Is a pogoer worth it?

Post by Aliboon »

Hello all, is a goblin pogoer worth it?

I've come to the conclusion that 14 players on a gobbo team, with 3 SWs isn't optimal-your're bound to have a player or two CASed out and then even with bribes, you'll end the game short-staffed.

It's ok when you're playing up and can afford the 3 bribes and a couple of Stars to get yourself up to 16 players, but if you haven't got that, you get short numbered and that is a "bad thing".

I reckon that the pogoer is the weakest link of the three SWs I have (the fanatic and loony are worth it imo). He has DP (but then I've been lucky enough to get DP on my loony and on a normal gobbo with sneaky git) and is my quickest player, but I reckon 3+ dodges anywhere with stunty is better (or certainly no worse) than one 3+ leap per turn and non-stunty dodge.

I just don't think he adds enough to my team for one drive and I was gonna can him, but he just got the MVP and skilled up (gave him sneaky git).

Should I can him, or am I missing something and should I play him differently and pick another skill? My team is:

Well with Sneaky git and DP you can just foul every turn with him as he's going to get sent off anyway.

Even unassisted fouls are worth it as if he doesn't break armour them there's no worry about getting sent off.

Personally I like the pogoer above the looney and the Bomber. I find that I tend to keep the Fanatic and Pogoer on roster and just induce chainsaws + bombs. The main reason I do it this way is because those two are the ones that advance fastest and I've found that in a lot of situations the Pogoer is better for fouling than the Chainsaw (which is my primary use for both of those weapons).

It's really down to how you use him, it doesn't sound like you use the Pogoers in a way that's effective. So it might be worth cutting him and just inducing Scrappa occasionally.

Mmm, I really like having an on-roster chainsaw-being able to reroll kick-backs is great.

The bomber though is too much of a risk-I'd much rather induce the accurate Bomber Dribblesnot (although I suppose you could reroll the on-rosters bombing rolls, but that would just eat rerolls).

I think that is the key to getting the most out of a Goblin team. Never found room for the Pogoer, as the Looney and Fanatic are must haves IMO and more than 2 SWs really hurts your numbers late in a game.

The pogoer is the weakest SW on my goblin team in our store league. I should say was, as our league just finished...

My fanatic was just too damn hard for most teams to crack, and kept sowing merry confusion wherever he went. My looney just caused fear wherever he went, as a lot of our league teams had light armoured teams.

My pogoer, however, did nothing. The ONLY reason I keep the guy on my team is because I converted the model and really like how he turned out. If secret weapon were removed, I'd definitely consider him a lot more.

Having said all that, my pogoer DID win me the dungeonbowl game at the Monkeybowl tourney in three turns flat 8)

I agree with this.

And I don't think the pogoer is bad but Scrappa is such a good substitute it makes him marginal.

How did he manage that? Just use his MA and leap to get the score?

And what are the chances of the pogo not being a SW? I recall a thread where Galak indicated there would be a boost for gobbos, but i can't quite remember what it was-i think the bomber was to lose no hands as well?

With both those changes I might keep them on roster, but probably won't to be honest, not unless the other change where Star Players can take you over 16 players for the game comes in anyway.

I think I will can him then (unless things change), cheers for the input-just a shame he got an MVP b4 I decided to do it...

A lucky teleport, and a chest too close to the score line. He passed his first leap over another players nurgle warrior on the way too...
