Two skills on a Wardancer

I'm coaching the following Wood Elf team:

1 WA 8347 +2 new skills (normal)
2 WA 8347
3 Catcher 9247 +block
4 Thrower 7347 + accurate
5 Line 7347 +block
6 Line 7347 +block
7 Line 7347
8 Line 7347
9 Line 7347
10 Line 7347
11 Line 7346 -AV

RR:2 FF:5 Apo:yes Gold: 50.000

I know the team looks a little strange. It's more or less the first team I ever created and I made some pretty bad development decisions early on. As my playing skills improved and I started doing well with other teams, this team still seemed to stubbornly refuse that they could actually win and insisted on fumbling dodges and passes left and right to keep the teams track record abysmally low.

They recently left a short league with a close 3-4 defeat to Pro-elves. One of the Wardancers ended up scoring all three TD's making a casualty and (fittingly) got the MVP. Although not the most effective distribution of SPP's, it does leave him with two skill increases. Both rolls gave him a normal skill. More than anything the team needs kick, but thats obviously not going to be an option. The next challenge is going to be a very short league with Chaos Dwarves, Pro-elves, Wood Elves and probably a Necro team. But I imagine the team will be ready for new defeats after that :)

So what to give the WD?

High on the list would be Strip Ball, Tackle and Frenzy, and maybe Side Step, but I would be grateful for any advice.

Oh yeah, I have decided to fire the -AV player and take on a Journeyman until I get the cash to buy a new player.

Thanks for reading

Frenzy + either Strip Ball or Tackle, depending on the relative frequency of Sure Hands and Dodge on your opponents.

Don't fire the lino until you can afford another catcher. He's going to get fired soon, why get an AV7 Loner when you can put a disposable non-Loner on the LoS? You want him to be targetted: your opponents will see his low AV, target him for the CAS spps, and that saves your better linos from being blocked! If you get a journeyman, they'll ignore him 'cos your other linos will given them the same SPPs but hurt you in future games.

Frenzy and Sidestep.

Side Step is an absolute must, I would say. Frenzy would be good in the league you mention, and the other skill I like (Dauntless) would not. However, I wonder if Tackle might be the better choice?

Also, I'd consider Jump Up... the league you describe won't be too foul heavy, Normally, I wouldn't put that skill on a Wardancer, but in the league you are about to go into...

So Sidestep and Frenzy is probably best, but I would consider:

Side Step and Tackle.

Side Step and Jump-Up.

In a league with more orcs and Chaos, I'd seriously consider Side Step and Dauntless as well.

I'd go with Frenzy and Tackle. Your going to be going against 3 teams with agility ball handlers who'll be taking dodge, if they don't already come with it. Take the tackle to get them down.

I'm with Jural: Side Step and either Tackle or Frenzy.

i'd go sidestep and strip ball... wardancers are great recoverers with dodge and jump

I'd go side step and strip ball that league looks like its going to be light on sure hands.

and i'd fire the lino and take on a journyman -70k in tv is a good trade off for a loner who is line fodder

Doesn't the journeyman count toward TV when it comes to inducements? You would get the option of not taking him and getting a Star, Merc or other inducement if you thought it would be a better option though.

Otherwise I'm for stripball and tackle-frenzy would be pretty good in that league and although you've got mobile assists to try to ensure the 2ds, i still think it is a risk. I'm not a fan of frenzy without ST4 or lots of guard.

Tackle is a must-lots of dodge in the league and personally i think that stripball should be the first choice for any wardancer-even if you don't use it, its threat is there to make your opo change his plans, be forced to keep his thrower back and go for longer throws etc.

Sidestep is the first choice, dunno if Frenzy would come later as a tactical disadvantage, especially if you are used to score with the WD. Maybe Tackle would be a better choice (the good ol'defending blitzer, and with MA8 makes a lot easier to put down those annoying ball carriers when _they_ are attacking). Strip Ball would also be good, but I would not prefer it to Tackle (must-have for every blitzer-like player I think), and I would consider also Sure Hands for the same motive others are suggesting you Strip Ball: in a league poor of Sure Hand-ers, there will be lots of Strip Ball-ers... think ahead :D

Do this. Against few surehands a sidestep/stripball wardancer is golden.

Normally I'd suggest Frenzy & Side Step.

But in a league with no starting Sure Hands: Strip Ball instead of Frenzy.

How about Tackle and Strip ball. A nasty combination if the opponent does not have sure hands and only dodge.

Third skill would have to be Frenzy to really bring this combo home.

Side step as a protection and 'piss-off' measure.

Frenzy & Sidestep. When you Frenzy your opponents in the crowd, it's handy to have Sidestep, or you're bound to go off the field yourself...

My votes are for tackle and dauntless. Right now you don't really have any way to deal with higher ST players - that would be a way.

It would make you a very versatile player.

The other options (sidestep, strip ball, etc) are fine too; honestly it's tough to go wrong with any of them. But Tackle and Dauntless always work well for me. :)
