Help me make an Orc team for a 1150k resurrection tournament

I’m playing in a 1150k resurrection tournament in a couple of months and I’m still tossing up what to take in my side. Last time I played with Orcs with the team listed below and managed to get lucky and win the tournament:

4 x Blitzers (2 x Stand Firm, 1 x Tackle, 1 x Frenzy) - 400k
4 x Black Orc Blockers (2 x Block, 2 x Guard) - 400k
1 x Thrower with Leader - 90k
1 x Goblin with Diving Tackle - 60k
1 x Lineorc (no skills) - 50k
1 x Troll with Guard - 130k

2 x Rerolls - 120k

Total - 1250k

This time around the rules for teams are a little different. The team I took last year is no longer valid under the new rules so I’ll have to change my line-up. These are the rules for the tournament:

Coaches have 1,150,000 to spend on their teams. This includes players, rerolls and inducements. The following conditions apply:

- All gold must be spent
- Each team must have a minimum of 11 players (including stars)
- Inducements may be purchased as per page 49 and 50 of the rulebook with an exception of 1 star player per team, no wizards, 50k bribes for goblin and underworld teams and 50k Halfling chefs for Halfling teams.
- One of the following skill sets is to be distributed to the team. Each player can only receive 1 skill/upgrade and star players cannot be upgraded:
  • Skill Set 1 – 4 x Normal Skills, 2 x Doubles
    Skill Set 2 – 4 x Normal Skills, 1 x Double, 1 x +MA OR +AV
    Skill Set 3 – 5 x Normal Skills, 1 x +AG
    Skill Set 4 – 4 x Normal Skills, 1 x +ST
At the moment I am leaning towards the following line-up:

4 x Blitzers (2 x Stand Firm, 1 x Frenzy, 1 x Dodge) - 320k
4 x Black Orc Blockers - 320k
1 x Thrower - 70k
2 x Goblin (1 x Diving Tackle) - 80k
1 x Troll with Block - 110k
Ugroth Bolgrot – 70k

3 x Rerolls - 180k

Total - 1150k

However there are a few other options I am considering.

1. Replace Stand Firm with Guard on 2 Blitzers
2. Replace Block with Guard on the Troll
3. Replace Dodge with +MA or some other double on the Blitzer

For those of you wondering why I have used one of the skills on a Diving Tackle Goblin, he proved to be very useful in the previous tournament which I won (although the tournament rules for teams were different last year compared to this year). As a result I am extremely hesitant to take him out of the line-up.

The 2 Stand Firm Blitzers were also extremely important to my line-up last time around. They were placed in the wide zone when setting up on defence and made it very difficult for my opponents to break through my line in the turn after a kick-off. As a result I was able to slow my opponents down and put pressure on the ball carrier. However, last time around I had 11 skills on my team. This time around I am only allowed 6 skills at the very most (and less if I take +AG or +ST). With that in mind I am thinking that swapping out Stand Firm for a couple of Guard. Without that I will have no Guard on the team at all.

The Troll I am quite unsure about. Last time I played he had Guard and I tried to use him as little as possible. If I didn’t do anything with him there was no chance he would fail a Really Stupid roll. By taking Block I am forcing myself to be a bit more active with him. I’m not sure if giving him Guard and taking a Double skill on one of the Blitzers might be a better idea instead.

Thoughts?

I've just attended a tournament and used your skill set 2, my line up was:

1 x Thrower
2 x Black Orc with Guard
2 x Black Orc
1 x Troll with Block
1 x Blitzer
1 x Blitzer with Mighty Blow
1 x Blitzer with Tackle
1 x Blitzer with +1MV
1 x Linemen
1 x Goblin
3 x RR + 1FF

That line-up is 110k so you could use the FF + spare 50K for another RR. Looking back at the event Mighty Blow was a waste, partly due to my dice rolls, I would opt for Frenzy on the guy instead.

Hope this helps :D

I'd play:

Troll
4x Black Orc (1x Block & 3x Guard)
4x Blitzer (1x Frenzy & 1x AG4)
1x Thrower
1x Lineman
1x Goblin
--
3x RR
1x Fan Factor
1x Apothecary

Good luck 8)

Man, with +Ag available... those elven blokes must've creamed their britches!

Orc Thrower gets +Ag (what a deal!)
4 Blorc & Troll getting block would be highly useful

Trading a block skill for one/more Tackle/Diving Tackle might be necessary to deal with the Ag5 pointy-eared-pooftah the woodie coaches will bring....

Orc chainsaw is definitely the best in the game....

They use the same ruleset at WaterBowl in the Uk (although it is TV110).

I took:

4 Guarding BOBs
Block Troll
Block Thrower
4 Blitzers
3 Linos
3 rerolls

Out of interest, how did all of you fare in your respective tournaments?

In hindsight would you have changed your line-ups at all?

At TR115 do yourself a favour and take Wood Elves.

I came 13 out of 30 with my Orcs, though they couldn't hit their way out of a wet paper bag all tournament. Which was why I would've taken Frenzy on the Blitzer instead of Mighty Blow, the +MV was very, very useful and apart from that one skill swap, I wouldn't change the line-up.

Not gonna happen. I won the inaugural tournament last year with Orcs (out of 24 players) so I want to go back again this year and see if it was just a fluke or if I might actually have half an idea on how to play this game! :D

I think you're just joking, but I'll answer this as a serious comment anyway.

If you read the opening post you will see that the rules have changed slightly this year. As such my previous line-up isn't valid anymore. Believe me, I'd love to just play with the same line-up again. It would make life a lot easier for me! :)

To build offense
Thrower with +AG
2x Blitzer with Stand Firm
Troll with Guard
Blitzer with Frenzy
BOB with Block or Guard, or another Blitzer with Frenzy

If you like the "Half-Inverted" defense,
Blitzer with Side Step (corner 1)
Blitzer with Dodge (corner 2)
Blitzer with Guard or Tackle (WZ guard 2)
Blitzer with Frenzy or Grab (WZ guard 1)
Troll with Guard (nose)
BOB with Block or Stand Firm (blitz-absorber inside of WZ 2)

Aussie tournies are mostly low alcohol events :( CanCon was a dry event last year :(

At least Euc Bowl is held in a club :)
