Leader

I just started a WE team in an open league.
I opted for a tree, 2WD a thrower and 7LElves. That left me with a single reroll.
I'm now on the fence on whether to take leader.
Either on my thrower when she gets her first skill, or on a linelf if I roll doubles(but I would be wasting a guard!), or wait for 100K spare cash and just buy a regular one.
Opinions/suggestions?

you will want an apoth asap making it take even longer to get another reroll
I'd take leader, but then i'd not have started with one reroll ;]

I bought an apoth after my first(only) game. got a skill on a WD(SBall) and FF went up to a stunning 2

Take leader on the thrower asap and I'd probably aim to buy another one. 3 should be enough. Buy the apoth first, then a reroll then start buying players.
With the players replace your existing positionals - but don't buy more line elves. If you get enough cash keep with 1 tree, 2 WDs, 1 thrower and as many catchers as you can keep.
Once you've got all those positionals then you can start thinking about a fourth reroll or more line elves/2nd thrower.

I always see Leader as one of the weak skills in the game. However on some teams (like those with only one re-roll) it is worthwhile to take it.
If you are lucky enough for a line-Elf to roll Double before the Thrower skills up I would put it on them. You can always replace Line-Elves later in the League when you do have some spare cash an have enough Team Rerolls.

Ok, I'm convinced.
I'll take the leader skill, even though I agree that it's a weak skill.
I'm not entirely convinced that it's worth wasting a double on a lineElf to get it though...
and I'll cry a little bit when I retire a 90K player just because I've got enough 100K rerolls. But that's the deal I've given myself eh?
and.._all_ the 4 catchers? are they really _that_ good considering their STR2?

Oh yes. The MA9 makes them incredible threats at all times, especially after they get a few skills.

Don't take it on doubles unless you get a whole rush of them, because you'll want two or three Guarders (both outside LBs and a noseguard if you don't get a Tree) as a first priority.
Catchers are also good because you can pass to them with increased security, letting you spread out more comps. This is a bigger deal with High and Pro Elves, though, as Woodies can score in two turns with any linebacker or DB.

Woody catchers are good (at the mo'....), well worth it. I'd probably get the 4th reroll b4 getting the 4th catcher (assuming you can ever save up that much-woodies will suffer high player turnover and you'll be doing well to ever get to 4 catchers imo).

So I take it you dont use the latest version of the LRB, where WE catchers have got their mv reduced to 8?

That's experimental just now, not official.

I don't start with the thrower, but that is an ok start in my mind.
If you are getting the thrower to start then I do suggest Leader as the first skill on him. My personal favorite skill for my thrower of sure hands does not work in this roster as well. I get mine after I have developed all the recievers and need some on to get the ball and throw it to them. You will want the Leader skill to simulate sure hands or use eleswhere.
I would Never take Leader on a lineelf with doubles. Take the 2nd thrower with pass for 20k more and get a 20k skill [leader] and be way ahead in my opinion.
70k + 30k = 100k (Line elf with doubles skill)
90k + 20k = 110k. the thrower with Pass as well for 10k more is a much better deal.
Especially as guard linemen are so good. (Or Mighty Blow linemen I had two block + claw line elves in the MBBL.) <darkson rolls over in his grave>
Buy the apoth asap. Then get the 2nd team re-roll. Then replace dead line-elves with catchers...
that is my opinion.

sorry for the double post, but I wanted to adress this too.
You will never need to retire that 90k player for having enough re-rolls in my experience.
You'll just gain another LOS fodder guy who will have skills your opponent will have to worry about. And save a line-elfs life eventually. Alternatively, I would turn him into the deep passing option player and have him sit on the bench as much as possible. (only needed for the OTS drive or late game replacement)
I play 4 catchers too. Pre-move reduction. And I will probably still carry 4 once our rosters convert or I start a new team.
Yes I do get an OTS specialist who sits out as much as possible. And I strive to only field 2 on defense when ever possible. But they are really , really good players, even at st 2. (and even at st 2 move 8 with sprint.)
I know, all this talk about having a catcher or two sitting on the bench plus a thrower on the bench. with woodies. But it is a goal to shoot for. I used to have 14 player rosters...

Thanks for all the advice
Yes, we play version 4, som the catchers will be MA9, and I bought the apoth after my first game.
I will have all 11 players available in my second match on friday.
Opponents will be Lizards, so I expect a few casualtis
I have a MVP lino, that should get a pass, and I plan to try to give as many players as possible 1 Comp, to spread the skills as much as possible.
I'll also try to score with the linos(failed that last match), the WD's will hog enough SP's just doing their thing.
And considering the bashy nature of the league, I shall use the doubles (if I get any)on linos for guard.
