Newbie Team Advice

Hullo there,
I've recently played my first few games of BB with different teams. Now I want to buy my own team but haven't picked one yet.
I'll be playing in a league or tournament with quite some bashy teams (or at least I think they are: orc, undead, dwarfs, chaos, human or dark elfs).
All in the hands of experienced players.

Will I stand somewhat of a chance when playing with Pro Elf, Skaven or Amazons?

Welcome to the forum.

Any of those teams you suggest would compete in that league (i.e. they are all quality teams) but you will lose players (less so with Amazons).

With the journeymen rules and inducements this may not effect your on pitch competitiveness but if you get sentimental over your players you may find it slightly depressing.

Amazons are a fairly bashy team and with only one team on their bogey list (Dwarves) would probably be the most competitive, certainly in a short league, but you should make your decision based on the play style you want to use.

Well thank you, that's good to know.
Considering play style I'd have to go with the quicker teams. Although I can imagine myself mourning the loss of players, I guess I'll have to live with that (ok enough with the drama).
In the meanwhile I'll be devouring all the info I can find here.

If you like running and attacking play, go with the skaven. Sure they break easy, but the gutter runners can do outrageous things :)

Pro Elves make a great 2nd team. Start with something that relies less on weird skills (Skaven, perhaps), learn your way around with them, and then go to Pro Elves and learn just how disgusting Side Step en masse and 4x Nerves of Steel can get.

To date, Skaven really is the competitive team that I have had the most fun with. As already stated, the Gutter Runners can do insane things, especially with a few skills. As long as you have a few GRs on the pitch, you can still score.

But once in a while you will lose a bunch of players in a single game, resetting the team a bit. But that's how it goes with Skaven. Go all out. If it works, you win by a margin. If not, you lose badly.

If you search through this forum, you'll find tons of advice on Skaven. If you have questions, ask away.

Baduk - any of the teams you mention would do fine against the opponents you mention. The agility teams typically perform quite well against the bashy teams, which are often more bark than bite.

Just pick a team that you like the look and feel of and see what happens.

For what it's worth, I regard the Pro-Elves as the most high powered of all teams in a league (I stopped playing them because I felt they were too good, giving me no challenge).

Og those three I'd go with Skaven. They are fun to play, their relatively low cost means that replacing them when they get broken is possible, and if you go without the Rat Ogre you can start with a thrower, two blitzers, four runners and three rerolls, which´is a decent team right out of the box.

Pro elves have a lot of potential, but they are more likely to face a tough start, and picking your starting roster presents much greater challenges.

Starting a Pro-Elf roster is not a challenge from where I sit.

2 Blitzers
2 Catchers
1 Thrower
6 Linos
3 Re-rolls

With 5 positional players (4 of them outstandingly good) and 3 re-rolls, this is a potent starting roster. Buy an Apothecary first, and take Leader as the first skill on the Thrower, to give you a 4th re-roll and an unstoppable counter-attack.

There's also something to be said for starting only 2 RRs and either a third Catcher (10k banked) or an Apoth. Go down so much as one Catcher from two in turn 1, and you're toast. With a couple Catchers and a couple SS'ers, though, you can skill everyone pretty much at will (this is only slightly less true with High Elves).

Have you thought about High Elves? That extra AV on linos and throwers is just about worth the TRR and 4 skills you spend getting it, says this Pro Elf coach, who just played his first game with High Elves and really likes the toughness of their linos. I'm enjoying the Zen of a mostly-lino team, which I'd never do with Pro Elves. We're playing a preseason to get new coaches' feet wet and build up some skilled players for a draft, and I took 8 linos, 1 Thrower, 2 Blitzers and 3 TRRs and had no problem keeping my guys on the field against a moderately bashy Necro team (I counted eleven AV rolls of 8, which sounds crazy, as there were only about 45 AV rolls made on my guys all game, so it statistically should have been about seven 8s; unfortunately, two of those 8s were from a Were, who SI'ed a lino). The coach wasn't great (kind of new, trying to figure out firsthand why I kept telling him Undead was a better place to start), but I was helping him beat me up to the best of my ability, and he was knocking my guys down ok.

You could also do an all-lino Woody team. 11 linos, 4 TRRs, 30k banked?
