starting a DE team.

Next season I'll be playing a Dark Elf team in our League in Bruges here, and I'm still doubting on the exact roster. This is my latest idea;

4 blitzers
1 runner
6 linies

2 RR

so no FF, cheers, assistants nor apo. Idea is to purchase the witches as fast as possible.

Opinions? ideas? tips?

Yours,
El Hombre

It's not bad. I usually start with fewer blitzers and more rerolls. But DE do best when they have all 4 blitzers. Just don't let them hog all the SPPs. Skill up some linemen as well.

Buy the Apothecary first. You're gonna want him. Elves are expensive to replace. After that, I'd buy the witches.

Depends a little on your league & intentions (i.e fun vs winning).

Winning or bashy league:

400 4 Blitzers
290 7 linos
100 2 rerolls
10k to FF or bank towards an apoth.

Fun or low AV league:

180 2 Assassins
300 3 Blitzers
420 6 Linos
100 2 rerolls

Get an apoth first, then Witches in short league or rerolls/bench in long.

forgot something, depending on your play style, but if you want a passing game, get the runner right after the apo. takes him a bit to get SPPs unless you make him your dedicated scorer for a couple of games.

I go with PubBowler's 1st roster and have had lots of success. The one you had was OK too, but seriously, runners can wait. They are nice on a developed dark elf team, on a rookie one they are not.

Have your line elves take turns playing the backfield and making short passes to your blitzers...each one with 1SPP will get a skill if they get the MVP - helps build a balanced team. Remember that a rookie dark line elf is roughly as good at ball pickups and throwing quick passes as a human thrower, don't be afraid to use them as such.

When you've got a lot of skilled line elves and have bought both your witches, THEN a runner would be a great addition.

Go with PubBowlers first team, easily the best setup for dark elves.

4 rerolls
10 lineman
1 blitzer

just save for the apo and then 3 more blitzers. you will be having some skills on the linemen before you have all your blitzers and thats good.

PubBowler's 1st set up is by far the strongest of those listed there, depending on your opposition then other options could work, but that's the best all round line up.

I'd avoid taking runners at all and probably wouldn't bother with assassins unless you were facing lots of low AV blodgers. You should get a apoth asap then get an extra lineman and save for re-rolls.

Once you have 4 re-rolls and at least 12 players, then get witches. Use them mostly as catchers until they get block, they you can start surfing and hitting stuff with them.

I've gone with (and enjoy/recommend):

2 re-rolls
3 blitzers
1 witch elf
7 Linemen

First purchase- Apothecary. next 2nd Witch Elf, finally 4th blitzer.

I've also gone with the line-up PubBowler recommends (start with 4 blitzers.)

If you want to start with a 12th player you pretty much have to go:

2 re-rolls
2 blitzers
10 linemen

I've also considered starting with an Apoth:

2 re-rolls 100
1 Apoth 50
2 blitzers 200
9 linemen 630
20 k in the bank

I don't like the last two as much, because you will want at most 8 linemen on a finished Dark Elf team, and I don't like to start with more than that.

I often go with

1 runner
2 blitzers
8 line
3 rerolls

first purchase is an apo, then the 2 other blitzers, then the witches.

This is a great lineup for me but this is largely because our league is short, only about 8 games in the season, and we start afresh each year. People take a range of teams and I find this lineup starts with enough threats to win early and skills up quickly. Long term you'd want to focus on building the team before bringing in the witches possibly but I think they're the reason to play the team. Early on in our league they run riot.

Next purchases depend on injuries and cash, but as it stands it'll be the other witch this year then the blitzer.

I went with an assassin and a runner rather than the 3rd blitzer and a lino this time around but the runner hasn't been effective enough and the assassin has had one good game (out of 4 so far). I'd definetly go with the blitzer and pick up the runner later next time around.

I'm with Jurals first suggestion 2.
The witch elf is just so good! Or to clarify: A single player with dodge can go a long way towards making your turns a lot less risky. I think that's why wood elfs are so good.

Cheers
Martin

PS, once upon a time I tried something like Stashmans suggestion, but with High Elfs - and I totally tanked

Second that. In a long term league, this looks like the way to go. Good luck :)

I've found Dark Elves can do just fine with 2 re-rolls, to be honest. Especially with the witches having Dodge and the blitzers block.

Once you blodge out the lot of them, that's a lot of re-rolls you won't need. However, once you pick up leap and dauntless, or start making one die blocks, the need for re-rolls will increase.

I don't like starting re-roll heavy because your positionals are so expensive, but it it true, if you are playing a longterm league, you save 100k by starting with your 4 re-rolls (as opposed to starting with 2.)
