Ogre Development

Hi there.
Just got an interresting Problem with my Ogre Team and i am not 100% sure how to solve it.

My Team:
1 Ogre - Block, New Skill
2 Ogre - +1 MA Rolled 6,4 at skillup
3 Ogre - Break Tackle, +1 MA
4 Ogre - Piling On, Grab
5 Ogre - Guard
6 Ogre - Guard

and a couple of Snots 1 with Diving Tackle and one with Dirty Player.

I am thinking about giving the #1 Ogre with Block Break Tackle aswell to have him as a nice safety secure Blitzer or giving him Guard aswell for more overall power

Should i give the Ogre #2 a skill (most likely Break Tackle aswell) or +1 MA or +1AV (dont like +AV)

Movement 7 sounds nice but he wont get any other skills most likely for a long time i think. else a 2nd MA6 Break Tackle Ogre doesnt sound bad either

open for any suggestions

Ogre 1: Piling on, later stand firm, or if you really want to - guard. With block&piling on he'll be your #1 blitzer on offence.

Ogre 2: Take the MA. You already have one MA6 break tackle. Carrying the ball ahead 7 squares with one bonehead roll is priceless + you can always hand off to the MA6 break tackle if things get hairy. If you ever double with this guy go sure hands.

By far the biggest weaknesses of the ogres are movement (&snotling) related.

If you want a backfield safety, then imo you need to have break tackle / tackle or break tackle / wrestle. Block does not help you there (mostly ballcarriers have either block, dodge, or both).

On the line/blitzing 0-skill linemen Block is priceless on the other hand.

Break Tackle, for sure. And Guard on the Blocker will make him a great nose tackle (center LOS).

Break Tackle & +MA for me. Speed is really useful - and getting +MA on your fastest player is often the best option.

Back in the old days, I played in a league with a Human team that had a MA7/Block/BT Ogre. He was a real killer, like a 5th Blitzer, only with ST5, MB and BT.

Do NOT take Piling-on on your Ogre with Block. That only begs your opponent to foul him out of the game. But maybe I'm biased as I'm not a fan of PO because I think you want to have your ogres standing up, especially a good player as that. I would go for Break Tackle on Ogre nr 1 and MA+ on the other one. A 7 MA ogre is great as it makes it hard for any team to outrun you.

I think your Ogre lineup looks great btw, played the team a long time?

On ogre 1 definitely break tackle. You want that block where it needs to be, not pinned by linemen.
On ogre 2 I would also take the second MA increase. Just look at this - a 7 5 2 9 stat line is pretty damn good! And when break tackle comes (like you said, it could take a while but hey!) he'll be everywhere!

So how many games you played with this team? I'm just starting an ogre team myself for a fixed schedule league and I'm looking forward to the ogre development! Bring on the doubles!

Ok i decided on break tackle for#1 an +1MA for #2.

And about my team i think it is now 10 games old. But they won only 2 so far ( one of them a concussion) cause i promised myself not to make a TD with a snot except with a OTT when there is no other choice

I think you mean a concession. A concussion is when you've been hit on the head hard, a concession is when you give up.

I am considering taking Ogres into a New league filled with new players. (Other option is Chaos)

We all know what to give Snotlings no matter what you roll. Some priorities are debate-able but it is still a small desireable group to choose from.

We all know what to give Ogres on doubles. Again, generally speaking.

But what would you give developed Ogres if you were unlucky enough not to roll doubles/stat increases?

1. Break Tackle, Guard, Multi-Block, Grab
2. Break Tackle, Guard, Multi-Block, Grab
3. Break Tackle, Guard, Strong Arm, ??
4. Break Tackle, Guard, Juggernaut, ??
5. Break Tackle, Guard, Juggernaut, ??
6. Break Tackle, Guard, Piling On, ??

This is how I would develop them considering how I think I will play with them. The skills are not neccesarily in the order I will give them. But am I on the right track? How would you further develop the "?"'s

I tend to play quite competitively and so I am trying to take a team I shouldn't take seriously.

Also this league allows you to designate your own MVP's :D

You don't need BT on them all. A more standard build would be to make four of them cagers/LoSers, getting Stand Firm in preference to Break Tackle. Or three and three. And six Guards is a bit OTT too. Three should be enough. You'd do as well with three Grabs.

Oh, and a handy tip learned through experience: don't bother planning more than three skills for players. The odds of getting even those three are tiny. The player will die, or get stats/doubles, or have to pick a particular skill because of the next opponent, or have their skill path made redundant because some other player was forced into due to one of the previous factors. You'd be better off describing six roles (perhaps blocker1, blocker2, blitzer, thrower, safety, utility), then after each game, figure out which player is currently filling each role. With that information you can dynamically decide which is the best next skill of the player and team.

What skills would you give to the different ogres. Blocker1 would get which skills and blitzer would get this.

Blockers would get Guard, Stand Firm, Grab, Block on doubles.
Blitzers and Safeties would get Break Tackle first, then anything from Blockers. Blitzers might take Tackle before Block, but only if you already have two Block on your team.
Throwers would get Strong Arm, with Sure Hands on doubles.
Utilities fill any gaps in your skill set. You need at least three Break Tackle, but if you've lucked out and got lots of Block on your first skill rolls with several Ogres, then a Utility will take Break Tackle to make up for the lack in your team.

Guard is always a good choice. If one Ogre gets Block on his first skill, he'd be a prime candidate to give Piling On to for his second.. unless he gets doubles again, in which case he's a ball carrier and takes Sure Hands.
