guard too, but that doesn't help me in my current predicament)

Be patient. Avoid the temptation to stack the LOS and go toe to toe. A slugfest is only advisable once you have the CAS advantage. Instead, make sure you get player's back to protect the ball carrier (move them back to where the ball lands, even before you make the pick up--a failed pickup with no support will be your doom). If you can, try to get a hobgob downfield on turn 1 or 2 to stretch the field.

It's difficult to actively matchup with 4 ST 5 players on your turn, so don't try. Tie the mummies up with dwarves and use you centaurs and remaning players to work open gaps down the flanks.

Ideally, you will see a hole open up as the Khemri try to penetrate your first line of blockers. If you see the gap or find that the Khemri are not balanced to one side of the pitch, advance your ball carrier into there with atleast a half-cage. Get a hobgob in front of the ball carrier in turn 3 or 4 and when the inevitable Khemri pressure comes close to breaking your cage, handoff or short pass to your downfield hobgob for a quick burst and score. Ideally, you can drag it out to atleast turn 5 before scoring, but if you see the opportunity, take the TD.

Because of the skill divide, you are far better off scoring and then passively soaking up a Khemri advance than trying to outbash him to start the half.

Khemri are one of the only teams that really force the chaos dwarves to "play the ball", but remember the AV 7 on his skellies will be telling. Protect your hobgoblins, whilst pounding his throw ra's and skellies, and you might be able to pull ahead on cas.

....play the ball

As warpstone said: stall for your TD, but take it when it's there. Even with 4 turns, khemri will be rushing (relatively) to score. If you still have a strong defensive line, you should do ok.
good luck

He's got to have at least 3 skellies on the pitch, pick on them. I wouldn't mess with his mummies or blitz-ras at all. Just go after his skellies and throw-ras and tear into them. Blitz them with your centaurs if you can. Protect the ball. Move away from the mummies. Don't stall, just take your time setting up the score and when the opportunity comes, stick it in the endzone.

Hi,

As your opponent is going to be receiving, put a minimal 3 guys on the line, make sure your Break Tackle BC can't get blitzed by the mummies - which leaves him free to try and break through when the oppportunity arises.

Beat up on any skellies you can - including the Blitz-Ra if they're what are exposed.

You should find that giving ground slowly and picking on any of the lower AV opposition eventually gives you an exploitable gap. An agressive, but non-slugfest defence is the way to go...

Not that I play either Dwarves or Khemri mind... lol

Once again Mo's Marauders clear the field. Can anyone stop them? This reporter doesn't think so!

Thanks for the advice. I was killed in the second half though. One Bull killed, the other injured (-AV). A kick-off Blitz for the undeads turned my bid for a draw into a 0-2 loss. A Khemri Blitz can be brutal. He tied up the majority of my team in mummy bandages and pounded them off the pitch for the reamainder of the half (the first Bull was already fouled off in the first drive).

Well, some you loose, and some you loose a little bit more :)

That's a horrible result. You'd better start saving to replace that Bull Centaur asap.
