Chaos Pact - should I restart or soldier on?

My club runs a fixed schedule BB league and a separate "open" division that's used to build teams up ready to join the league. Coaches are allowed to restart any friendly team, losing all SPP and cash earned to date (of course).

Khorne Beefcakes (my Chaos Pact team) played their first friendly yesterday and got rather clobbered by a group of Chaos bullies, leaving me with 8 Marauders, a goblin and a chaos troll for their next game - and that's only thanks to my having induced a wandering Apo, who saved a T16 RIP on a marauder. As it is, a marauder and a chaos ogre (with -MA) will miss the nest game. The only SPP we earned was the MVP (on a Marauder) and our winnings were 50,000gp.

Given that the new team value is a meagre 810,000gp and that we're allowed to restart a team at any time I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to recover this side or start again.

You don't want to start clobbering stat minuses on the first game, if you really get free restart then go for it. I would start with a diff lineup as well, but meh that's just me. Finally, ogre with -MA is a real hindrance.

I'd go with 8 marauders, ogre + troll + dark elf, 3 rerolls & an apo. Leaves you with 20k in the bank, but that's ok. The dark elf eases up your ball play & you can build it up in a thousand different ways that don't waste his spp-hogging & he can always quickpass the ball to the marauders if you happen to win the bashing game. Finally he catches comps with 2+ without investing in extra arms. He's simply the best player in the starting list.

Sounds like you either got diceraped really bad, or there was a big difference in player or coaching skills, as my experience against chaos teams has never been that bloody given their high cost low skill players.

soldier on, it will improve your game and give the team character ;]

restarting won't give you much benefit either, only an ogre with 1 more movement after 1 game

I'd echo the different starting lineup as well

I never start teams with an apoth either, rerolls double in price after the start and pact's are expensive

also think the mino is the most useful big guy

Dice were rather unfriendly, but given what my all 'fling team did to the chaos team in an earlier match-up I can't complain. :lol:

FWIW the team in question are the Carroburg Panzers. They didn't have the +AG Beastman or Block on the warriors until after we played so it was TV 1.21m v my rookie TV 1.0m so I took an extra reroll and - thankfully - a second Apo as my inducements.

I guess it does come down to a matter of "honour" and whether you can live with yourself doing that. What would matter to me personally would be how often do you get to play. If you don't get to play that often or only have a set number of games before entering the league, then I'd restart instead of rebuilding. You have a lot of stuff to buy and losing a marauder right at the start sets you back doing that. Additionally, as others pointed out, maybe the starting lineup could have been more optimal too (I at least can see the benefit of having the elf to help in skilling up the marauders that get MVP's or cas+TD). The next game will be tough if you continue with this team. I'd restart myself.

That Ogre is damaged goods and I'd look to replace him down the line unless he gets Block or something else amazing.

I'd probably take the chance to restart, with another line-up.
I'd go for 3 big guys, because that would be one of the prime reasons for me to play this team.

I dont have the whole team-stats here, but 3 BG,a gobbo and a skaven + 3 RRs is/was possible.
Might not be the most "effective" set-up, but 3 BGs is fun I think. And fun is the way this team should be played. All IMHO of course... :)

I would second (third?) Carnis starting lineup though I took the 4th reroll and bought the apo after two games.

Same here : once you restart a team, it doesn't have the same flavor anymore.
Besides, the team isn't really damaged yet.

Now if you still want to restart, I' d take Storch lineup

I'd restart (with a different roster, but that's up to you). After only one game, it's not going to hurt, whereas if you decide you need to rstart after 4-5 games...

I'd say restart - losing a point of MA on an Ogre is no fun.

I'd try to get a 4th Re-roll, too. I am not speaking from any experience here, but considering the general lack of skills and all those Negatraits (not that there's much you can do about them, but it means your best blockers will often act later in a turn), as well as their high cost, I'd try to have as many as possible from the get-go.

If I were to start with a Chaos Pact team, I'd go with an Ogre, a Troll, a Dark Elf, 8 Marauders and 4 Re-rolls.
The Elf is a target, of course, so not having an apo might hurt, but I think it's doable.

Thanks for the advice, chaps.

I'm leaning towards rebuilding them. We'll have at least 140,000 in inducements for the next game (plus an expendable journeyman for LoS duty) and as long as I don't lose anyone else or roll a 1 for winnings there'll be enough cash in the bank to add the elf for Game #3. If I can get an opponent without much Block/Guard/ST4 we may just survive long enough to be viable again.

And besides that... what better way to figure if the inducement system is working for you :)

Ogre, Troll, Mino, 7xMarauders, Goblin, 3xRRs.

Lets just say the chaos gods granted your marauder his life back and healed your ogre in exchange for your MVP and winnings

For me there would be no fun in restarting. The team will have more soul if you don't simply abandon it when the going gets tough.
And it's always fun to have a lot of inducements. In fact, I prefer to play as the underdog thanks to all those goody inducements :D

EDIT: Though I might fire that ogre if I were you :)
