New League + New Team

My local league will be starting soon and I need to start thinking of a new team to play, I've previously & successfully (having won the league with all, bar the humans who came in 2nd behind my Chaos) run Orcs, Chaos, Necromantic and Human teams, so I'd like to try a new team.

I prefer to play a runing game with a throwing option and I'm unsure of what team to pick, something reasonably fast, a bit like Praetorrians from Chaos league, though Armour 7 and I tend not to get on :(

Two Chaos pact, One Orc and possibly a Slaan have already signed up.

So what do you guys think?

Another recommendation for Dark Elves. Pro Elves are too good, if you're known as the champion. Recommend them to somebody on his way up.

You could also go for Goblin-heavy Orcs. Start with 4 Goblins, 1 Thrower, 4 Blitzers, 2 BOBs, 1 Troll and 3 TRRs, and just make a commitment always to field two Goblins. If it helps, don't buy any linos ever: just an Apoth, a Thrower and two BOBs. The great thing about Orc teams is there are like six million ways to play them.

We're allowed two teams per coach in the league, (mainly so I can play a game every week without unbalancing the league :D) & I was toying with the idea of one 'serious' and one 'fun' team. How would Vampires be for the 'Fun' team?

Pro Elves are way too good if you're already winning with other teams.

Ogres or an all-snotling team, there is your challenge! :) It's great fun and if played correctly actually possible to win with...

Two teams? Ok, Pro Elves can be one of them. Vampires are a good way to have a good time without messing too hard with the balance of your league.

Vampires are not fun! It's maschocistic!

Once you think you can win, you fail bloodlust and loose the game. It's fustrating!

You will se the vamps as very good when bloodlust works! Then you get angry and call your opponent a "lucky man".

And you get headache every time you play them, always something to think about: where to put my thrall, shall I really try and move that vamp, damn my reroll has gone - I'm stuck at moving vamps!

I have played them for 14 games in our league 6 win, 2 tie and 6 loss. This season I'm 2 win, 1 tie and only 1 loss (playing two vamps, one human and a orc team)

Once you play vampire you will think alot diffrently than playing easier teams.

I have a hate-love feeling for vampire

Goblins are more of a funny team! Never, ever expect yourself to win with them!

Not to hijack the topic, but... really ? Pro Elves too good ? :?:

Anyway: You might go for gobbo's, flings or Underworld. I do like that last team, they have some kind of potential anyway.

MBBL have them 2nd only to Wood Elves right now.

Worse in tournies according to NAF data but that is a different conversation.

Hmmm....

I'm quite liking the Dark Elves idea, relatively fast, AV8 and AG4 for a change.

Ideas for a second team consist of Vampires, Chaos Pact, Necromantic, Chaos Dwarves.

Any thoughts on those?

Having 2 tier 1 teams shouldn't unbalance the league as each team can only play twice a month and you can only have one team in the play-offs. Allowing two teams is there to cater for those who want to play more and not advance too quickly.

Pro-Elves are not at their best in a tournament because they start without Dodge.

However, in a league of any length, I would rate them as the best BB team.

They have the best offense in the game (because of Nerves of Steel). Relative to Wood Elves or High Elves they are "mini-maxed", with cheaper linos, outstanding Blitzers and Catchers, and a lower TV. Compared to Wood Elves they are better organised for 5th and 6th Eds. The Catchers become the blitzers, the Blitzers become very annoying blockers. If you were to redesign Wardancers for 5th/6th Ed., you would give them Wrestle rather than Block. Whereas Block/Sidestep/AV8 makes the Pro-Elf Blitzers ideal blockers (not blitzers).

Pro-Elves can also start a league with 3 Re-rolls (WE and HE teams normaly start with only 2), which re-inforces their violent counter-attacking style. Catch/NoS on a Catcher built as a Blitzer is an outstanding combination, as when a player of this type sacks the opposing ball carrier, he often also catches the bouncing ball in the scrum. Catch/NoS also means that the Pro-Elves can often score immediately the ball is popped loose.

So the Pro-Elves have the best of both worlds, an outstanding offense (surely the best) and the best, or equal best, counter-attacking defence.

Hope this helps.
