Orc Blitzer Skill Ups

Post by Master Wang »

Sorry for the rookie questions, but my only experience with Orcs is tabletop team that has doubles and stat increases all over it. I'm looking to keep this fairly pure bash, as I want the practice with that style of play.

BLZ Block; Guard; Normal Skill
BLZ Block; Guard
BLZ Block; Normal Skill
BLZ Block
BOB Block
BOB
BOB
BOB Block
THR Sure Hands; Pass; Block
LM
LM

3RR
FF?
170K

For the Blitzer with Guard - Stand Firm, Tackle or Mighty Blow? If the latter, I'll start giving it to everyone. If Stand Firm I guess I want to get it on the other guard Blitzer ASAP to shut down the other widezone.

For the Blitzer without - Guard or Tackle?

Any argument on either for slightly more exotic skills like Grab or Frenzy?

Your need for tackle depends on the opponent's your most likely to face - if they have lots of dodge, then tackle would be more important. If your league tends more towards more bashy teams, then tackle is wasted.

Guard is ALWAYS good. I agree that a couple of orcs with stand firm is good - but I would argue that they go best on Black Orcs as their 2nd skill. Block/Stand Firm Black Orcs on the wings of the defense make it really tough for opponents to go around...this forces them to the middle of the field, which is typically right where you want them.

So short answer, for your 2 missing skills, I'd go Mighty Blow or Tackle on the first blitzer (depending on how much dodge you tend to face), and Guard on the second.

MB, and tackle if it's REALLY needed. I'd go for frenzy, myself. You already have a guard blitzer to team it with.

So, guard guy gets MB, skill-up would be frenzy (purely my own choice here).

Give one frenzy for sure. Its bashy, fun and useful (love crowd surfing). For the other go with tackle, you need somtheing to help you take down blodgers.

Blitzer with Guard, I would suggest StandFirm as he will allow you to retain field position and help set up....

Blitzer without - Frenzy.

Too often I have seen a team try to set up next turns chain push into the crowd only for a vital guard piece (or random assist) get pushed out of place before they can get it rolling.

Stand Firm will allow you to make the wide zones a scary place when teamed with the Frenzy guy. Sort of like a Dwarf double team (Longbeard/Trollslayer)

He can also act as a pivot on the cage corner to roll around.

Lovely piece both on offense and D!

Why thankyou!

I saw you had posted and braced myself to read about Strong Safeties versus Defensive Tackles with an interesting take on the Front 7...

I am just starting to see the team structure in that way myself.

The argument for Stand Firm on the Guard blitzer and Frenzy on the other, then pairing them on one wing seems pretty strong. I guess Tackle can wait. I'll be facing all kinds of opponents so I will need it eventually.

The fourth blitzer is close to skilling up, too. Any recommendations?

Or take Stand Firm first on that side... you'll be immune to your own medicine! Or Tackle or Grab... that way if he gets doubles on #2, he can get Side Step, generally superior.

When Guard/SF guy goes up again, give him Grab! Frenzy guy should have/be near SF by then, and you'll have a really nasty little processing plant. The Guard pushes the opponent to the corner, and the corner pushes him out of bounds.

Quick update:

After a horrible game where I threw away a 1-0 lead and a 2 man advantage against Lizzies to end in a 2-2 draw, I skilled the other Blitzer and took Tackle. There are quite a few developing teams now with Dodge, so decided it was time to invest in some anti-elf skills. Mighty Blow next I think barring doubles.
