Skills for Dwarfs in a 1M Tournament

Hi all

I'm planning on going to a 1 million LRB5 tournament in the next few months.

For a starting line up I was thinking of having:-

2 Runners
2 Blitzers
1 Troll Slayer
6 Blocker
4 Re-rolls
1 Fan Factor

I have come up with 3 plans for skills.

Option 1:-

Runner 1 - Block
Blocker 1 - Guard
Blitzer 1 or Runner 2- Strip Ball
Troll Slayer - Mighty Blow
Blocker 2 - Guard

This is just the main basic skills I would take on a Dwarf team in a league.

Option 2:-

Runner 1 - Block
Blocker 1 - Stand Firm
Blocker 2 - Stand Firm
Blitzer 1 - Strip Ball
Blitzer 2 - Strip Ball

I thought about Stand Firm because in the last 3 Tournaments I have been to I have played 6 Norse teams, 2 Chaos Teams with minotaurs and a few teams that took Frenzy and an upgrade, with these to players with stand firm I can anchor the flanks of my defence with players that won't move.

Option 3:-

Blocker 1 and 2 - Mighty Blow
Blitzer 1 and 2 Mighty Blow
Troll slayer - Mighty Blow

Basically KILL KILL KILL and KILL then I might pick up the ball and try and score!!!

Option 4:-

Blocker 1, 2 and 3 - Guard
Blitzer 1 and 2 - Guard

Boring but try and 2 dice that!!

So any thoughts? Any better ideas? Thanks for any input

It's rare that your dwarf with Strip Ball is in a position to use it, though having two might help.. more general-purpose dwarven tourney skills might be Kick-off Return, Grab or maybe Juggernaut on a Trollslayer.

Option X

Drop a reroll to get that 2nd troll slayer - and give both troll slayers mighty blow, both blitzers guard and a runner block or kick off return.

Ture about strip ball, would grab be that good without other skills on the players?

I can't have a second slayer as I only have 1 GW Slayer model and the tournament rules say all models must be GW. But other than that I do like your skill choice, what oder would you give the skills in?

I favour Block on st least one runner and then Guard on the Blitzers then Blockers if you still have skills left.

That's what I would do, although maybe I'd sneak in MB on Troll SLayer somewhere if a lot of elves are about.

I'd take KoR first, then MB, then the guard on the blitzers, then the block on the other runner or guard on a longbeard.

Option 4 - all Guard is the optimal choice.

Your runner will not need Block in most of your games. He shouldn't be getting blocked. But if you have 5 Guard and he does get blocked then the extra Guard will be of more protection anyway.

Strip Ball marginal, and Dwarfs don't have thr speed or AG to make use of it.

MB is marginal IMO in tournaments as a bought skill. Guard helps with getting CAS too.

Kickoff Return is helpful, but it isn't a skill of comparable value to Guard.

The best thing about Guard is that the more you have, the better each one is. It's all about synergy. All those Guards overlap and complement each other. 2 Guards can be avoided. 5 can't.

I like your thinking

Hi All

We'll the small little tournament I went to was the Blood Bowl GT and I happy to say I finished 26th with 3 Wins and 3 Draws.

I went with Block on a Runner, Guard on 2 Blitzers and Guard on 2 Blockers.

I'm not sure Block was worth it, but i Achieved my goals for the weekend of do better than last year (2 Wind, 2 Draws and 2 Loses with Amazons) and not to lose a game!!

I would just like to thank everyone for the advice.

Thanks Blood Bowl Nut :D

Agreed.

But with MA6 and Block he has other uses beyond ball carrying.
