Inducements for Ogre Team?

Post by Gronlokk »

Hi Ogre fans,
first of all I'd like to tell you, I am very happy I found this awesome forum. I've been a fan of Blood Bowl for many years now (since the 2nd edition), but actually I haven't been playing a lot of games, because of a lack of time and opponents.
Recently I joined a league and started an Ogre team. Thus far my W/L/D-record is 1/3/2 with the victory being from a match when my opponent didn't show up.
My next match is going to be against some of those annoying Dark Elves, that have been around for 2 complete seasons. They have a TV of 2.260.000 against my TV of only 1.340.000. I'd like your advice on what inducements I should purchase. The huge difference makes me a tiny bit nervous. I was thinking along the lines of 3 Re-Rolls and perhaps Morg 'n' Thorg. What do you think?
My team consists of 6 Ogres:
1: +Guard, +Break tackle
2: +Break tackle
3: +Guard, +Break tackle
4: +Guard
5: +Block
13: no SPP thus far
I can field 6 Snotlings without any increases, an apothecary and have only 2 Re-Rolls.
Thanks a lot,
Gronlokk

P.S.: I apologize for any spelling or grammar mistakes. I'm afraid English is not my first language.

:D

I havent played that much with Ogre's but you cant go wrong with those extra Re-rolls!
Maybe an extra apothecary in case anythig goes wrong with one of the big guys.
Aside that, Morg is cool.
Nobbla Blackwart might help too.

You surely know the game plan is to wipe the floor with the Elfs and then think about the ball so good luck!!!

Dont forget to update us after the game!
Cheers

Welcome!

Nobbla would be good to take out his blodgers, with at least a bribe, if not two or three. Merc snots with Diving Tackle might be useful, although very expensive compared to an on-team version and as snots are so fragile, they would likely be blocked out the game pretty sharpish.

Some more rerolls would be useful too and possibly a wizard.

A/ get the numerical advandtage to 1 elf for 2 ogre ( take the kik of and foul as often as possible
B/ Get the hand on the ball

mY CHOICE
1/ Bribe
2/ Star player "ogre w/snot"
3/reroll
3/ maybe some cards

I'd go for power. Looks like you'll have 920 for inducements.

LRB5:
290 Brick Farth & Grotty
430 Morg
50 Scrappa
100 Nobbla
50 Bludweiser Babes

That gives you 8 Ogres and 3 Star stunties that can be used for cannon fodder.

Nobbla is for chainsaw and then fouling.
Scrappa is for fouling, but he makes a great thrown teammate.

But since you can only field two star players if you follow the rules in living rulebook 5 that's not an option. I can certainly see the temptation with having both Brick Far'th n Grotty and Morg plus 5-6 regular ogres but that will lead to a tactic where the dark elf will take out your snotlings ASAP, to make sure you will have no natural ball carrier. 7-8 Ogres will sue scare the Dark Elf coach and will probably make sure that the only block opportunities you will ever get is with your few remaining snotlings and you'll only get that 1 blitz per turn to do something with all those ogres. A Dark Elf team that good has dodge on most of his players so to dodge away from your ogres will not be that hard. So I think that Nobbla and Morg or Brick Farth (pick the one you like most) would be a more wise choice, saving you some money to buy rerolls for, because you will surely need 2 (or 3) more rerolls to be a reasonably trustworthy team with all those boneheads.
If you do pick Nobbla, make sure to buy a bribe or two and stay away from or take out his Assassin before he takes you out...

This is at least what I would do based on my experience with my ogres. As someone said, you can never have to many rerolls when you're playing ogres...

So the game is set for today. That makes me a little bit nervous. I think I am going to field Morg and Nobbla (if my opponent allows me to use the miniature for a human or dwarf chainsaw wielding player, as I haven't got the Nobbla miniature yet). 3 or 2 extra-Re-Rolls and maybe a bribe and if there is enough money for inducements left a Bloodweiser Babe. I tend to have lots and lots of Ko'd players every drive...
Any last-minute advice?

I would say
530k Nobbla Blackwart & Morg
50k Babes
200k Bribes x2 to keep Blackwart around
100k Reroll

Total 880k, 40k wasted.

Knock Elves down and then foul them with Blackwart. Get rid of his assasins fast if he has them as they will splatter Snots and can have a risk free hit at Ogres if they are next to them.

Also since Morg has AG 3 give him the ball. He can always hand off to a Snot to score later if you need the SPP's.

Well... I picked Morg, Nobbla, 2 re-rolls, 2 Bloodweiser Babes and a bribe. Nobbla was utterly worthless inflicting only one Stunned result before being Badly Hurt by one of the opponents Blitzers in Turn 3. Morg gathered a lot of enemy players which was according to my overall plan. Two of my precious little Snotlings were killed by a blitzers with the Tackle skill.
I won the game 2:1 and got 70.000gp winnings. But there is no reason to congratulate me on the victory, I am afraid. I'm not quite sure why, but my opponent did not play for a victory at all. At one point he even passed the ball to one of my players :)
Whatever... thanks for all your kind advice! The next match will be against the skaven team currently ranked no.1 in the season.
Got to set up a plan for sending those pesky ratmen to the casualties box.

A win is a win, no matter how stupid, weird your opponent are. You gained a couple of SPP's and enough winnings to compensate the loss of two snotlings. No important player lost so all in all it was a pretty good match for you...

Worried? Done be! If your opponant plays silly moves like passing to your players (I mean...why?), and is trying to bash you around then just revell in it!

Ogres excell at bashing other teams off the pitch. If they come to you, then that's very good indeed! Bash, smash and crash them into the CAS box!

And don't worry about losing Snotlings. Just keep replacing them, saving a little bit at a time to buy your next Ogre.
