New Ork Player Needs Some Help

I am off to a bit of a rough start in my local league. I foolishly listened to various online sources when starting my team and I am a bit short on positional players. My current roster is as follows:

3 Black Orcs (with 1 cas between the 3 of them, people fall over but refuse to get hurt)
2 Blitzers (One with Blodge, one with no spp)
4 Line Orcs
1 Thower (+ accurate)
2 Gobbos (one -1 MV mng)
3 RR
6 FF
Apoc (who saved a BO from death last game)
20k Banked

Currently I am the slowest team in the league and am 0-2 with 1 TD.
Other players are Humans, Skaven, and Wood elves.

My current plan is to add more Blitzers as soon as money comes down from Nuffle, but that and CAS has been hard to come by.

I have been on the short end of some bad dice (and on the receiving end of some hot dice... last game I suffered 2 CAS and had 4 guys KO'd... never seen so many box cars and double tens...)

Any help you all could provide would be nice.

6FF? That leads me to ask what rules-set you use. If it's LRB5, you've been advised very very badly, and you should never again listen to whatever crazy stupid joker told you to buy FF when you had Blitzers left to take (then kick yourself for listening). In an earlier rules-set, it's not so terribly bad (just not good). In a very long season, it can even balance out under most pre-LRB5 rules-sets. The Orc Lineman is a quality speed-bump, you know. It's just that he's on a team with 15 positionals and real blocker-types.

Buy Blitzers as soon as possible, you know that. Fire the -MA Goblin. Try to score twice with each Blitzer: designate unskilled guys as your receivers until you have a skill on everybody. Don't replace dead linos, but do replace BOBs and maybe your last Goblin should they go down and you have all your Blitzers. Once you've got two more Blitzers, buy a Troll and a BOB as convenient. In LRB5, you'll want to keep your roster down to 13 so you can thrive on inducement cash. In earlier editions, this is not true. It's a speedy league, so you don't need a lot of Guard.

Tackle on Blitzers is critical in your context. Every other team in the league has players with Dodge, so you need players with Tackle. It's too late now, but the Dodge Blitzer wasn't the best idea. Side Step would have kept him from allowing easy dodges when pushed, while ignoring the double and taking Tackle would help you bog opponents down. If the Rats aren't into a RO, or if you can neutralize it, Stand Firm makes a good follow-up to Dodge (when it happens; don't force it). Get another Stand-Firm Blitzer eventually, as a pair of SF guys can be hard for Skaven (in particular) to deal with unless they have a RO with Juggy, and even then they have a 1/6 to lose their blitz. Woodies can be forced to Leap in this manner, and that too is a good way to beat an opponent.

Is it a long season? If so, you can recover. in cash-happy 3rd edition, you can recover quickly, and at some point you'll be trying to cope with money-glut.

It is 5th ed... I think I was reading articles mostly on 3rd and fourth ed at the time, didn't realize the folly of my ways until it was too late. The season will go on indefinitely (at least that is the plan), so I have time to recover some what.

Hmmm... I don't know if I'd start over or not.

No advice here. 4 Blitzers is spectacularly important for an Orc team.

I would start over as you're only gonna lose 2 skills total....

4 blitzers
4 blorcs
1 thrower
1 goblin
1 troll
2 rerolls
2 ff

If you want more rerolls, trade in the troll... though I love my really stupid, always hungry, unreliable liability....

You need 4 Blitzers as soon as possible. They are the speed of the team, as well as coming with Block.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, Digger's right. Starting with 4 Blitzers gives you scary wide zone games, and having 4 BOBs and a Troll means you dominate the inside, bar nothing.

Sack the -MA goblin. Buy the remaining two blitzers asap, then the bob, then the troll (normally I'd say BOBs first, but in that league you need the blitzers more).

Skills on the players you do have are fine. BOBs are slow to skill (everyone knows this). So you need lucky MVPs & luck cas.

I suspect the choice of accurate on your thrower underlines the real problem - you are passing the ball! With Orcs only Pass when massively ahead, losing badly, or when out played.

I'd probably try to score with the blitzer on 0 spps twice to get some tackle and maybe try to get the thrower up to 16 for block.

The thrower has had an odd, red-line defense kind of mentality... in the 2 games I have played he has been able to get his hands on the ball (once in my own end zone) and huck the thing clear to the LoS, costing the other team a TD. There has also been a lot of giving him the ball, having him pass to a line man before he cages (for a spp) and having the lineman hand the ball back to him when he gets there.

See, I see the Orc QP game as a way to distribute TDs (and thus SPPs) most effectively, so I think Accurate on an Orc thrower is a good idea. But I'd be really hesitant to throw even a short pass unless it was my only chance to score.

It's amazing what Orc's can do, mine wont hurt anything, but dodging and passing, no problem!
