hey, new to this forum. have begun to discover the wonders of Bloodbowl, and am starting an Orc team. have built my Bltizers and Black Orc already. i was hoping for some advice on my startup team:

1 Black Orc 80K
4 Blitzers 320K
1 Thrower 70K

3 Goblins 120K
2 Linesmen 100K

this comes to 690K. should i change the set-up? like 2 BO and 3 Blitzers, or 3 linesmen and 2goblins?
with my remaining points, how much, Fanfactor/ re-rolls should i buy, and do i need an apothecary?

i'll mostly be playing fun games, which won't be part of a league, but if i get enough friends to start playing then i dunno.

thanks for any advice.

Hello,

welcome to talkbloodbowl.

At the top of the "tactics and team devolopment there is a topic on team rating 100 and 110 teams. Starting team normally start with team rating 100.

Maybe you could take a look at the tips given there.

BTW, a starting roster of orcs should always have four black orcs and four blitzers in my opinion.

Goblins are for later in the game and you do not need that amount of goblins. They are not the "strenght" of the team.

Good luck (not that you need that in Bloodbowl) and have fun (that is all you need in Bloodbowl  )

The general consensus with orc teams seems to be 4 Blitzers, 4 Black Orcs, 1 Thrower and 2 linemen, plus 3 rerolls. That's what I've taken in the small league I'm playing in and it's definitely the optimum starting roster. However, if your just playing one off games for now, you can have a little more fun by trying out the troll and goblins. The former seems to find it's way into most peoples' teams after a while, the latter are very much optional.

Incidentally, if you search over the last few months, there's an abundance of orc tactic articles, particularly defensive ones and skill progressions. They should give you lots of food for thought.

Enjoy!

I would agree with the 4 BOBs, 4 Blitzers as being vital.
And three linos or 2 linos & a thrower make you more likely to win.

But if you insist on gobbos you could do worst than go with:

4 BOBs
4 Blitzers
4 Gobbos
3 rerolls
20k banked or 2 FF

Another question from a newbie Orc player: with the 4-4-2-1 starting roster, who usually goes on the line of scrimmage? All four BOBs or both lineorcs with a BOB escort?

Two BOB and a lineorc as point for the first drive. If you find that you're getting a significant player advantage after a drive or two, you may want to start putting more players there, to sacrifice later mobility for more initial hits.

When you eventually get a troll, he replaces the lineorc for most setups.

You can actually get away with 3 BOBs if you don't mind playing deep defense: stick them all on the line and protect the corners and inside linebacker spots (where the opponent will blitz) with Blitzers. However, if you have 4 BOBs (probably the best bet), put two on the line as ends and one lineman in the middle. The other two BOBs should either go inside the wide zone to soak up the blitz, or on the corner to force the opponent inside. Then, when you hire a Troll, stick him on the nose (that is, the guy in the middle on the line) in place of the lineman and every drive your opponent will have to make tough choices.

Yep. 4 BOBs, 4 Blitzers. Give them a lot of stand firm. Drives your opponants nuts not being able to move them even when they get knocked down.

I like

4bob
4blitz
throw
troll
gob

1rr
9ff

after first game get apothecary,

I like this set-up because

I'm not wasting money on linemen,
the list is DEAD hard for a starting roster
has enough ff to bring in the cash.
has a re-roll I find I never need them, I'm just careful & play the odds, remember you have alot of muscle.
The goblin is there to follow the troll around and help stop him being really stupid.

I assume this is for a previous rule set (not LRB5) due to the high FF.
Starting with a FF of 9 is a long way from optimal in LRB5.

Starting with only one reroll has always been non-optimal.

The standard team in the box is:
2 Blitzers,
2 Black Orc Blockers,
2 Throwers
6 Linemen
3 Re-Rolls
6 FF

This team set-up is very forgiving and often overlooked. It stems from the days where fan factor was more important, but it will still affect the kick-off table.
I would suggest taking this as a template and seeing what it would mean to trade in 5 FF for an apothecary or 2 lineman and the 6FF for 2 positionals.

Since you are a beginning player I strongly recommend 2 throwers. You don't have to throw the ball with them but since they don't have a lot of speed going for them it's good to have two back fielders who can pick up the ball in turn one.

Also for more important for a beginning player with Orcs than for a more seasoned player, don't trade in re-rolls for positionals.

Strange, I would consider risking your expensive players by being forced to put them on the line a waste of money. Also they have AG3 and can handle the ball just as good as blitzers.

Orc Linemen are a bargin, and I don't know why people don't like them. I suppose because compared to Blitzers they are a bit damp, but even so they can hold the line better then any other Linemen in the game.

Bar Dwarf Blockers, of course.

If you like Trolls...

4 BOB
4 Blitzer
1 Troll
1 Thrower
1 Lino
2 RR
1 FF

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|-- -- BO TR BO -- --|-- -- -- --
-- -- BZ --|-- BO -- -- -- BO --|-- BZ -- --
-- BZ -- --|TH -- -- -- -- -- LM|-- -- BZ --
The two Blitzers nearest the sidelines (cornerbacks) get Stand Firm, followed by your choice of Tackle, Guard, MB and Frenzy. The other two (outside linebackers) get Guard, followed by your choice of Frenzy and Tackle. The BOBs open with Block, then Stand Firm (the first ones to skill become your inside linebackers, leaving the rookies on the line as ends); the Troll opens with Guard, then Stand Firm. The safeties can develop in more ways: I usually build my first Thrower with Accurate and either Leader or Block, but not always, while the Lineman can go for Dirty Player, Kick, or some other toolbox G skill.

This defense is great. Leads to a lot of 4-0 wins, as the opponent can't find an opening after just a few games, no matter how hard they knock. Short fields are good when you're MA4-6 and AV9.

I think the key to orcs is to start with as much of your "Final Team" as possible, then to minimize your risk early. You want to "out develop" the other teams, as you start with a better roster generally. To that end, I use:

3 re-rolls

3 blitzers
3 black orcs
2 throwers
3 linemen

5 Fan Factor

I've also used a 1 thrower, 4 linemen, 1 coach, 1 cheerleader lineup.

First purchase- Apoth.

Second Purchase- Blitzer

Third Purchase- Blocker

fourth Purchase- Troll

Fifth purchase- Goblin (drop a linemen if none have died

sixth purchase- 4th re-roll if necessary.

To get the troll, you will have needed to earn 330k, which should be doable by 6-7 games if you win half your games and win FF in half. A coach who wins every game and every FF can expect a full team in a mere 5-6 games (with no deaths)
