Gobbos. Keeping TV down.

Post by Ikterus »

Have started a Gobbo team (LRB6)

I'm pleased with the results. Have acctually won a few games!

Now however my TV is starting to rise and I find it very difficult to play when not getting any inducements.

After the last game I fired a 2 skill gobbo (diving tackle + side step) and my bombardier.

Now I'm at TV 108.

The team:
5 unskilled gobbos
2 goobos w diving tackle
Troll w guard and break tackle
Troll w break tackle
Fanatic w MB
Looney w dodge
Pogoer +AG (great)

What to do in the future? Is firing gobbos that fail to roll doubles the way to go?
Hire more gobbos?
What skills to choose?

I'm sure that there are tons of tacticas around so please point me towards them.

Thanks.

What TV are the others in your league.

I'm running a Gobbo team in an LRB6 league right now and I'm desperate to keep my TV at least 27 lower than everyone else (Ripper) and started the team with that in mind.

I don't have any of the Secret Weapons (I think they're good but don't have the available TV yet) and use the Stars if I have spare inducements (I think I refer Dribblesnot over the rostered bomber in anycase, unless you get a double for HMP no advance is really worth it).

The fact I have 300k in my bank probably describes the tactic as much as anything...

It's MBBL ;)

That's been my plan. I started out with no SW. Ripper is great!

Yep. Should have sacked the bomber earlier...

The others are great though. 40K(?) for a chainsaw is a bargain. The pogoer is a potential game winner. The Fan is fun and soak up alot of abuse.
It hurts however to have three palyers that only last one drive...

Sounds like we're on the same page!

And I agree the saw and pogoer are worth it.
Top of my list when the TV rises in the league.

The Fanatic, I'm not so sure of.

Fun and can genuinely advance with good skills (Grab, Mighty Blow etc) but Ripper is better value for the TV (4 drive games are the norm so that's Fungus & rostered fanatic plus two bribes), more resilient (more likely to last a drive, maybe not a game though), more reliable, TTM etc etc.

So, when do you sack a gobbo that doesn't roll doubles?

And what skills do you use? I have yet to get a DP as I need every body on the pitch (and use the chainsaw to foul when I get the chance to do so)

Due to injuries and the early stage of the league I haven't been at a stage when sacking goblins is even a consideration.
And when I do have 2nd skill goblins I guess that the other teams will have a hive enough TV for me not to have to worry about it.

But, I appreciate, the MBBL is different in this regard.

The (what I consider) the usual suspects:

Diving Tackle
Side Step
Jump Up (good for TTM)
Block/Wrestle/Sure Hands/Guard on doubles

I don't favour building a goblin team for fouling (beyond chainsaw).

Hi Ikterus,
you asked me for a comment or 2, so here are my 2 cents:
Please note I was gobbo king back in the day, but that was before the LRBs, so very different rules. Since then I've played gobbos with a house rules (buffed) roster, so my comments might not be all that useful.

That being said.
I can understand TV dumping in a fixed or small league, so you stay behind the opposition.
But in a huge league like the MBBL, with lots of bigger teams, I wouldn't cut as aggressively!

What you need is to figure out how much is the inducement "sweet spot", i.e. when do you benefit the most from inducements. I figure its 320K down. Ripper + 1 bribe sounds good. Inducing SWs may seem tempting, but having lots is just bad on a team that also bleeds players due to AV7 + stunty.

I think I'd stick to the (non-SW) pogo and the saw. Being able to tap into rerolls is crucial on a saw. But I gotta say I love a bomber who can use rerolls too. I think its awesome.

Cheers
Martin

Just had a clear out of niggled players using up a chunk of treasury.

None of them had SPPs but I thought it might prompt a discussion on when to fire gobbos with what injuries.

Any opinions?

I'm 'lucky' enough to not have to. they tend to die off far too quickly in my leagues.

Except for #13. The little git got almost every injury possible (from memory, -2AV, -1ST, and 4 niggles). I kept him on roster purely out of a morbid fascination, wanting to see when he'd finally die.

The league ended before he could kick it. He's now part of our 'league legend' as the most tenacious player of all time.

Realistically, I'd not fire a gobbo for getting a Niggle, or -1AV, but I'd fire any gobbo who got other injuries (as soon as I could afford to replace them). I'd also fire any gobbo who get's 2x Niggle or 2x -1AV.
