6,4 AV, MA, Skill Advice - Dwarf
Ok, I have gotten a skill up on my Dwarf Guard Longbeard as a second skill rolled 6,4.
This brought a hard choice to my mind. For this position and for others also.
So lets tackle the roll, then others who might make the roll.
1. How much benefit is going from AV 9 to AV 10?
I am sure its been answered before.
2. On a Dwarf Blocker, looking at surviving long, long term, which one.
3. The other positions:
Runner (think take the MA everytime.)
Blitzer
Troll Slayer
4. Is there ever a time to take the AV over the MA on a dwarf team?
Then on the roll of 6,5? Who should not take the AG upgrade on the dwarf team? I thinking Blockers would be better off not taking it, and maybe the Troll Slayers.

On the Blocker I would take a skill over AV and MA - and never AG.
MA6 Troll Slayers are pretty useful.Tripleskull wrote: On the slayer I would take skill or AV, biased towards AV - But skip the AG.
Really extends the range of their Blitz.
+1AV is handy but the main reason I lose TS is fouls and Claw. It doens't really help in those instances.

I agree.Tripleskull wrote:I would take MA and AG on the runners and the blitzers.
Agree on the AG.On the slayer I would take skill or AV, biased towards AV - But skip the AG.
But I would take the MA. Mainly because it's very good for a frenzy piece to have high MA to avoid those gfi's and because your opponent could miscalculate ("Pfft, that troll slayer won't reach to push me in the crowd..."). On top of that dwarves can really use some extra speed, especially on their "faster" pieces.
I'd only take the AV if he already has a couple of skills or a +STR (protect the investment).
Agreed on the AG. Going from 9 AV to 10 really isn't worth it either. But MA can be great, both on defence and offence (makes cage building easier). I'd prefer it over a skill, but not by much.On the Blocker I would take a skill over AV and MA - and never AG.

I don't have a lot of experience with dwarves (read "next to none") but I have found that with any team that I have played that Movement is always beneficial. I was amazed to notice the difference that the one movement coul dmake to the game!
If for no other reason, do it because it is different and to try it out. Dwarves can always get Guard. Try it this once and see if you appreciate the difference. But at least then you tried it.

I would take +1MA every time on a Runner, Blitzer or Troll Slayer. But on a Longbeard, I'm not so sure.
I took +1MA on a couple of Chaos Dwarfs once (first skill advance in both cases). I regretted it, feeling I would have been better off with boring old Guard.
The other option to consider is +1AV. I gave this once to a Chaos Dwarf, putting him on the line of scrimmage at every opportunity. He died soon afterwards...
Hope this helps.

+MA all the way. This guy then becomes a great safety, either in a conventional format or tucked into a 3-5 directly behind the Stand-Firm Slayer at middle LB. He can make the hit with Tackle, or he can go stand in a key area to assist with Guard, applying his TZ to the carrier or cover-man. This lets you man the wide zones with Blitzers.
If you don't get +MA, then give him Stand Firm and make him your nose tackle.

If you are thinking short term (less than 10 games) then take guard. If you are thinking longterm then take the move.

Thank you guys.
I am still learning how to play the Dwarf team.
I chose AV thinking it would keep me a live longer.
My team right now is:
Troll Slayer 5 3 2 8 Block, Frenzy, Dauntless, Thick Skull, Mighty Blow, Jump Up (19)
Troll Slayer 5 3 2 8 Block, Frenzy, Dauntless, Thick Skull, Mighty Blow, Juggernaut (20)
Blitzer 5 3 3 9 Block, Thick Skull, Guard (13)
Blitzer 5 3 3 9 Block, Thick Skull, Mighty Blow, Piling On (18 )
Runner 6 3 3 8 Sure Hands, Thick Skull, Block (6)
Runner 7 3 3 8 Sure Hands, Thick Skull, Block, +1 MA (29)
Blocker 4 3 2 9 Block, Tackle, Thick Skull, Guard (9)
Blocker 4 3 2 9 Block, Tackle, Thick Skull, Guard (6)
Blocker 4 3 2 9 Block, Tackle, Thick Skull, Guard, Stand Firm (16)
Blocker 4 3 2 9 Block, Tackle, Thick Skull (5)
Blocker 4 3 2 9 Block, Tackle, Thick Skull, Guard (7)
Blocker 4 3 2 10 Block, Tackle, Thick Skull, Guard, +1 AV (16)
My Blitzer with Guard was the first person to get a skill up, so I chose Guard.
I am sorry to say a game started before I heard I should have chose MA so it looks like the Blocker is stuck with the AV.
Thank you all for your advice.

Perpetual? Maybe worth it. Get Stand Firm next.
