Double 5 for unskilled ulf in shortish league

Just picked up my first ulf skill, in my second game of a league of probably 12 games max (although I might end up keeping the team for future use...)

With double 5, there's a lot of options - AV and Move both sound good, as do dodge or sidestep. He's up to 13 spps so hopefully the second skill (block) isn't too far off...

Whadya reckon?

I'm not all that familiar with Norse, but for me it's either Dodge or MA.

Wouldn't take Side Step on a player that can take Stand Firm on a normal roll.

ignore it and take Mighty Blow

Either take Dodge (BT next) or SS (Block next), or ignore it and take Block. Unless you have 4+ TRRs. Then take Mighty Blow.

Consider taking the +1MA, to be followed by Break Tackle.

AV9 makes a big diffrence in a norse team

MA7 is nice, but it's much better on a ball-handler. This guy has a progression track: you should only deviate from it if your deviation actually pushes it along. Anything you take for this guy should either be, or double as, Block, Break Tackle, Mighty Blow or Stand Firm. Dodge and SS fit the bill, as does +ST. +MA or +AV, less so. I'd probably take AV over MA on this guy, but either one is at best a #4 selection. Maybe AV as #3 after Block and SS or Block and Dodge.

You forgot to mention the lack of apos in this league Nippy - +1 AV to protect your 110k player?
I'd personally go for either stat increase, then you can decide what to do with him as the next game progresses, see what he becomes good at.

There aren't many skills an Ulf needs other than block, stand firm and mighty blow (especially in a short league), you're only going to get maybe 2 more rolls for him so that's block/mb... a nice stat increase would be tasty

No apoths? :o

Short league? Dodge - once you've got Block you are better protected than you would be with +av and it keeps you on your feet and combos well with pretty much any 3rd skill.

BTW sidestep is a good option on Frenzy players with normal access to stand firm since the repositioning threat means they often don't get hit.

That's especially good against cage teams.

No Apothecary? And somebody's playing something without Regen or AV9? I guess I could see Chaos Dwarfs: the low-AV guys are cheap. But I'd never go Norse....

Oh, as a Dark Elf player, I know that. 8)
But do you really think it's so much better than Stand Firm to take it as your first Double?

Also, I agree, no apothecaries probably makes Dodge the best choice.

I still think that the MA would be nice to turn him into a Witch Elf (or Bull Centaur?) kind of player - a highly mobile player-hunter, especially one for the sidelines. He can even take Juggernaut on normal rolls, after all. With S4, he'd have high chances of knocking down an opponent, or at least have the crowd beat him up if he can't do it.
That would, however, probably be a better plan in a longer league, if at all.

Side Step as he'll soon get Block and on Frenzy players it's far superior to Stand Firm.

PBEM: just take Block first Standfirm / Mighty Blow next ignore the double.
tabletop: take Sidestep much better then Standfirm here.

For PBEM Stand Firm >> SideStep ;) atleast thats my opinion

Side step I think. Makes it easier to put people off the pitch by crowd surfing them.
