I was going to play my "original" Chaos Dwarf side, The Spikeheads, in the Greenstone Cup (New Zealand's premier tourney) later this month. I felt I had to, as I have not played them for years, during which time their NAF ranking has fallen from 1st to 100th...
However, they are one of 3 CD teams entered so far (the tourney is not large - 20 players last year), so in the interests of balance, I am more likely to take another team. One of the possiblilties is The Speedos, my Orc "lite" concept team, which I have written about in the league tactics sub-forum. The team has no Black Orcs, no Troll, and does not take Mighty Blow. I am greatly enjoying playing them in our open league.
The tourney rules are TV 125, each player may take one normal skill, costing 2 points of TV, Stars and Wizards are not allowed, but other inducements are. My initial thoughts on a tourney roster are:
4 Blitzers (all with Guard)
2 Throwers (1 with Leader, 1 with Kick-off Return)
4 Lineorcs (3 with Wrestle, 1 with Kick)
3 Gobbos (2 with Sidestep, 1 with nothing)
3 Re-rolls
Apothecary
The side is quite resourceful, being resilient, rich in skills and re-rolls, and while not fast, at least "not slow". Treating the unskilled Gobbo as a last reserve, the team would field 11 skilled players on both offense and defense (the Kicker would sit out on offense, while the KoR Thrower would sit out on defense). As a variant against hitty teams, both Throwers could take the field on offense, meaning only one Gobbo on the field (who would be sheltered from attack on turn 1). I like Wrestle in tourneys, since it is rarely wasted (unlike Tackle).
What do you think?
